Pepperbird Pepper Grinder
Reviewed by

The Pepper Bird is a registered, Danish quality pepper grinder made out of mahogany, ash, maple, and walnut, first produced in the late 1950s. Since then, the Pepper Bird has been the favorite object of many guests around the dining table. Spring Copenhagen relaunched the Pepper Bird in the fall of 2015 in cooperation with the Tonn-P family. The relaunch marked their wish to inspire and kickstart a whole universe of different and functional designs of high quality – designed by Tonn-P in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

The grinding mechanism of the Pepper Bird is the Danish-patented Tucan Pepper Grinder.

The Pepper Bird is designed by Sven Erik Tonn-Petersen (1925-2004). His idea with the Pepper Bird was to create a simple and recognizable everyday design icon, which is both functional and serves as a decoration to any dining table. The toucan as inspiration Tonn-P had great “appetite for life” and lived a festive, adventurous life filled with humor and joy.

Tonn-P was self-taught and had a burning desire to create products with perfect mode of expression and harmonic, functional designs. It was exactly the wish for functional artistic design, the appetizing qualities of pepper, as well as the nickname of the toucan, which inspired Tonn-P to create the Pepper Bird.
