Welp, here's a bunch more stuff. That pretty much exhausts my useful Amazon purchasing history, the rest being media (books, music, movies, TV shows), health 'n' beauty type stuff that wouldn't be applicable to 99% of other folks, or items that are some combination of "not listed anymore" and "shit I wouldn't recommend."

You'd better invest in some record outer sleeves.

Since you don't seem to be using those, this is a good time to suggest that you also invest in antistatic inner sleeves.

u/theredtelephone · 6 pointsr/vinyl

If you want to preserve the covers, then yes, you should use plastic sleeves.

I've ordered [these] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RA7IZS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) outer sleeves.

I don't know about deals, but I highly recommend the ones from Sleeve City.

The ones I linked are the thickest ones, but there are a couple of other options as well. Watch the little video about the differences. I like them because the fit both single and double LPs, seem durable, and the plastic doesn't fog.

They are also on Amazon for a few more dollars. I haven't ordered directly from Sleeve City, so you can calculate whether it's worth it depending on shipping or if you have prime.

I've also used these, and while overall they're fine and also fit double LPs, I don't like them as much because I've split some sides trying to get the records in.

https://www.amazon.com/100-Record-Outer-Sleeves-Polyethylene/dp/B000RA7IZS something like that, don't have the exact sames ones because they were a gift. Just Google vinyl plastic sleeves or something like that, they are very cheap.

u/chemman14 · 3 pointsr/VinylMePlease

Buy these, problem solved.

They also have the added benefit of making it much easier to slide records in and out of the shelf.

For cards - clear bondage tape. It's the same plastic cling film as the commercial product Hugo's Amazing Tape, but cheaper.

For box bands / enclosures - non-latex bands. Won't deteriorate like rubber, shouldn't mar or discolor boxes over time.

For shelf boxes of certain dimensions and smaller (e.g. alea bookshelf, or Power Grid size longboxes), 12" record sleeves provide a barrier to shelfwear, and can be gusseted and taped to conform and protect the box.

Vinyl inside of anti-static sleeve like these - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055J0CRC/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Inside of an outer sleeve like these - http://www.amazon.com/100-Record-Outer-Sleeves-Polyethylene/dp/B000RA7IZS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1383229064&sr=1-1&keywords=vinyl+sleeve

Cut a 12 inch square piece of cardboard to go behind the vinyl inner sleeve but still inside the outer sleeve.

That's what i do anyway. Keeps it's shape and fits right in with the rest on the shelf.

u/mudo2000 · 3 pointsr/vinyl

That's a great start to your collection, glad you're onboard.

There's a condition called shelfwear that will cause your records to develop a circular pattern on the sleeve if you don't add any protection. It's especially visible on sleeves that are black or white. Invest in some sleeve protectors to keep your records looking nice and new.

u/radddchaddd · 3 pointsr/vinyl

A record shop I frequent uses these, which are exceptionally sturdy and accommodate most gatefolds with no issue.

For singles, I use these. They are not as sturdy but accomodate singles just fine.

u/Sushiimiii · 3 pointsr/vinyl

I have purchased these several times. I like them a lot and they have been the most consistent dimension wise.

u/CatZach · 3 pointsr/vinyl

You're correct! There are both inner and outer sleeves. The outer sleeve protects the record jacket itself, and the inner sleeves protect the record from damage while it sits inside the jacket. Here are examples of each found on Amazon:

Inner Sleeves: https://www.amazon.com/Mobile-Fidelity-Record-Inner-Sleeves/dp/B001LQSFKY

Outer Sleeves: https://www.amazon.com/100-Record-Outer-Sleeves-Polyethylene/dp/B000RA7IZS/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1487517064&sr=1-2&keywords=outer+sleeves

There are plenty of threads on this sub with discussion about this if you need more information about protecting the records! I'm really sorry about your loss and I think it's great your trying to preserve his valuables.

These are the ones I use - just for the stuff that’s worth $40+ or was super difficult to find. They’re roomy for larger gate folds, but serviceable and protect the vinyl we’ll.

u/GothamCountySheriff · 2 pointsr/vinyl

Poly sleeves to protect the album cover from dirt, bumps and ringwear and generally keep your covers looking fresh and new.

I have been getting these 3.0 mil thick sleeves, but the last batch I ordered was really snug for gatefolds and double+ albums (fine for single LPs):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RA7IZS

I've used these as well and they're fine. They're 2.5 mil. You wouldn't think that the 0.5 mil would make that much of a difference, but the 3.0 mil do feel more substantial. In all honesty, there's probably no functional difference between the two. These seem to hold double LP's and gatefolds just fine:

Now the important question comes: Opening at the top or the side?

u/IHeartThe80s · 2 pointsr/vinyl

Any shop dealing in used product might carry them. Or you can find them online, though you'll probably have to buy quite a few...

I second, here is the pack I ordered, they work damn well and are pretty cheap considering I ordered 100.

u/Zodsayskneel · 2 pointsr/vinyl

I use those MFSL inner sleeves too. On everything. I've probably purchased 5 or 6 packages of them by now.

For outer sleeves I was using these, but they're a little too small to comfortably fit larger 2LP gatefolds. Just this past week I got a package of these because the only negative complaint was that they're slippery, which is perfect for me because shelf space is getting tight and it's hard to pull out just one record at a time. They're a little thinner, 2.5mil vs 3.0 mil, but it's totally fine. It feels more like putting a comic book in a protective case rather than putting my leftovers in a freezer bag.

u/BiggieAndTheMets · 2 pointsr/vinyl

I don't know if you're an amazon prime member, but if you are, you can get free shipping on these bags or these bags. The 500 count package wasn't there when I ordered bags last fall, which I'm annoyed about, since I've bought 4 packs of the 100ct and could've saved $$.

u/SausRandir · 2 pointsr/vinyl

These are the ones I use. I'm on my second pack now with no complaints.

u/drew1492 · 2 pointsr/vinyl

I've been quite happy with these!

u/dallasdude · 2 pointsr/vinyl

I've bought the BCW's, I've bought from Sleeve City, I've bought the mylar flapped covers... skip all those and get these 3 mil polys from Square through Amazon. I've probably bought 1,000 of them. Best I have hands down for everything but the most gigantic LP jackets.

http://www.amazon.com/100-Record-Outer-Sleeves-Polyethylene/dp/B000RA7IZS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414126547&sr=8-2&keywords=record+sleeves

u/thenightsgambit · 2 pointsr/VGMvinyl

I’ve got an entire ritual! First I place the record in a poly outer sleeve and then remove the sticker from the original shrink wrap and fix it to the outer sleeve, wherever it was positioned originally.

Sometimes stickers have a hard time coming off smoothly without tearing; in this case use a hairdryer on the sticker for a few seconds and it should peel off easy :)

u/hipster_kitten · 1 pointr/vinyl

I have been happy with [these] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RA7IZS/ref=oh_details_o01_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I was even able to jam my copy of Past is Prologue in there and its a gatefold made of very thick cardboard.

u/dfa79 · 1 pointr/vinyl

you got me worried now!

how can you tell they are PVC sleeves from the picture?

Are PVC different from polyethylene and polypro/polyester?

I use http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RA7IZS/ref=pe_385040_30332190_pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 and http://www.sleevecityusa.com/ultimate-outer-2-5-pack-of-50-p/9224.htm

u/brandoncampbell · 1 pointr/vinyl

I have these and couldn't be more happy

u/Blunted_astronaut · 1 pointr/hiphopvinyl

I would get a polyurethane sleeve. You can get a better deal than this but its just an example.

u/naptown_ant · 1 pointr/hiphopvinyl

I use these and would recommend them... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RA7IZS

Buy these . I have three cats and they've never scratched a sleeve.

u/Iswitt · 1 pointr/twinpeaks

I think you may be doing something wrong. I've owned my copy since it came out and I use it regularly and it looks nothing like that.

If you're not doing so already, you should store your records in protective sleeves (doesn't have to be this specific kind, just something like that). This will protect the record sleeve during storage.

Store your records so they stand side by side and not stacked. They should look like this on your shelf/in your crate: |||||||||

Don't smoke, let small children/pets mess with them, etc.

Also, to clear debris and static from the vinyl itself before playing, I highly recommend Gruv Glide.
