Consider reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It's about someone who attempts to save JFK when he discovers a way to go back in time.

Here are two of my favorites. both are great reads.
Replay by Ken Grimwood is kinda like Groundhog Day writ large. It's about a guy who relives the 60s, 70s, and 80s over and over again.
11/22/63 by Stephen King is about a guy who finds a portal that takes him from the present to 1958. He decides to live for a few years in the past and try to prevent the JFK assassination.
And if you like the idea of a dinosaur time-travel thriller, look up my book and see if it interests you.

Stephen King’s "11/22/63" is about revisiting and revising the past. It's quite long but has similar conundrums as LiS. Check it out:

Earlier this summer, I read Stephen King's [11/22/63] (http://www.amazon.com/11-22-63-A-Novel/dp/1451627297/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376108688&sr=8-1&keywords=11%2F22%2F63). It's 800+ pages but I read it in about five days because I simply could not put it down.
>Judging by the replies I should def read this haha
You really should, it's a journey to say the least.
Also, for the historical fiction standpoint, check out King's 11/22/63. The history nerd in me got some serious tingles when you combine Stephen King, the Kennedy assassination, and time travel.
I've just noticed there are two paperbacks listed. The other one is 7.6" x 5" which is close to the B Format size, and so probably a mass market paperback. As robynrose notes, the trade paperback size book came out earlier (November, 2011) than the smaller format edition (July, 2012).
Of course, this depends on your definition of non-adult. I doubt there is much today's teen would find 'dirty' given contemporary media; but an early reader (6-12) is likely to have their eyes opened.
best book on the subject is Stephen King's 11/22/63 go damn good! https://www.amazon.com/11-22-63-Stephen-King/dp/1451627297/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1542496452&sr=8-6&keywords=stephen+king+books
