No, not thick. The stuff I've used for ages now is about 1/4" wide, super thin (almost like a film) and sticks to just about anything. I've had the roll for a long time, not sure of the brand (no markings) but it looks very similar to this... https://amzn.com/B00L8RGH4W

It may very likely be scrapbooking tape, but the stuff is strong and fairly easy to work with. (great for car badges and trim pieces as well). You want something thin to prevent adding bulkiness, and the foam style tape tends to come apart after a while.

As far as residue, there is very little if any, maybe a slightly "tacky" feel after removing it, but is easily cleaned with rubbing alcohol. In my rather extensive experience with this type of tape, I've also never had any kind of damage (paint removal, staining, discoloration, etc) over time, or after removal.

As far as other methods of attachment, I haven't seen anything (I think there are like 4 or 5 of us dinking around with the Whiteout, lol) out there. My goal was to eliminate the screws. I tried magnets, and while that worked, the panels are only 2-2.7mm thick which really limits your options as far as magnets, and even with n52 neodymium, I never felt that they were quite secure enough (not pocket safe at least). As far as clips or something similar, there isn't really anywhere to clip them, and with the limited amount of space in the frame already, I'm not sure how feasible that would be. It is something that I'll consider though, maybe do a little experimenting.

I'd love to get my hands on some stab wood panels, so if/when you do that, I'd be interested in a set. Were you going to just attach the panels directly to the frame, or would they be inlay style, inset into a panel? I've been toying with the idea of using the "window panel" part as a frame for something similar, but would love to know what you're thinking.
