I think this may be what your looking for:

For the 3DS Monster Hunter games, there is this and this. They make 4 simple changes to the control layout:
-Camera control on the shoulder under the left (!) forefinger
-Inventory button accessible by left middle/ring fingers
-Enlarged run button on right shoulder
-Big and chunky, so it's easy to hold for hours upon hours
I have a better, easier time controlling Monster Hunter with this thing than with the new game and a PS4 controller. It takes the one thing everybody used to complain about with the series, the controls, and makes it effortless.
Also, I wish someone made a one-handed PS4 controller for traditional RPG's. There used to be one for PS1, and it was cool.
I had that. I tried 3 grips and this one worked best for me. Life changing, I can play for hours on a plane with no discomfort.
I'd recommend abandoning the CPP for this if if fits your model: https://www.amazon.com/3DS-Monster-Hunter-Extended-slide-Nintendo/dp/B00LVRXS8C
The Hori Grip is made specifically for monster hunter and is amazing. The second circle pad is on the left side and you control it with your left index finger which takes some getting used to but it allows you to cycle through items, sprint, and move the camera simultaneously which is only possible with that grip.
this thing Literally unplayable without it.

Hoping they simply drop to a better price. When the MH3U themed grips were first being imported, they were around the same high price, but are about $30 now. Those still seem like a good option for original 3DS owners, although I think the CPP is way better.
Which version of 3ds do you have? If you have an original version of the 3ds or 3ds XL I would suggest the claw pad pro I linked to. It puts an additional Circle pad a little below the L button on the system. Gives you have claw feelings and is way more comfortable at the same time.
I honestly have considered buying an OG 3DS again so I can use it with my American release monster hunter games.Though due to time since release they are getting a bit more spendy.... but it is amazing.
edit: Also could try just the normal Circle Pad Pro. 3DS XL OG 3DS

The camera stick is on the top left instead of the right, so you can move, move camera, and attack at the same time. Similar to clawing with the PSP games.
I got one of these. It's a CPP made by Hori that moves the second pad to your left pointer finger. It's similar to the claw, but I like this even better.

They won't ship these overseas, so you'd have to use a forwarder like Tenso. Play-Asia though....
Here it is on amazon US for $35 I order one and says should be here before feb

Yeah, that's the thing - I already have the basic 3DS XL and other games for it, so justifying the expense of a newer unit is a little rough. Only other game that would drive me to pick up the new hardware would be a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles, since it's only compatible with the new hardware. I might consider going for a New 2DS XL, seeing as how it's about $50 cheaper, but even then it's a bit of a reach for just two games. I think I'm probably going to pull the trigger (no pun intended) on the Hori grip that's designed for the game and fits my older unit, along with a copy of 4U.
i would go with NEW 2DS XL, its better to have a grip on the game whether then to awkwardly hold the 3DS XL w/Circle Pad Pro, its giant and annoying. there are grips out there that you can use on the normal 3DS XLs or normal 3DS' that has a built in circle pad on them for ease of camera use.

not to mention that on the new 2ds xl, they have more buttons
I got this just for MH4. big fan. a little awkward to get used to, but i can move without taking my thumb off the action buttons.

There's also different grips for the New 3DS XL (and a few for the New 3DS). Take a look at those grips and see what may work for you.
I use the Cyber Gadget N3DSXL Grip V2 for my MH4U N3DSXL system and so far it's the best one I've had, I had the V1 Grip, but it was difficult to reach the shoulder buttons where they put the trigger rests on the V1. The V2 design changed that by moving the trigger rests down more so it's easier to let your middle finger rest on the trigger without blocking your index fingers from the shoulder buttons. There's also a V3 design that's very different, but I haven't tried that although I'd like to get one at some point to try it out.
If I attempt to play my N3DSXL or N3DS without the grip, I can actually dislocate my wrists and fingers from trying to hold the system (health issue causing loose joints). Without the grip, I'd be stuck with turn based games and having to poke at the system as it would be laying on a table.

He may be talking about the Hori Slide pad. It puts the second circle pad on the left trigger location. Most likely favored by those who miss the infamous claw grip.

Honestly I just need one of these in my life.
How different is the bow in world compared to 4U?
I played with bow all the way through 4U (and I'm doing it again) and while I'm thinking about getting into bow when I finally play MHW...I think I'm going to have to wait for a special controller similar to the Hori ESP to come out. I can move my character, my camera, and attack at the same time with ease.

this might work even better for old 3ds or XL
Completely agree with this. If you plan to play MH4U at a higher framerate, go for the new 3DS XL, but if you want a better control scheme in terms of camera control with movement and attacking, the original 3DS XL with the hori expansion slide is a great set-up, especially if you are a veteran that's played the PSP version with the claw hold.
Sadly the new 3DS XL is not accessible with this control pad and I don't think it will have one since it has its own control stick.
The link to the control pad is listed below. Though this product is printed in japanese, it is not region locked and can work with any original 3DS XL.

It isn't in the US so you have to import so it will probably take a bit to arrive.

I have big hands too, If you're still rocking an o3dsxl, try this out. https://smile.amazon.com/3DS-Monster-Hunter-Extended-slide-Nintendo/dp/B00LVRXS8C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469314995&sr=8-1&keywords=monster+hunter+circle+pad
I own both this and the circle pad pro, and far prefer this one for everything. don't have to take fingers off face buttons, and makes it MUCH meatier to hold.
If you get a cpp get this one
https://www.amazon.com/3DS-Monster-Hunter-Extended-slide-Nintendo/dp/B00LVRXS8C
Looks weird but I PROMISE the left index circle pad is the best way to play. It takes a typically low use finger (for MH) and gives it something to do, freeing up a high use finger (right thumb) to focus only of face buttons. It is the best way to play monster hunter by far.
I have a classic 3DS XL but I use the japanese MH4G LL CPP with it. It was cheaper back when they were released but I use it constantly since it makes the 3DS like a normal controller.

This is the best. For 3ds xl though
