great advice here. here's what I use and recommend:

termidor:
https://smile.amazon.com/Termidor-SC-Termiticide-20-oz/dp/B015X6E0LU/

here's the skinny on termidor - it will basically kill any creepy crawly household pest. it is bad for birds, fish, and "aquatic invertebrates." only use outside, "spray along the foundation exterior perimenter to an area one foot up and one foot out from where the ground meets the foundation."

lawn and garden sprayer: https://smile.amazon.com/Chapin-20000-1-Gallon-Garden-Sprayer/dp/B000E28UQU/

and for safety, we'll need a respirator: https://smile.amazon.com/Safety-Works-817662-Pesticide-Respirator/dp/B0009XAIGY/

and goggles (don't listen to the simpsons, they actually do something!): https://smile.amazon.com/3M-Protection-Chemical-Splash-Impact/dp/B00467C7AE/

get yourself in some old clothes, spray twice a year, early spring and fall, and you'll be doing almost exactly what you pay the pest control company to do. total cost for above materials should be <115 + tax for something that should last for many years.

for additional info on termidor, please read the label (especially the section on safety!): http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/msds/Termidor%20Label.pdf

Have you tried the goggles that look like this? https://www.amazon.com/3M-91252-80024-Chemical-Splash-Impact/dp/B00467C7AE If it works for you a bunch of school science classrooms have them, if you're a school team. I'm 90% sure they're compliant but if they work for you it's good to make sure.

Seconding protective eye wear. Get something like this that has protection from the sides. Even if you're careful and move very slowly it can jump up and get you. Easily rinsed from your skin, but there's no reason to take a chance with your eyes.

I think so, I have these in my car kit and a bunch of the middle school science class kind at home.

I use these with my 3M respirator and they work great. Sometimes they get foggy if I have them situated wrong:
