I have a 3M LX550. Using it with a ThinkPad. External monitor sits beside it, setup as a two-monitor system. Use a USB mouse and keyboard - so I'm really just using the laptop's display and not the keys, as depicted in some of the product photos. The escalated height of the laptop's display puts it at about eye-level.

I use this and it gives a great angle to view the laptop screen!

I have the X1 carbon which I flip open 180 degrees and rest it standing up on this stand:

I then have a cheap 15" external portable lcd that I stand in front of it against the laptop keyboard. So look at the 2nd photo on the amazon page but the laptop is more vertical with the 2nd lcd screen covering where the laptop keyboard section is.
It looks kinda funky but It's all very portable and fits into my school backpack so I can easily travel with it.

It's this one For the price it's really good. Has rubber bumpers everywhere so your laptop is sitting nice and tight in place. Also you can save some desk space by pushing your laptop up. :)

Have you seen this one? Not sure how well it would fit in a backpack.
I like the stands I have but they're not even at a 45 degree angle let alone almost vertical.
