Awesome. Check out the book 5 Spice, 50 dishes. It's all about using 5 spices to make all sorts of indian dishes. I think it's around $10. Well worth it IMO.

  • Everyday Yellow Dal from this great little book. It takes some time to simmer but it's dead easy to cook and freezes beautifully. It's vegetarian, and can be made vegan by using something other than butter. If you like extra spice, boil the lentils with a pierced habanero pepper. If you like flavor, follow the author's advice: buy whole spices and grind them just before using.

  • Roast Cauliflower. These two words are a dish, a recipe, and an exhortation. 425 degree oven, brushed/sprayed with oil, 10-15 minutes on each side until brown and somewhat crispy. Little salt and pepper.

  • Good, fresh guacamole. Potluck standby. Best avocados you can find, yielding to the touch but not mushy. Poblano and jalapeño peppers, roasted over a fire (gas burner, in a pinch). A few habanero peppers, seeds and ribs removed, for flavor more than heat. Fresh lime juice, with a bit of zest if you love citrus. Mounds of cilantro. Shallots. Salt and just the tiniest hint of pepper if you want.
