New Design:The Retractable design can be adjusted with the weight of the cable system and rebound automatically.NO more worries about the wire, moving freely in the VR game, better experience with your loved VREasy to Install: Adhesive Hooks works perfect in most surface, drill free.Small, Easy TO Carry and Store . Better than other wire manage holder or stand which is heavy and bigPerfect and Must Have for Htc Vive , for Oculus or other wired VR headset.
Is this for VR? I use a suspended cable management system like this one:
www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/
Coupled with one of these belt clips:
https://www.bindvr.com
This solution has eliminated all my cable hassles entirely. The overhead system keeps the cable off the floor and the belt clip keeps the cable from pulling on your head when/if it gets bound. Works great!
Here is what i ordered specifically
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I went with this after someone on the sub recommended it:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/
It's working really well for me. Sorta similar to your method, but the wires are all above my head rather than behind.
Edit: Looks like at the moment it's $25.99 + $5 shipping. When I ordered mine last week it had free Prime shipping. Still sold by the same seller, just dunno why they aren't offering the free shipping now.
If anyone is interested. Here is my setup.

Used this kit for the pulleys. Double pulleys make a big difference. Very little resistance

like in this pic..

attach it to the first one, let it float on the rest.. that way you have a slack loop hanging down..
It's difficult to say right, because the thing about skyrim and modding is that everything can be tuned to personal taste.
So what I would say, is that I would personally really would look into "Natural Locomotion" on Steam and the VR QuickBelt tool https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16467.
They are tricky to setup but definetely worth it once you get it just right. Natural locomotion worked really well once I got it to be done by using the trackpad instead of the grip buttons.
Also, not technically a game mod, but if you can setup the following correctly, then it adds A LOT to immersion as you don't worry anymore about that pesky cable on the floor and you can rotate physically:
https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523778848&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=vive+ceiling+hook
I'm also planning on setting up voice attack to press Z on shouting a phrase, like if I shout "Fuck" it'll shout one word by holding z for half a second, "Fuck you" would shout two words and "Fuck off" would shout all three.
So got off on a tangent, but I suppose you could say those are technically "modifications."
As for other mods, I would highly suggest, as tedious as it sounds, to search on nexus for mods by category, then sorting by endorsement, and really looking as to what they add and whether or not that entices you, and then grab it!
Personally:

Odds are too, that because there's so many mods loaded, something bound to break at some point. But until then, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Anything that has like a spring that pulls back the line can work. ive seen people use those retractable lanyards or retractable dog leashes
Just a hook wouldnt work as the point is that the device "feeds you" cable when needed and takes it back when you dont.
I bought these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also, Here is a sketch of my play area, and you can see where i put the hooks.
https://i.imgur.com/tfzMhYZ.png
Also if you get the DAS (which i strongly recommend) here is a couple of pics on how i setted up the cables on the headset itself (just make sure they come out the back)
https://i.imgur.com/GDN03Tf.jpg
And just in case you decide to get the ceiling cable management i posted, i found out that doubling or tripling the retractable hooks gave me more freedom of movement, basically i feel the cable pulling me way less with more than 1 hook, like so: https://i.imgur.com/3sATB80.jpg
Also, if you use the ceiling things, id recommend cutting a couple of "stoppers" out of cardboard, these helped me A LOT because from time to time the hooks would join up, or change places and make it unconfortable, these "limits" fixed that by limiting where the hook movements.

Try www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM helped me
It looks just like my system and it works well. I'm using mine with all 6 spread out.
Only one game I had a problem with the cable, holopoint.
That reminds me, always wanted to try something like this..
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM
Anyone want to split it with me? I probably only need 3.
https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=pd_cp_107_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NXAR9B5CA86G4A7MTZPG
I use this: https://www.amazon.com/MDW-Retractable-Management-Headset-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM it works great. I can't even think about going back to playing with a cable hanging getting all tangled in my legs.
/figdudeton noted that it will put stress on the cable. Not if you do this: https://www.reddit.com/r/EchoArena/comments/6ju9kk/cable_management_tips/?st=J59P04LR&sh=e936e8b5
I've got these, they look similar to what OP has:
https://www.amazon.de/Orzero-Entwurfs-Lanyards-Adhesive-Virtual-Kabel-Management/dp/B06XFMY8G9/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1539383151&sr=8-2&keywords=vr+hook
US link: https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1539383439&sr=8-6&keywords=vr+cable
The thing applies to the ceiling with a very strong kind of sticky glue and applies to any surface (I thought it wouldn't apply to mine, since it's all rough, but it holds on fine). Then you can put that black part through the hook applied to the ceiling, which then has a retractable cable in it. Connect the black clip to the cable and put your vr cables through the black clip and you're done. So the only hing that is kind of hard/impossible to remove is the sticky part with the hook in it. The rest can be plug-and-play removed.
MDW 6 Packs NEW Version Retractable Cable Management System for HTC VIVE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Nh8cxgkCxgexs
It's really cheap and convenient. I've only used it a little though, so while it works well I can't speak to its durability. That said, I only used half the stuff they sent so it's easy to replace a spool if it happens to be faulty.
I purchased [a set of these](https://smile.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1524234947&sr=8-3& keywords=vive+cable+management) last year. Note that Amazon carries a variety of similar products. It works fairly well but I'd add some caveats. I have a drop-ceiling in my playspace so I was able to use string to affix the mechanism and didn't have to use the adhesive (which is reportedly very strong to the point of pulling off paint upon removal). You still have to be careful with a system like this because if you're swinging/punching with your arms, you can easily connect with a hanging cable.
I'm not sure if I really recommend it, but I don't regret getting it. I don't always use it, but when I do it has been useful.
These are super low profile: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R96X9DS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And I use these rather than tape to hide my cables to keep the wife happy:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Wiremold-1-Piece-0-75-in-x-60-in-Cord-Cable-Organization-Kit-Ivory-Cord-Cover/3129629
Also this to go "wireless":
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you can always get something like this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_12?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A25ZAA3BEH2FFI
This solves the cord problem for me completely.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This works great for me: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM
I can't find a way to link this video, but I found it on an Amazon Product and he shows the "mod" he used for it to rotate easier. I'll just link the Amazon product, the video is in the reviews.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_tQ26AbVJSTBXS
Got my vive about 2 weeks ago and have been pounding away trying to get the tech kinks removed so I can reliably record and stream it. Figured I'd share some of my personal issues and my fixes for them.
First off my tech specs.
AMD Threadripper 1950x
32 gigs of Gskills 3600 ram
1080 GTX
HTC Vive + Audio strap
First issue I ran into was being able to reliably capture the video in OBS. The monitor usually displays a stretch image that doesnt easily conform to 1920x1080. You can mirror the display but then you are looking at 2 eyes and thats even worse.
This plugin allows you to use the mirrored eyes, strip one, and then make that perfectly fit 1920x1080.
Another issue is being able to see twitch chat while playing. Sure you can open up desktop mode but reading that can be a pain in the ass.
Twitch chat overlay fixed that. You can place chat on a hand or in the world, makes it convenient and limits immersive breakage.
Only other issues Im having that make recording a struggle is audio issues (2 mics and 2 headsets), No access to stream deck, no easy access to streamlabs, and cable management.
I'm trying a pulley system attached to the ceiling but I still somehow manage to get caught up in there still in Pavlov and Robo Recall... really any game that requires fast 360's with your body and not controllers.
Any of you found a way to get streamlabs, streamdeck, or cable management on 360's would love to hear it!
Cant wait till HTC releases their wireless setup. Hope that is solid.
These get near-universal praise on here, I actually got one on a whim today and set it up an hour ago.
https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/
You'll want the 6ft HDMI and USB extension cables too, check the wiki for confirmed working ones.
I clip it to my pants in the center/back (sort of like so, but in back: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/agre02/lowtech_cable_management_even_works_with/) and then use one of those retractable VR ceiling tethers (https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/) to suspend the cable trailing behind me. This way, it's out of my way, I can't step/trip on it, and I don't feel the weight.
Get this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) or any one like it. I've never looked back. Plus it comes with a non permanent adhesive pad for each if you live in an apartment
Here's one such system, amazon has tons of them
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_8Zd6CbZR41FT6
Nice my ceiling is not textured so it would defo work for me and I knew this existed but did not know you could get it as a whole package instead of combining a bunch of smaller purchases from different sources.
Problem is it says does not ship to Canada so I guess I'll have to find a similar thing or order it piece by piece.
EDIT
For my Canadian brothers reading this it seems you can get the same thing on amazon.ca : https://www.amazon.ca/MDW-Retractable-Management-Headset-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511378939&sr=8-1&keywords=VR+Retractable+Cable+Management+System+for+HTC+VIVE Makes me wonder if individually buying all the pieces with a prime account would be cheaper though...but fuck that though lol
I've got a 6ft hdmi extender, 6ft USB 3.0 extender, two 3M (style) hooks, four retractable key chain holders, and two cheapo carabiners.
Besides the Cable extenders I got everything (except the cable extensions from the ¥100 Daiso (dollar store in the U.S) for under Ten bucks.
Other people with VR that have came over and seen my setup have followed suit.
Their is also a simalar setup on Amazon for $25.99 though that seems to be way to much for what little is included.
Pics included of my setup, though your requirements my change depending on ceiling height and room space.
PICTURES
And the US link https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM $26 USD, might have to give this a try. My only concern is my ceiling is really high in my VR room. I may need to suspend the pulleys somehow.
I've invested some €30 in this VR cable solution: link amazon . It works pretty well, though you can still get tangled up in the cable when you tend to turn too much in one direction compared to the other (apparently, I much prefer to turning to the left for some reason). It does get the cable successfully out of your feet however. All in all it's worth the price I'd say. As I live in Europe, I bought it on amazon.de .
US link
There's actually a kit for this sold for $26 on Amazon that does this. It's meant for the ceiling but could easily be used for walls or the floor, as you have. I like your idea of using a weight!
Amazon link
Total rip off: a few sticky hooks + a few id card retractors # $25.99
> Forgot to answer, I have about 5 foot of space. Another question, is there anyway to have the headsets wireless or are the forced wired? And if so is there any negatives or benefits from having it wireless vice versa
This may be a factor that ends up making the HMD decision for you if it matters that much.
Both the Vive and the Rift have wireless options. The option for the Rift (and it's also made for the Vive) is called the TPCast and is a ~$300 option. Note that the Vive and Rift versions are not interchangeable. Also note that the TPCast is an excellent proof of concept but has some technical issues that, in my opinion, mean it isn't ready for prime time. I had one and returned it.
That said, HTC has launched an official wireless solution that's much more polished. It is $300 and requires a PCIe card to function, unlike the TPCast which was a wireless/ethernet-based solution. However, it appears to be the real deal.
Note that there are also cable management solutions that do a reasonably decent job of keeping cables out of the way, assuming they're long enough. I'm currently using something like this. However, the included retractable devices aren't really strong enough unless they are spaced together closely or more than one is at a specific point and then you plan how your cable will be supported and where it will coil as it gets retracted. There are better retractable key rings than the ones this kit includes (these ones are designed for key cards rather than keys, so they're weaker) so I may replace them. Also, the sticky pads won't stay sticky forever and come off textured surfaces almost immediately. I ended up screwing them into ceiling joists in my basement, which is where my VR is usually set up. I'll probably upgrade to the wireless solution when it becomes available because I like quality of life improvements to VR, but it's by no means a necessary expense. I'd recommend putting that money toward a good video card and an inexpensive cable management setup rather than getting a cheap video card so you can go wireless.
Yeah, I have extensions to mine with the extensions wrapped in this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FQR8XEW
With the extra slack it's not as bad. Others have opted to suspend the cords on the ceiling using retracable cables like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM
I use these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the cable running along the center of the ceiling about 1.5" from the ceiling itself so it doesn't interfere with the light I have up there. The cable itself is strapped to the headset strap at the point of the crown of my head (towards the back). If it's further up, it tends to feel like someone is pulling on a hat straight up. If it's further back, it tends to have too much slack and gets in the way.

I also use the new version (less stiff) of the cable. You want to make sure you leave some good slack. I have the breakout box on the wall itself. This way, the cable is entirely suspended from the ceiling. The computer has it's own set of cables that go up the wall into the breakout box.

Couple of things I do want to point out.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This works too.
Been using it for both my rift and vive without issues.
Truly the best way to play.
I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The original version has the problem you mention. Now they include a square of "sticky" designed to go between the clear plastic hooks and the wall/ceiling. Using that makes everything stay perfectly. Just remove the backing on one side, stick it where you want it, remove the other sides backing and the backing on the hook... press and done.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6EB8DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
US link with more reviews than the UK page:https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M6EB8DM
Eta: though looks like a lot of reviews are for a different product. What a train wreck of a product page.
Saw this on amazon today. Any one have this looks like it could be nice organizer. (Link is not a referral link)
Also noticed this looks to be by the same company
Retractable Cable Management for HTC VIVE
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM
Works perfect:
6 Packs Retractable Cable Management for HTC VIVE NEW Version System for HTC VIVE Virtual Reality Headset- MDW Adhesive Drill Free https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2MPMzb683ZM9Y
Here is what I use. It's a great cable management option. It's basically a pulley system that sticks onto the ceiling with spring retractable cables.
https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM
Any advice on cable? I am constantly worried about picking a 'bad one' I can never tell if one is going to be crap or not...
I was thinking of something like this. I get the tangle... but not have it would stress the cables any more than my stepping on them and constantly tangling them by turning around. Thoughts on that?
I'm using the Collective Minds stand for my PSVR.
I've got the MDW Retractable Cable Lanyards.
The AIM Stock is Paynis' design on Thingiverse.
I used 3DHubs to have someone print it for me (just download the project from Thingiverse, upload to 3DHubs and get some quotes).
And lastly, the chair is the LEVL Gaming Alpha Series M.
I’m using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Management-Headset-MDW-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1540916930&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=vr+cable&dpPl=1&dpID=414oxYbQLfL&ref=plSrch
There are several of those on Amazon (search for VR cable management).
I’m only using two pulleys though but they come with a little hex wrench so you can set a stopper to give them a minimum length (so they don’t pull all the way to your high ceiling)
one way to prevent that problem is to organize your cables, I preferred my cables to be coming from the ceiling so I got something like this so that I won't trip on them and less tangles. If sticking stuffs on the ceiling isn't an option I've heard some people use something like an old lamp stand that they run the cables on by putting some velcro or something to hold them in place, and you could take it out and store in somewhere if not in use
There's a wire harness system out there that holds the wires above your head. When you walk around they give the wires slack. When you walk back to the middle they pull the wires back up.
Just Google vive wire harness system or something.
6 Packs Retractable Cable Management for HTC VIVE NEW Version System for HTC VIVE Virtual Reality Headset- MDW Adhesive Drill Free https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6EB8DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_K436BbS29P7V9
I'll just mention stuff I've tried myself.
If money is no object, multiple monitors or at least headless ghosts are ironically useful in virtual desktop applications like Bigscreen. I run 3x2560x1600 in one large screen. Bigscreen has an update coming for multiple monitors too. Big physical screens are nice for spectators/multiplayer.
Until the wireless adapter comes out, a decently long displayport cable and longer USB cable running to the link box to cover the large play area and if you have an original Vive, the new 3-in-1 cable with a sleeve.
I've been looking at [this overhead pulley thing](https://www.amazon.com/MDW-Retractable-Management-Headset-Adhesive/dp/B01M6EB8DM/
) but I haven't actually tried it yet.
Two Vives would be good, you can run them off the same 2 base stations and partition the space with chaperone. I run a Rift and a Vive in the same room.
Get an assistant/intern/wife/child to help you set up/put things away, maintain everything, patch/update, find new content, etc...
Accessories:
You might want a good recording setup with mixed reality support as well.
e: stuff I forgot
I use something like this except I have the old one that uses springs. It holds my cables up and out of the way so I can spin 360 without tripping over them or even feeling them. Also, if I leave my playspace, they start addign resitence, so I know i've gone too far. Dont need gardian
I highly recommend retractables
