Shouldn't be an issue. I use a similar setup for comms. One tip: buy a USB extension cable and put it between your bike USB port and the cable to your device. A short one like this works well.

The extender works as a breakaway point in case you forget to unplug. Decreases risk to both the port on your bike and the port on your device.

Yep- https://www.amazon.com/6in-USB-Extension-Adapter-Cable/dp/B000E5CYW8

Using this for an RTL-SDR dongle as well- which blocks the adjacent ports on the Pi for me. This allowed me to gain those ports back.

6" extension. Useful for fat usb devices or those with right-angle plugs.

Customers who bought this item also bought: FlightAware RTLSDR. ADS-B High Gain Antenna. Glonass dongle. NooElec RTLSDR. etc

It might be hard to splice that USB connector pins so get the shortest usb extension you can get and splice that mid way on the cable.

like this one https://www.amazon.com/6in-USB-Extension-Adapter-Cable/dp/B000E5CYW8

Then you can connect that USB reader to the extension you just spliced with a switch

google the USB pin out diagram to confirm but looking at your picture 5v+ would be the pin on top. Most likely the red wire on the extension cable

For the switch, I guess you could just short the sdcard reader switch so it always reads as card inserted, and use the floppy switch to activate power to the usb reader.

If for whatever reason OP wants a little less bulk, a simple usb 2.0 extension cable should work by the same principle.http://www.amazon.com/6in-USB-Extension-Adapter-Cable/dp/B000E5CYW8

You could also use a USB extension cable that doesn't have a fat plug surround on it...

$3 bucks man.

I have like 10. They're invaluable, unless you count the 3 bucks.
