PSA: Mayflash makes a clone adapter that works on Wii U, PC, and Switch just as perfectly as the official one and can be found easily on Amazon for under $20. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE

EDIT SECONDARY PSA: 8BitDo also makes a wireless 1-port adapter for switch and PC that allows you to connect a single controller to your Switch wirelessly, in tabletop, handheld, or docked mode. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Adapter-Nintendo-GameCube-Classic-Controllers/dp/B07JLF9PVG

Besides the Panda Global adapter, you could try one of the following:

8bitdo G Bros. Wireless Adapter. Lets you use the original GC controller, but it'll be wireless so there'll be a slight increase in input delay. Not sure if it's noticeable but I doubt it, should be like any other wireless controller.

Get a USB C to USB A adapter and plug the original GC adapter in it. A bit more of a mess than the Panda Global adapter but this works just fine. You'd have to get some kind of stand like this if you want to have the Switch standing up, since the USB C adapter is gonna prevent you from using the Switch kickstand.

PowerA's is the only straight up wireless controller in the GCN style. The other new versions are wired. 8BitDo has announced a wireless adapter, but unless you're using it with a Wavebird that's still going to involve wires.

8bitdo Gbros adapter. I'm using one for that exact purpose. Works great.

Side note: The SNES controller does not have ZL and ZR but the adapter will send that command if you press Start and Select at the same time. So you can still get to the save state menu and rewind despite not having the physical buttons to do so.

So I found this product recently but haven't opened the box yet. It makes any game cube controller wireless and maintains rumble. Also got some reusable batteries.

I have so many controllers lying around.

Assuming the input delay isn't bad a wireless GC controller adapter might be for you. I've never owned this product so I can't stand by it's quality but It's worth a shot.

Go with this adapter plus Wii Classic Pro or the SNES Classic controller. I play SMM 1 with a SNES controller and its awesome.

If you’re looking for a wireless option, 8bitdo has a nice adapter. . I know it says Nintendo Switch, but it’s also windows compatible.

u/fifosexapel · 2 pointsr/MarioMaker2

I love the Pro Controller, but I have heard people complain about the D-Pad. I have never had an issue with mine, but I have not played a lot D-Pad intensive games with it.

I have heard good things about the Power A controllers (both the gamecube style and the pro controller style) but I haven't used them myself. The wired ones can be found for around $25 and the wireless for $40 so they might be a good choice as a second controller if you don't want to spend too much.

I own this Gamecube adapter that lets you connect both GCN and has a Wii Classic Controller socket, which means you can connect the controllers from the mini consoles to the Switch - which I plan to do to play SMM2 levels.

I'm also considering this 8 bit do adapter that lets you connect PS4, Xbox and Wii U Pro controllers to switch, since I really like the WIi U Pro and it's just gathering dust at home.

You could give this one a try: http://www.8bitdo.com/gbros/

I'm not sure if they are selling them on the UK Amazon site though.

edit: found it!

I preordered this bad boy for this exact reason.

u/bread_thread · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Nah, they’re only for docked mode.

But! this will let you use the controllers outside of docked mode

u/TheBearOfBadNews · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

If you don't have a ton of controllers that need to be connected, or have the money to spend, my brother and I use these wireless adapters and they work great. I've not noticed latency or anything like that if that worries you, but I'm also not a competitive player.

u/RickVince · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not to mention the home button and everything that comes on the Pro controller and Joycons.

However I think I'm gonna stick with my classic console controllers and my beloved 8Bitdo Gbros.

u/Airsh · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I use this, but you need to plug it into a Wii remote as that's how you connect to it. You will need to make sure to update the drivers on this adapter btw. However, if you don't have a Wii remote lying around: There's also this thing too.

8 bit do sells an adapter that I use in place of my Pro controller and it works great for original Gamecube controllers. It just maps the buttons to either a switch pro style (shoulders are ZL/ZR & Z is R) or GCN (shoulders are L/R & Z is ZR).

u/madmitch411 · 1 pointr/smashbros

There's also this, if you wanna use your gamecube controller wirelessly.

I use the 8bitdo Gbros Adapter to play Switch games with my classic controller and Wii GCN controller. It has a PC setting and you can also plug in via included USB dongle.

I have this, it's pretty great. You plug the controller into that guy and then it syncs like any other controller to the switch (or any other device that has bluetooth; phone, tablet, PC etc.). Bonus upside, you can also use the Classic Controllers from both the NES and SNES Classics as well as any controller attachment that plugged into the Wii-motes.

Now I don't know how you feel about a wireless option, but if you are already using the 8bitdo wireless adapters, there is a wireless transmitter. It's made for the switch, and it uses batteries, but it works pretty well. I haven't tested it on the SNESC, though. The nunchuck also works for it as an NES controller without a start or select.

u/lazyeyemcfly C-Towner is talking about the GBros adapter. I have it. Set up was simple, and it does its job without any hiccups. Just don't try to plug it in via the included micro USB to the Switch - I thought maybe it was for a wired option when the batteries die but it crashes it, seems like it's intended for firmware).

If you really want to get into it, there are instructions online to rebuild the controller and adapter into a WaveBird shell. This guy posted about it. I presume you could also just do it with a Wavebird and the adapter, but you would need to actually redo some of the wiring.

Edit: No it's not, did not read the post fully smh. I think Mayflash has something but I'd have to do some research and I'm about to leave the office.

There was some misinformation a few months back, the Elecom adapter is not compatible with guitars. Had a user saying it was with no proof, and a bunch of people went out and bought them.

There are two that are known to work. One is by Raphnet, and I'll have to find the other one, give me a but to edit. I still fully recommend the Raphnet adapter when it goes back in stock.

Edit: this one supposedly works. Had a few people on here praising it. Just need some sort of USB extension because it's short.

Still recommend the Raphnet adapter because it's long enough and plug in play, plus you can download the drivers and get 2ms latency.

u/mboeblay · 1 pointr/smashbros

That's certainly inventive, but I'd probably invest in one of these if you really want to use GC controllers during undocked play.

u/kh9sd · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There is a pricier way to play with Gamecube controllers, using 8bitdo's Gamecube wireless adapter. It's not out yet, but releases on the same day as Smash, so you should be fine there. However, its $20 bucks per adapter, which only supports up to one player each, but does have home and screenshot buttons on the adapter, which makes the Gamecube controllers more viable for other games.

You could also get a stand for your Switch, and use a USB type-C adapter to connect any Gamecube adapter. The GC adapters only need the black cable to be plugged in for all four controllers to function, the grey end only provides rumble.

Are you looking for something like this? It’s an adapter, but since it’s wireless you don’t need to use one of the USB ports and it works undocked.

The GameCube controller adapter takes up two usb slots and can be plugged into the dock. You can't use GameCube controllers portably with the offical adapter. Personally I reccomend either getting the powerA wireless gamecube controller or the 8bitdo wireless adapter if you want to play portable and docked.

I've been using this 8bitdo adapter with the SNES classic controller. It says its a wireless adapter but you can also use it wired, which is amazing.

The only drawback is that the SNES classic controller doesn't have joysticks, so you can't really use it in editor. So stupid that you can't move the camera or cursor with the DPAD. But aside from that, it's basically perfect for actual gameplay.

u/bharatb17 · 1 pointr/MarioMaker

This 8bitdo Bluetooth adapter supports the nes/snes Classic controllers or game cube controller with the switch:

If you want to connect multiple controllers, you'll need to get a usb c converter, and you'll need a 3rd party stand so the plug can stick out of the bottom. Or you can wait for that kickstarter one.

If you just need one controller, 8bitdo makes a wireless one and I've heard it works fine.
