I've liked a lot of the same books you have so I'll toss this one out there because I don't know many people who have read it:
"A Fraction of the Whole" by Steve Toltz

I recently did a huge book purge and this is one of the few I kept to reread.
This is also a bit out of left field, but Steve Toltz "A Fraction of the Whole" is darkly hilarious, but never pretentious, and always full of very human insight. It touched me in that way that makes me want to run around making people read it. http://www.amazon.com/Fraction-Whole-Steve-Toltz/dp/0385521731 Features a redhead known as "The Towering Inferno" and a DIY guide for criminals.
He's a bit more literary, but Julian Barnes also has that special mix that a keen mind, a quick wit, and a sympathetic heart can bring to storytelling. The Sense of an Ending was his latest, and had quite the celebrated publishing moment, but I can't imagine anyone not favoring The History of the World in 10.5 Chapters. http://www.amazon.com/History-World-10-Chapters/dp/0679731377/ref=la_B000APWCZG_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1368048687&sr=1-5
This feels like the plot of Steve Toltz' "A Fraction of the Whole."
