I have both depression and anxiety.
I haven't gotten rid of it, and it's still very much a part of my life. However, I feel so much better now that I've taken necessary steps. I can tell it's going to be hard work, but I've already reaped the benefits.
I've been using a guided meditation called headspace. It has a ten day "trial" that you can listen to over and over again. It's helped me immensely. I feel calmer afterwards and ready for the day.
Religion wise, I consider myself an atheist. However, I've started to look into Buddhist philosophy. I'll frequently listen to a podcast called Against the Stream. There's a lot of wonderful ideas to apply to your life. I've also been reading A Guide to the Present Moment and it seems like it's going to make a huge impact on me.
I urge you to look into these. It may or may not work for you and unfortunately it's about trial and error. Just stay strong and keep the end goal in mind. :)
