Because within just a few months of release (probably due to poor sales given the Amazon listings at the time and Steam hardware survey) the Windows MR systems were cut from $399 to $249 in the US.

It's annoying how close to good they are, but I think when you're physically moving around a lot in VR you need IPD adjustment or it just feels wrong. Also I just can't go back from full controller tracking (Rift with 3 sensors or HTC Vive) to the annoying way they jitter as they come back into your FoV with the Windows MR tracking, or just when you're trying to do something in a game when you can't see your hands.

It comes up as $379.99 at B&H for me now, but Amazon.com now have it for $199 as well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075PVLN2P

They have international shipping available - for me it's $22 shipping and $14 customs fees (the latter usually being refunded for me!).

Something like this? Huh, TIL, okay, it's a lot more affordable than I thought it'd be. I'd been sitting here thinking it was like $800 min.

If your computer is capable, then any of the lower range WMR headsets would be fine. eg Lenovo Explorer, Acer, Dell.

You can find them on sale for 200 or less, just make sure the controllers are included, in fact, ACER is on sale on amazon right now for $178USD

Some would say the controller tracking on WMR headsets is problematic, but I recently got an S on Angel Voices expert with a Lenovo Explorer.

I mean, at less than $200 (looks like it's a few dollars over currently but was $185 so recently price trackers think that's still the price, has been as low as $130), I say WMR is the best bang for your buck personally. I am bias in saying that as I own a WMR headset (Lenovo Explorer, Walmart, $176 around the holidays), but they have a higher resolution than the Rift or Vive, so better visuals, and I have yet to run into a situation where the tracking was an actual problem. Between that and saving a few hundred dollars, definitely best bang for your buck IMO.

Get a refurbished prebuild desktop on ebay like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-Power-580-023w-Tower-Intel-i5-7400-GTX-1060-GPU-8-GB-RAM-1TB-HDD/112864837693?epid=16010355860&hash=item1a4744c03d:g:y4MAAOSwGltaptYh

(can also be found on Amazon for a bit more)

Then get a windows mixed reality headset like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Windows-Reality-Headset-VD-R05AP-002/dp/B075PVLN2P/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523804593&sr=8-1&keywords=windows+mixed+reality

Though honestly I would probably spend a little more than this and get a used Vive or new Rift. This setup comes in at about the price point of a PS4 + headset, of course if you like other games that the PS4 has outside of VR then you should probably still go that route.

Well if you think Windows Mixed reality is also an option then Acer mixed reality can be brought for around Rs. 31000 directly from amazon.com, price includes shipping and custom duty.

You are right that it needs to mature more as a technology, there are plenty of faults with current VR. But if you have a gaming PC and want to give it a go sooner, you can get a full system capable of room-scale or seated with motion controllers included, that doesn't require sensors to be installed for $230-$240 right now.

u/Phaedrus0230 · 1 pointr/SteamVR

If I were in your situation, I would try out a dell visor for $250 and wait for a vive pro or other future headset depending on how I liked the windows platform (It can still use steamvr to my knowledge).

edit: or this one. There are some cheap options if you're willing to try the windows thing.

I have an unopened Acer mixed reality headset that came with my Dell Inspiron 7577. Here's a link. PM me if you're interested.

Edit: did the link thing backwards.

I just used one of these today with Acer branding but it looks exactly the same. It seemed like an ok setup but I don't have too much to compare it too. The upside/downside is that does not have the extra motion tracking that Oculus has. Less hardware to setup but it is not as accurate. Also, FYI the controllers run on AA so invest in some rechargeable batteries or Duracel stock.

Get the one I linked instead it's only $178 on Amazon right now, it's the same thing, just different branding. It may not be as good as Oculus but it's also a fraction of the price. Just make sure you PC hardware is VR capable first.
