I think this one for $50 more is a better deal:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4

Basically the same, but it has the 6200u instead of the 7200u and a 940MX instead of the iGPU. And Free shipping.

u/The--Technician · 8 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Go ahead and get the Acer Aspire E 15 laptop .It is in your budget range and will do an excellent job at playing those games you listed above. It has a nice 6th generation i5 processor, 8 GB RAM which is great, a 256 GB SSD which is great as it provides some much needed speed, and of course it has a NVIDIA 940MX dedicated graphics card.

u/PVonMuter · 7 pointsr/hardware

The average consumer buys around a 700 dollar laptop, so this is the area in the market where most price gouging is.

Laptops are incredibly low margin to sell, single digits in many cases, so manufactures try to save as much on BOM costs as possible.

However, I don't agree they haven't moved. Yes ram amounts and harddrives are the same but there are improvements on the whole. 1080 screens are increasingly becoming the norm at $500, these laptops are getting much thinner with lower wattage CPUs, which are typically faster than six years ago by a large margin.

Also, remember six years ago the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar. However, now buying the equivalent $700 dollar laptop in Canada is around a $500 laptop in America.

Here is a $550 laptop with SSD, Dgpu and 1080p screen

Here is entry level gaming at regular consumer purchasing price

If anyone here is looking to buy it for the specs alone, then you can get the EXACT SAME CPU/RAM/GPU in this acer for $550 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4

EDIT: Of course youre sacrificing build quality, screen resolution, possibly thermals.

$550 with no dedicated gpu and no ssd? I like what I got for $50 less. Still an i5, had a dedicated gpu, a 250gb ssd, and expandable memory slot avaliable.

Pushing the budget a bit but this seems good and up to date with times

u/Michiganders · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Overwatch is not a very demanding game and would be playable with something like the lenovo Z51, costing around $460. It's specs include a skylake i5 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has an AMD R7 M360 graphics card which will allow it to play Overwatch pretty smoothly, although graphics will have to be set to low or medium to maintain 60 FPS. It also has a full 1080p display.

If you can it may be worth it to save for the Acer E15 for $550 though. It has a GTX 940MX graphics card which would play overwatch smoothly and allow you to play more intense games if you wish (but still not AAA titles very well).

u/LonerIM2 · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

As other have mentioned the 8GB of ram is the sweet spot for most games, however, if you are only going to play this games then you would be way overpaying for your usage, even this would be more than enough.

u/wolfsnowpack · 5 pointsr/footballmanagergames

TBH if you wanted to buy a laptop for FM you should of asked like a week ago, when Black Friday and Cyber Monday were going on (If you live in the states that is). If not wait for Christmas to get a bit closer and there will probably be some good deals.

You should minimally look for a laptop with at least a hard drive (Storage size is up to you) at 7200 rpm, or an SSD. An I5 processor that can run higher than 2.6 ghz, and at least 4 gb. I don't think graphics are really that intensive in the game, but having a dedicated graphics card would help.

[549.99, but no dedicated graphics] (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-F556UA-AB54-Intel-Windows-Laptop/dp/B01M08DL26/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480721464&sr=1-4&keywords=laptops+on+sale&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289793011%2Cp_n_graphics_type_browse-bin%3A14292273011%2Cp_n_feature_fourteen_browse-bin%3A2057441011)

Okay, perfect! I would recommend you get this Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG lapotp . It has a nice i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, a fast 256 GB SSD and a Geforce 940 mx dedicated graphics card. This laptop will the latest digital paint tools and run much more than single player games very well. Very importantly, this laptop has a wonderful battery life. Acer advertises 12 hours, but expect to get around 10 hours in average tasks..this is still excellent!

u/subtleReaper · 5 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

I bought this computer about 2 months ago and it can run CSGO consistently above 90 fps. It can even run BF1 at 60-70 fps (with some tweaks). Its an awesome computer and really fast thanks to the SSD and its only $550! highly recommend if you already have a good desktop and want something to game on the go!

it would be best to spend a few more bucks and get this nice Acer Aspire E 15 which houses a nice i5 cpu, 8gb ram a decent 940mx gpu and a fast 256gb ssd storage.

I use this when traveling:

If I lost it, it would be depressing, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. It's powerful enough for Adobe Photoshop / Indesign and the other tools I use.

If you built a desktop you would have a much better time.

u/Folknasty · 4 pointsr/gadgets

I have this computer and it runs every game smoothly that I've tried playing on it so far. I haven't tried anything as graphics intensive as AC: Syndicate, but it runs Stardew Valley, Portal 2, Don't Starve Together, Civilization V, Tropico 4, and the Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ to name a few.

u/androidwkim · 4 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

I was looking at an ultrabook for university, but they are all too expensive, so I instead decided to look for general use laptops with decent specs.

I looked through /r/SuggestALaptop and found a laptop with great specs for 549USD. I was able to find the exact same model on amazon.ca, and it's only 610 CAD for i5-6200u, 1080p display, and a 940MX. The only problem is, it's from a brand new seller and has a $6 shipping fee for some weird reason.

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1469381270&sr=1-1&keywords=E5-575G-53VG

Does this seem like a legit deal (how would this work with warranty and would amazon protect me if it turned out to be a scam), and if not, does anyone have a good recommendation for a laptop with roughly the same specs?

u/construktz · 4 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

GTA V on that budget really isn't very feasible. The best you can do is the AMD APU in this Asus X555DA. Don't get me wrong, it's a really good deal with a 1080p display for $399, but you aren't going to get to GTA playability with it.

Take a look at this list to see what is available at what prices and compare.

Specifically, look to the Acer Aspire E15-574G for $479. That would get you an i5-6200U, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Nvidia GT 940M graphics, and a 15.6" 1920x1080 display.

However, if at all possible, I would urge you to get the extra $150 to get this Acer Aspire E15-575G for $549.

That would get you a more powerful GPU, and a 256GB SSD. Well worth the extra money. Not to mention it advertises 12 hour battery life.

Since Steam In-Home streaming relies on the source computer to do all the processing, the actual laptop it's being streamed to doesn't have to be all that powerful. Your primary concern for a stream laptop is going to be your network card. With that in mind, I suggest this Asus
or this Acer.

The Acer has everything the Asus has, is within .2 lbs of weight (5 pounds for either) with the addition of a dedicated graphics card. I'm more inclined to suggest the Acer as a better overall deal, since for an extra $20 you get the capability to game reasonably well on the go. The Asus, however, does have a slightly larger battery (38wH vs ~31wH on the Acer) so I would estimate you're looking at about an hour difference in favor of the Asus. Say 4-5 hours for the Acer and 5-6 for the Asus under normal usage. Not a colossal difference, but it might affect your usage plans for it. As far as Steam streaming, both have dedicated Ethernet ports- which I would absolutely prioritize over relying on WiFi. Especially if you're playing a fast-paced game like Overwatch.

u/thelphelper · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

i recommend getting the Acer Aspire E 15 15.6inch Full HD, Intel Core i5 processor which more than enough to hanlde Music writing programs, the NVIDIA 940MX which is great for gaming, 8GB ram DDR4 and 256GB SSD which brings storage and speed to boot your programmes, softwares and apps very quickly

For that price you're going to have to hunt around for a deal. This Acer is a great deal for the price, I've seen it go for $400 before, which is by far the best bang for your buck. Check out Slickdeals.net and with that budget, I'd definitely consider refurbished/used models.

I'm working this summer to pick up a laptop before my semester starts at college. Just a few hundred more to go!

Edit: here's the link! I know it's not the most flashy laptop, but I'm super stoked to get this guy because I've been going through very cheap laptops that have been dying on me and it's been draining me (poor college student trying to support himself). But this seems to be the best deal I could find. I'm gonna get an SSD to replace the HDD to boost the speed and set up a clean windows 10. Super excited cause it'll be my first time working on a laptop (replacing the HDD and upgrading Ram... eventually). I'm studying Finance and IT so ive done some of this stuff before, but it'll be a first for me doing it on my own personal computer.

It's under your budget, so you've got some leftover for a solid mouse and a cooling pad. DO NOT SKIP OUT ON BUYING A COOLING PAD. Gaming generates a lot of heat, heat kills components if not ventilated well, laptops suck at cooling, you get where I'm going with this.

League is one of the easiest games to play. My 4 year old Laptop can play it with 4 GB of Ram and an intel i3. Yes 4 GB is enough but if you can get 8 GB that would just make everything more enjoyable.

https://m.newegg.com/Product?ItemNumber=34-315-713&iscoz=true

Found this one. It has a dedicated graphics card. Won't be able to run games on high settings but it should play League fairly well. It has 1 TB storage which is pretty good. The CPU is also alright and it has 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. Alternatively if you believe he doesnt need that much storage (1 TB) you can buy him the one with 256 GB SSD storage. It would make loading LoL faster.

It has a dedicated graphics card, 8GB DDR4 RAM, Intel i5-6200U (2.3-2.8 GHz), and an SSD. I own one, and it can run moderate games well (60 FPS on CSGO at max settings). Indie games should run well on it. Only thing I've played on it that was a little slow was SWTOR, but that's a big MMO. EDITED TO ADD: NO BUG, THIS WAS A COINCIDENCE. MY WIRELESS ROUTER APPARENTLY BROKE AT THE SAME TIME AS MY UPDATE. SORRY!!!!

> Post bug reports, issues that you encounter as a reply to this comment. Follow the format which is shown at the bottom of the thread

.
OK, here is my bug report (unless it is an incompetence report! LOL)

> Description: Describe the issue in as much detail as possible.

I bought a new Acer Aspire E5-575G Signature Edition laptop a week ago, and it arrived with AU functioning on it. Three days ago I manually upgraded to CU.

After the upgrade, first my laptop was bumped off its wireless network connection every 20-60 minutes or so, and had to be reconnected. Finally today it would not connect at all, for 2-3 hours. However my iPad (connected to the same wireless network, which is only 15 feet away from both the iPad and laptop) stayed online with no problems. So I am thinking that the problem is not my wireless network (also tested with my boyfriend's wireless network since he lives next door; it could not connect with either one).

I ran the troubleshooter but could not understand much of what it was saying.

Finally I rolled back to AU and my laptop no longer has any problems at all with connecting to my wireless network. The problem only exists with Creator's Update. The network adapter driver did not need updating in Creator's Update.

After I rolled back to Anniversary Update I went to the Device Manager and updated the network adapter driver. It did update, but I still have no problems at all with connecting to my wireless network.

> Reproduction: Provide clear and concise steps that will allow the person/people trying to help you to reproduce/understand the bug.

I have no idea how to reproduce it other than re-installing the CU on my laptop.

> Frequency: How often does the bug occur? If it’s a complete one off then it may not be worth investigation, but if it’s more frequent it’s useful to know how often.

See above. I had to roll back to get internet access again.

> Video / Screenshot: A link to a video or screenshot of your bug, if that would be helpful. Imgur is a great website for pasting screenshots and ShareX is a great program for recording gifs, videos.

Wireless settings that work in Anniversary Update. Didn't make any screenshots when I had no internet access with Creator's Update (oops).

> System Specifications: Processor name, RAM, Graphics card, anything you think could be useful. Please ensure that you have the latest updates and driver updates installed.

That would be cheaper, if you are not afraid to use Flash Drives and Cloud Storage to store large files. 256gb is pretty small. But with it being an SSD, boot times are lightning fast, and you should never see any problems with Photoshop with the GTX 940MX gpu in it.

It's around $550 but the ssd is worth it

u/NoseFaceButt · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you want a 17"+ gaming laptop for under 600 bucks don't expect it to be good. I would recommend this laptop. It's a great deal.

A i5 6200U with a mean clock rate of 2.8 GHz (super high for a 525 usd laptop) with a quad core. Should be perfect for running processing intensive games like porn total war etc. The Skylake architecture means you have some leeway to over clock it, though I don't recomend it.

A Nvidia 940MX. A solid Mobile GPU with 2 GB of GDDR5. You should be able to run GTA 5 at 45 FPS at high due to it's VRAM and it's high clock speed. You can also overclock this.

8 GB of DDR3 means you'll be able to run all RAM intensive games like Minecraft and whatnot.

256 GB SSD (upgradeable to 512 GB for 130 USD) means you have fast boot and load times.

I was just in your situation a week ago. I'm an EE though. I ended up getting an Acer Aspire E 15 due to the great reviews on amazon. (It's also the #1 seller on amazon).

Intel I5, 8gb of DDR4 RAM, 256gb ssd, and a dedicated Nvidia 940mx graphics card.

It runs great and while there are competitors out there, none of them were as upgradable.
You can upgrade: RAM, and add 2 more hard drives.

The 940mx graphics gives you about 2.5x the performance of the built in intel graphics.

I wouldn't get something with a 1366x768 display. The display is an important part, and lots of computers have much better displays.

Also a dedicated GPU will run Dota 2 better.

Something like this perhaps: https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1479157685&sr=8-3&keywords=acer+Full+HD

Edit: This Acer also has a 1080p HD screen and a faster CPU

Edit 2: Forgot about CAN and USD.

Yeah that laptop might be worth it then.

You can't directly compare US models sold in the EU. For example this laptop for sale at amazon (US): $549,99 ext vat = $659.99 inc 20% vat = ~€600. It is also for sale on amazon de: €746,-. Nearly €150 more expensive.

However, a similar laptop sells for €629,- on amazon de.

That's not happening then. This is within your budget but it can only run Witcher 3 on low @ 1366x768 at a shitty framerate: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-Laptop-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4/

Anything with a dedicated gfx card will destroy that thing, this one would perform 2x better easily, it also has an SSD and runs at 1080p. It's more expensive but is much higher performance per dollar.

u/SaneBRZ · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Acer has decent specced laptops in your budget range. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can get him either something with a Nvidia GT 940MX or 950M as GPU.

940MX:

u/johnnyp42 · 2 pointsr/computers

You can get an Acer Aspire with a fairly new i5 and a 940mx for under $600.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-15-6-Inch-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4

That's pretty much the best you're going to do at that budget without buying used.

You really want to pay attention to the video card and how old it is. The 940mx is bare minimum, any weaker than that and integrated graphics on a newer cpu is going to be better.

Notebookcheck is great for gaming benchmarks on laptop video cards.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-940MX.156033.0.html

If you increase your budget by a couple hundred bucks you can find something with a GTX 1050, which would be great. If you can't and you buy used I wouldn't go with anything weaker than that 940mx - try for maybe a 960m

u/kronkifer · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You can't really build laptops. (I think technically there are some you can but it's not worth it)

Since this is /r/buildapc, would you be interested in building a nice desktop and then getting a fairly cheap laptop for carrying around? For $1500 you could build a pretty beast computer and still have room for an alright laptop.

Your uses don't really sound too demanding so if you went for a laptop I really don't think you would need to spend that much. A laptop like this should play those games pretty well. This is actually the same model but with the newer generation cpu. It goes for I think $550 when it's in stock.

You could also ask /r/SuggestALaptop. I haven't looked around too much for the best Cyber Monday laptop deals.

If you do go laptop only then I do recommend getting one with at least a skylake i5, an SSD, and a dedicated graphics card.

u/Uzonna · 2 pointsr/laptops

Well those specs aren't great. You should be able to run the games listed, but going forward you'll probably just scrape by on low. The i3 should really be an i5, 940MX should be at least 950M (and even that's not great) and finally, you need 8GB RAM. This laptop is the bare minimum for current gaming and again the 940MX in this thing isn't even recommended

u/KronesianLTD · 2 pointsr/ucf

I use the Aspire E 15 with the I5. Got it mainly for the SSD, which I find makes running things much, much quicker. The battery on it is bloody impressive, and usually will last the whole day on an overnight charge. I use my gaming PC for games, so I don't know how well it runs any games.

u/matif_qazi · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Well here is the thing, most of the screen on the laptops are only 60 Hz, therefore, the maximum FPS that you can get is 60. With that said, basic programming does not require a powerful system.

So for programming and battery life i'd say go for this Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG . 12 hours battery (rated)

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-Laptop-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4

The reason I like this laptop is that it falls well within your budget. At the same time it has a low-mid end graphics card. It cannot play AAA titles, but the games that you mentioned should be handled with ease (not at high graphic though).

Alternatively, you can check out List of Programming Laptops

Alright! So There's good news and bad news. The good news is you can absolutely upgrade your computer in a variety of ways. You can even give yourself a dedicated graphics card! The bad news though, is that doing so probably won't be cheap. It might be better to buy a new laptop, or start putting together a desktop rig for yourself. I'll let you be the judge though! Here we go!

RAM: Upgrade from 4GB to 8GB

This would definitely speed up your computer. *GB is the minimum I recommend to anyone, regardless of what they are using the computer for. 4GB of RAM is the minimum necessary for a modern operating system to function, so doubling to 8GB will give you some very noticeable improvement.
I generally stick with Crucial.com RAM for upgrades. They're affordable, have good customer service, and have never steered me wrong before. You have two choices for an 8GB upgrade from them. A standard 8GB module and a Ballistix 8GB module. The latter is supposed to be higher quality, but I'm not really familiar with the differences, nor do I think it's worth the extra money. I'd go with the standard.

Hard Drive: Upgrade to Solid State or Fusion Drive

Upgrading the hard drive won't improve gaming performance, but it will make everything you do on your system faster overall. Not 100% sure, but I think your computer has a 500GB drive in there right now. decent space, but bare bones performance. Upgrading to a Fusion Drive or SSD will give you a huge performance jump. SSDs are the fastest drives out there, but assuming you don't want to decrease your disk space, your going to have to pay the premium. SSHDs aka Fusion Drives offer the best of both worlds; they add flash storage to a standard drive, and optimize performance by putting the system files and most frequently used files and programs on the flash section. Huge performance boost for a MUCH lower price than an SSD. I love these things, and definitely recommend one if budget is an issue. To upgrade your drive, you'll need to either have a backup you can restore to the new drive, or clone your existing hard drive to the new drive beforehand. My recommended method of doing this is by buying a hard drive enclosure. It's super affordable, and will let you repurpose your old hard drive as an external drive or backup drive when you're done.

CPU, Motherboard, and GPU:

Ok, here's where everything gets complex. The RAM and Hard Drive are easy upgrades, but while they will definitely speed things up, they won't help with gaming performance as much as this will. Your processor is trying to handle running the computer and running the games at the same time, and since it's not a great processor, it can't do that very well. Upgrading the processor allows your computer to do a lot more at once, and adding a GPU essentially gives games their own dedicated processor to work with. You'll see huge gaming performance boosts by going this route. Here's the trouble though: Your CPU is integrated in the motherboard. The only way to upgrade it is by swapping in a new motherboard with a better integrated processor. The silver lining here is that your computer model line had several motherboard options, both with more powerful CPUs as well as dedicated integrated GPUs. This means that by buying a new motherboard, you could upgrade your CPU, add a GPU, or both!
Here's the problem though. These motherboards are hard to find, expensive, or both. Parts-People.com has the listings and Dell Part numbers for several upgrades to your system, both with and without NVidia GPUs.

No GPU:
i5-4210U 1.7GHz - 6YPRH |
i5-5200U 2.2GHz - THVGR |
i7-4510U 2.0GHz - 7G1CD

With GPU:
i5-4210U 1.7GHz - 1P4HG |
i5-5200U 2.2GHz - T7TC4 |
i7-4510U 2.0GHz - CHXGJ

As you can see...pricey AND sold out. But at least this gives you a references. You may also notice that the ones with NVidia GPUs actually say they are only compatible with models that already had a discrete GPU...that's not actually true. I double checked with one of their technicians; all you'd need would be a replacement fan/heatsink. The one in your system only covers the CPU. The new one would cover both the CPU and the GPU. Fortunately, this part is inexpensive, both on the Parts-People site and on eBay.
Speaking of eBay, I think it's the best option for finding one of these motherboards. I did find the best version of the bunch for sale, but they're still quite pricey. There is another option though. By watching eBay for used Dell Inspiron models that have the motherboard you need, you might be able to find and win an auction for a whole computer at a far lower price point than the motherboard alone. As it turns outYou'd need to look for keywords like processor speed, and hope that if you tactfully asked if it said "nvidia" somewhere, the seller would understand what to look for. It gets risky, but you might even find auctions for damaged versions being sold for parts. Idiot cracked his screen? Motherboard's probably ok! Idiot spilled beer all over the computer...avoid that one. You wouldn't be restricted to Inspiron 15 (3542) either. As it turns out, these boards were used in Inspiron 14 (3442) and Inspiron 17 (5748) models as well. Definitely helpful if you go that route. Hell, with nothing wrong with it and at the right price point, you might find a whole new computer this way!

Speaking of a new computer...we come to my final point. Cost and worth. If you were to buy the RAM, Fusion Drive, external enclosure, i7 + GPU Motherboard, and Fan/Heatsink right now, you'd be looking at something like $350. Not terrible in the grand scheme of things, especially considering the fact that you could buy them at separate times, upgrading in stages as budget allows. However, the Wirecutter's pick for a budget laptop is $550 on Amazon, and would match or exceed the performance of everything above with no hassle or downtime. Just something to consider!

Phew! That was a lot. Hopefully it's helpful information, and gives you an idea of your options. Let me know if you have any questions!

This Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG costs $550, has a Core i5, 8GB DDR4 RAM, a 256GB SSD, and a Nvidia GeForce 940MX. This laptop should run Premiere Pro CC and Overwatch fine. However, if you're going to be gaming on a laptop, might I recommend a notebook cooling pad to go with it, as I don't know specifically how hot that Acer laptop gets, but laptops typically get pretty hot while gaming. I speak from experience, I used to play League of Legends on a laptop that eventually got too hot to touch, and I know people who's non-gaming oriented laptops get quite hot while gaming.

I play primarely on a desktop, but it runs on my 6 year old gateway laptop barely. It's a gateway with a 2.5 ghz processor, 4 gb of RAM, HDD, and onboard graphics. It's barely playable on that.

I would reccomend something with an i5 2.7 ghz or better, 8 gb of ram, and an SSD.

You will probably be on the high side of your listed budget but it's doable.

I doubt they even sell laptops with less than 8GB of RAM, but dont get one with less than 8GB of RAM.

As for other specs, well that is going to be determined by your budget (which is small).

If I was going to recommend one it would probably be this. It is a tiny bit over your budget, but worth it. It has an Nvidia GPU and a 256GB SSD which is great.

u/tothemountaintop · 2 pointsr/EngineeringStudents

The solid state drive is nice but 128GB seems like it would go pretty quickly when engineering software is involved.

Edit: If I was getting another laptop, I would seriously consider this one https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4. A dedicated graphics card and larger SSD would be worth it imo.

It is slightly past your $500 mark, but it will boot and load everything lightning fast, and it would be able to handle light gaming at 1080p (DOTA, CS;GO, etc) and even possibly titles like GTA V on low settings 720p.

But, I don't know how gaming will be on it.

600 bucks after taxes and it has incredible value for the price. I got mine about a week ago and it runs LoL great on the highest settings. I have it capped at 80 Fps and it never drops below 79, even when I have other shit going on.

Also runs Overwatch well, though I haven't tried Overwatch on medium settings because I don't feel the need too. I think the graphics look fine on low.

There is the [Acer Aspire E 15] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4), but it exceeds the budget slightly. Modern games often take 40 GB each, so if you are going to install several of them you may be better off with the HDD.

The SSD speeds up the loading of Windows/applications/games, but once things are up and running it does not have that much of an impact. For gaming in particular an SSD does not really increase FPS.

u/AdityaRav · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

In that case, you should probably consider Acer aspire E15 i7 version.

It has the latest i7-6500u processor combined with a decent 940MX graphics that'll be suitable for your gaming requirements.
You can also buy an 8gb ram for about 20-30$ and add that because I think it'll enhance the capabilites of your laptop to handle your intensive app requirements.

It also has a great battery life and an SSD with a good build that has been appreciated by the reviewrs

Any new laptop can play Minecraft, even cheap low end ones. If money is an issue, something like this could easily play minecraft: Amazon Link. If they want to go with something better: Amazon Link 2 or Amazon Link 3. However, neither of these are gaming laptops. If you could point me in the direction of a laptop like that I am definitely interested. The problem is that she was looking for something around 13" and lightweight (macbook air was the original plan) so that can get pretty expensive quickly. I found something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DT4A2R4/ref=crt_ewc_title_gw_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER but it seemed like a lower-end i5 to me.

This is the laptop I'm using. I got it for $450 on sale and it runs the game at a solid 60fps on minimum graphics. The SSD is invaluable for load times and the 940 graphics card (though it's weak) does let the laptop sit at 60fps. This is probably the cheapest you can get 60fps ffxiv.

I know it's an i5 vs. an i7 but it has more dedicated RAM, I've heard some decent things about the 940MX, and it has an SSD. Also the i5 in the new generation and runs at the same GHz at my current i7.

Hey guys. So since I've gotten my new CMOS Camera, trying to run software on my Mac/Windows BootCamp has been a nightmare. I am thinking about just pulling the trigger and getting a PC strictly for acquisition, mainly to run SGP. Processing will still most likely be done on Mac with Pixinsight.

So I am no PC expert, but I believe I would need around 4-8 GB RAM (For fast download) and at least one USB3 port. I found these two cheap options. Please let me know if you think either of these would work, or maybe suggest something else. Also, I am using a ZWO ASI1600MM and a ZWO ASI120MC for my guide cam. Both use USB3, but I guess I could connect my guide came to my main cam. But maybe I need 2 USB3, but I guess I could also use a hub, correct?

First option, 8 GB RAM, 1TB, but 2 USB2 and only one USB3, do I need more than one USB3? I know I can use hubs too - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01CGGOZOM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491789626&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A7817224011&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=hp+laptop&dpPl=1&dpID=41Yv8ZhfQbL&ref=plSrch

Second option, cheaper, only 4GB RAM, but 2 USB3 and 1 USB2 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XSLZR69/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1491790009&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=hp+laptop&psc=1&smid=AV5VC8NZQFXC6

Edit, third option: 8 GB RAM, 256 SSD, 3 USB3 (One C port, what does that mean?) and one USB2. Seems like this might be the best option actually. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8

Here is a extremely new laptop that can run recent games as long as you are willing to turn the settings down to medium with 45-50 fps. It has a 940MX graphics card and a ssd built in. It can run games better than some $1000 laptops can and has very little to no bloatware.

If you want better performance, then get a laptop with a 960M or 950M graphics gard. I still highly suggest the laptop above as it is very cheap for a laptop that can play any game as long as you are ok with a lower framerate and graphics settings. You can probably find a better laptop in that is around 800 dollars, but i highly suggest this if you want a cheap laptop and are ok dealing with 45-50 fps on medium.

I think I will be going with this Acer Aspire laptop (Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG). The one I linked was similarly priced, but pretty much out of stock so I assume it's been phased out. This one is only $550 which seems pretty cheap to me. It has a 940m graphics card, making it not the greatest for gaming, but as I said in my original post I already have a desktop gaming PC. 256gb SSD, 8 gigs of ram and it has space to add another drive and another ram stick. States 12 hours battery life, but doubt it will get that much, but better then other laptops I saw saying only 4 hours.

Overall I think this sounds pretty good. Added bonus that you can buy it with an Amazon bag and mouse for only $25 more. On second thought the reviews for the laptop bag seem nasty and they can rip and unclip, so I think I might skip the laptop bag deal.

it's a pretty decent laptop around the price range you want. It does have a drive bay open so you can drop a secondary drive in when you can afford it. As far as power, it's not super powerful, but it has a lot of bang for the buck. It's also one of the top sellers on Amazon for good reason, it's entirely decent in most categories.

u/khodbros · 1 pointr/buildapc

My friend asked me to help him out in picking a laptop for his uncle. The purpose of this laptop will mainly be for general use, work and light-medium gaming. Because we live outside of the US, we wanted to know if it will be worth it to spend more on shipping to buy one from Amazon or to get one from a PC store near us. I found one that fits the budget of ~$600 on Amazon and one at a store over here. This is the one from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_api_QMCkybTK0QZZQ

The one we found at the store costs $780 and has the following specs:

i5 5200U 2.2 GHz
8GB DDR4 RAM
1 TB SSHD
15.6" FULL HD
AMD R9 128 bit 2GB VRAM GPU

I'm guessing the GPU in question is the 375m or 370m.

What I wanted to know is which one would be better? Will the AMD GPU be better than the GT 940MX? If he gets the one from Amazon he will have to buy a second HDD as a 250GB SSD will not cut it do that's extra that needs to be spent. Personally I'm leaning towards the one from Amazon. What do you guys say?

u/aroach1995 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Unless you download movies or thousands of EMU games or over 50 modern games, you don't need 1 TB HDD.

I'd go for this https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-Laptop-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4

comparing part by part, the Acer is better in every aspect, AND it costs less.

btw: the 256 GB SSD is actually better if you don't plan on downloading tons of music, movies, or modern games. The SSD will load things much faster

you can also add on a 1 TB HDD later on for a low price, the laptop I've listed above is very upgradeable in that sense. You will be fine on storage for at least a year though with 256 GB

At the $500 mark, I found this Acer Notebook with an i5-6200U, GTX 940MX, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD

At $700-800, which I think is the sweet spot for budget mobile gaming, there is this Dell with an i5-6300HQ, GTX 960M, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD.

u/malvinvnv · 1 pointr/laptops

u/SingularityRS · 1 pointr/runescape

You're very limited with what you can get for that budget. Laptops are more expensive than desktops. To get a laptop equal in performance to a desktop, you have to spend at least twice more.

You're likely going to have to settle for a laptop with an integrated graphics chip instead. Finding a capable laptop that has both a decent processor and a dedicated GPU is going to be really tough unless a miracle happens and it goes on sale.

Increasing your budget by $100 would put you in reach of a dedicated GPU. Is that not possible?

This is the laptop in question: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-Laptop-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1482502812&sr=1-3&keywords=NVIDIA+940MX

The only issue with this is storage. It only has a 256GB SSD. While SSD's are faster than traditional hard drives, you won't have as much storage. I believe you can buy external storage devices, though.

This seems to be an example of what you can get for your budget: https://www.amazon.com/HP-i5-5200U-Processor-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B01L9KC8DG/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1482503312&sr=1-8&keywords=intel+i5+laptop

The problem is integrated graphics. I'm not sure how good the Intel HD 5500 is when it comes to running NXT but upping the GPU may not be possible for your budget. Looking around, this combo seems to be generally what your money can buy.

There's probably other sites to buy from, but I trust Amazon the most + they deliver quickly if covered by Prime.

u/Daxiongmao87 · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

How much you looking to spend? Because acer is selling this for 550 which is a good price. The ram is upgradeable to 32gb ddr4 I believe. The monitor tablet thing shown in the OP is about $300 alone, not including the console.

And anyone who buys a "gaming" laptop is either a fucking idiot or knows they're spending way more than its worth because its marketed as "gaming".

You get a decent laptop and actually look at the specs.

Something like this would happily run skyrim with some enhancements.

And this is ignoring the fact that most people who buy a console will also have some form of laptop or desktop computer for their work/studying or just for general use.

If someone puts their "computer budget" and their "games console budget" together, they can get a system which will play games better than the console and be better for their other stuff too.

That is better, but you still run into integrated graphics which are extremely inferior to dedicated graphics.

On the product page, scroll down to "Product Features." About halfway down that list it shows "Intel HD Graphics 620." These are integrated graphics. This means the CPU is doing what a dedicated GPU would normally do.

If you see Nvidia "something" or ATI Radeon "something" these companies produce dedicated graphic cards.

I did a quick search on Amazon and found these:

Acer Aspire E5

ASUS 2-in-1

These might not be the best laptops for you, but it gives you an idea. In the names of the devices, it lists a Nvidia GeForce 940MX. Sometimes stores like Amazon, Newegg, or BestBuy might list the PC as having integrated graphics or dedicated, but it is always best to rely on your own knowledge.

Btw yes the Dell is usually almost $700 but my local store has it on sale for around $500

Thank you for the suggestion. Is there a difference between the ASUS and this [Acer] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B01CGGOUJM)? I just noticed it when I was searching on Amazon

u/Kijafa · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You might wanna look at the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG. It's the cheapest laptop I could find with a dedicated graphics card. It's only a 940M but it's better than integrated graphics.

Plus it's on sale today on Amazon (in the USA at least).

I'm also considering the Aspire E5-575G-53VG now

u/Chowda289 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

There is also this deal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B01K1IO3QW

You can also upgrade the ram to 32 GB and put in a 2.5 standard sata drive.

u/Ejmp · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thoughts on the 940MX for Overwatch? I'd like a 950M but I've found this to be intriguing:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=twister_B01G2C1YY0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Not the best form factor but hits targets for screen quality, battery, ram, SSD, all for only $500. Biggest potential issue I see is the graphics card being a touch under powered. I suppose the HP is only about $50 more, but I haven't been very impressed with HP build quality in the past.

u/IgnoreMyName · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Asked the same thing. Both the 5341 from Newegg and 53VG from Amazon are selling for $40. The only difference I know of is that the VG has a bigger SSD. Other than that, I don't know the difference and which to pick.

Additionally, is the 57A4 worth the extra $40 over the other two? Going to buy one for my sister first thing tomorrow morning but don't know which to pick. Parents would like to stick to $500 budget but if the A4 is worth the extra $40 on top of the $530 the other two laptops are going for, it wouldn't be a problem.

She's going to be using it primarily for HW, streaming, video calling (Skype/Hangouts), listening to music (Spotify), and playing Minecraft. Sims 4 and other games would be a plus. She won't be taking it anywhere so power cable will always be there should she need to stay plugged in.

Thanks in advance!

u/Chill10003 · 1 pointr/computers

You can probably find a decent laptop for $500. It won't have a DGPU, but if you buy a modern one the integrated graphics should be good enough for very basic gaming.
This way you won't have to worry about the cost of a monitor and such.
Here is one for $550 that has a dedicated graphics card if you really want one, although it's not very good.
If you need under $500, here is one without a dGPU but should do a decent job.

This is the laptop I got and it worked great the whole time with great battery life. Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG Laptop, 15.6 Full HD (Intel Core i5, NVIDIA 940MX, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Windows 10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CXOBCb7KHGRMX
I did have to add a hard drive to it but that was easy and not too expensive.

u/honestlyliar · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG

Pros:

  • Dedicated GPU (GeForce 940MX) (rare at this price point) albeit I don't see this being important

  • 15" FHD screen

  • Optical drive

  • RAM upgradeable

  • M.2 SSD with open 2.5" drive bay for an extra HDD

  • Backlit keyboard

    Cons:

  • Ever seen that picture of Torvalds flipping off NVIDIA? That still applies (albeit I've heard various people using nouveau nicely and the proprietary drivers are pretty okay-ish) (you could theoretically only use the integrated graphics but I don't recommend that)

  • Small-sized SSD is likely going to be difficult to dual-boot on unless you store very little data

  • SSD is SATA, not PCIe

  • Bloatware (very much worth reinstalling/uninstalling applications when you buy it)

  • 5.3 lbs, heavier than your current laptop

    Unknowns (for me, probably discoverable):

  • Don't know about the wireless chipset, avoid if Broadcom

    ASUS F556UA-AB54 NB

    Pros:

  • Intel Integrated Graphics as far as I can tell, which generally work well with Linux (albeit not very powerful)

  • 15.6" screen

  • Optical drive

    Cons:

  • Intel Integrated Graphics are generally not that great

  • SSD is small

  • 5.1lbs, lighter than previous entry but still heavier than current

    Unknowns:

  • Any kind of upgrades

One more thing. Could you explain the difference between this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B01N8SI9I7
and the laptop you recommended besides the hard drive space? I know this may seem obvious but was just curious since this one has more reviews and details about it on Amazon. I am relatively ignorant about laptop specs.

Hey, I'm not a "geek" and am just an average joe when it comes to laptops. But based on my 'research' for some gaming laptops lately, the Acer Aspire E15 for $630 (if you don't mind) seems to be a pretty good deal. Again, I don't know much about laptops hence why I used "seems."

u/Hunterkidd · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thanks for the suggestion! The Acer looks pretty nice, but looking at 2 of the links showed this laptop as well as this one. The main differences I see are a SSD vs a 1 TB Hard Drive, and a difference in the battery. Obviously leaning towards the Newegg version because it's cheaper right now. My main concern is my old computer is slow and overheats quickly, so I'm looking for a laptop that runs well and has a quiet fan. Also, are Acer products good? I'm looking for a laptop that will last a decent amount of time, and I don't know very much about Acer products. Thanks again!

While it's storage leaves something to be desired, it most likely won't be an issue. I think I'm going to buy this one, as it's specs look pretty nice, but I figured I'd ask before I spend that much money.

u/ariwake · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

This depends on the usage that you´re going to give said laptop. If you want to game and absolutely need a laptop then by all means get one.

If its going to be for general usage then something like the Acer e15 which is a beast for general usage although its a bit on the expensive side. What i would recomend (as Im no laptop expert by any means) is to ask around here for a laptop that suits your specific needs and around your price range.

EDIT: Just saw the edit to your main post. I am not familiar with those applications so I can't really give you advice on what to buy. Hope you find what you're looking for.

u/BlackThunda · 1 pointr/wow

That's definitely an improvement but you will probably want to save up and get one with an SSD drive. HDD's will tend to give you problems especially if you travel with it a lot. SSD will save you money in the long run.

Dell 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (6th Gen Intel Quad-Core i5-6300HQ Processor up to 3.2GHz, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, Windows 10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eztYxb1CH6170

That dell has specs you would want to aim for, about $100 more. you get a bigger screen, beefier graphics and an SSD. Not sure how the i5 and i7 stack up but their performance is probably real similar. The dell CPU has a higher boost clock but the i7 has more cores.

Some people say 256gb is too small but I have no problem fitting all my games and work on mine at the same size.

If you video edit or something you'll need a bigger hard drive but snag an SSD and a 950m or higher for sure

You will not find a laptop for under 300 capable of gaming well, at least not without looking at used ones. 500-600 is the minimum when looking for a laptop capable of gaming and even then you will probably have to turn down alot of settings to get good fps. This is the best budget gaming laptop I was able to find.

u/Uzrathixius · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This is on the cheaper end. i5 and a 940mx for 550. You could bump it up to 700 for an i7, but I would not recommend.

This has a better gpu, and a bit higher price. But it's easily up-gradable for ram and storage. There is a version with an i7, for a bit more money.

Right now, the prices seem to be going up on amazon, so you might look elsewhere. I always suggest looking at amazon warehouse, you tend to find good deals there.

You never responded to my questions about what your sister would be needing from a laptop but both of those are bad values unless she absolutely needs a touchscreen.

Here is a better option that has a discrete graphics card that scores higher than the AMD APU but paired with an intel cpu. All with a 256 GB SSD, 1080p screen, 8GB of DDR4, 12 hours battery life. Also it's cheaper.

I'm needing a new laptop for work (computer modeling/animation among other freelance jobs) and the one that works for the task is $600. I currently have a second job at Sears but it will take around a month and a half to come up with that cash and that time is money wasted. I can show proof of employment if needed. The sooner I am able to get the new computer, the sooner I can start working again. I lose clients the longer I wait as well.
I'm looking to get https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0 so it would be ok if you just order the item to my address instead of sending the money. It's $550 but there's $38 tax. So even if you just order the item for me and it comes out to less than $600, I'll still be willing to pay back $700.

My wording is off. Just meant to say that there is an i5 and i7 processor difference. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_4mIGxb8EK9A52

I just got the Acer Aspire E 15. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far. I've played Payday 2, Portal, and Call of Juarez, and I haven't had any issues. I think it was worth it for $550, just had to use my external hard drive thanks to the limited internal SSD...

  • 6th Generation Intel Core i5-6200U Processor (Up to 2.8GHz)
  • 15.6-inch Full HD Display
  • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX with 2GB DDR5 VRAM
  • 8GB DDR4 Memory, 256GB SSD
  • Windows 10 Home; Backlit Keyboard
  • Up to 12-hours Battery Life; 6-cell Li-Ion (2800 mAh) Battery
u/PsionicKitten · 1 pointr/pathofexile

My friend just got this and it's a world of difference between his last computer. The only difference between the two is the amazon one has twice the SSD and better resolution on the screen.

But it's still nothing compared to a desktop... which even my VR capable machine still gets frame rate drops. I'd say we get similar performance, and probably will stay that way until they refine the performance more.

u/UniqueWisdom · 1 pointr/Overwatch

This laptop? If so, you downscaled the resolution from 1920x1080?

u/Domikonis · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

That Acer laptop is the exact same one I got. This one you linked to. I got it for $350 during black friday, I was pumped.

But anyway, the 940m inside them is the epitome of ehh. I'm able to play War Thunder and Star Wars: The Old Republic on low to medium settings@1920x1080 at 60FPS. If you put the settings on potato, you'll be able to play pretty much anything besides the newest of titles, especially if you like "competitive" games (CS:GO, Dota, League of Legos, Overwatch, etc.). I haven't played any of those on it but I know for sure that it would be able to run any of those without a problem. I was able to run them on my old laptop that had an AMD vision processor and no GPU.

Newer games like Fallout 4 and Doom probably wouldn't work too well on it. Even on the lowest settings you'd probably struggle to get even 30 FPS, but for the price I think it's the best you're going to get for your price point.

Edit: This one looks like it's actually better. It has an SSD, and 940MX, and is cheaper.

Hi. What this

Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6 Full HD, Intel Core i5, NVIDIA 940MX, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, E5-575G-53VG https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UQSLxbJCCSHSJ

u/JunkleJay · 1 pointr/starcitizen

lol that is simple, but I have owned this laptop for some time and sadly lost the recovery disk so even that isn't an option. I might be hopeless unless someone can get the game to run without admin privileges like I said, I think that's just the state of things for me atm. On a side note it is definitely around that time to replace it and I am looking for reasonably priced new ones. Do you have a good eye for judging how well a set of specs could run the game? I am looking at this one right now, https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=zg_bs_13896617011_8

what do you think of this? https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1467648352&sr=1-10&keywords=laptop

A friend recommended me this, he says that the extra SSD is very important. What are your thoughts?

u/smith_x_tt · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

if you can stretch it by 100 USD - http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-7559-laptop/pd

I bought and MSI laptop last year and while it isn't used for gaming it is pretty capable. you may want to look at their offerings or check http://www.productchart.com/laptops/ to help you pick a system.

I would say this laptop seems to meet your needs according to that site. http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4%3Fpsc%3D1%26SubscriptionId%3DAKIAJ76EIXAV3V6D6JEQ%26tag%3Dglobalnetwork-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB01DT4A2R4

This is in the US and a bit above your budget, but great value. Get a second opinion though because idk much.

u/Brownie38 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thanks for your input. I was looking around at other laptops, and this one caught my eye. What do you think about it?

u/InsomniaDays · 1 pointr/Ubuntu

Looking at this laptop from Acer:

Acer Aspire E 15

u/knowledgeisthekey · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

What would be the biggest advantage of the Thinkpad over this? It seems like the Acer would work for me at a lower price point but if I knew, I wouldn't be posting here. Thanks.

u/DaydreamingRobot · 1 pointr/laptops

If you can throw in another 100 dollars you can get this.
Acer Laptop

Its SSD is twice the size, it has a GTX 940MX dedicated graphics card, and a backlit keyboard (according to reviews). That's a huge gain for a little more money.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-575G-53VG-Laptop-Windows/dp/B01DT4A2R4
Not sure if this is in your price range but this one isnt over expensive and its decent. I saw a review on it and it can play games like Overwatch and GTA V or something like that.

u/12121212l · 1 pointr/highschool

Depends on the class. I have computer science and half of my class uses laptops. Don't know much about chromebooks, but I have an Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG which I got for only $280, just need to know where to look.

I recommend /r/laptops or /r/buildapcsales, esp. with black friday around the corner. /r/thinkpads are popular too.

u/Bi9scuit · 1 pointr/DolphinEmulator

Any modern laptop with an Intel i CPU will have a decent stab at Dolphin, GPU not usually required since Intel HD____ on the 6th gen and newer CPUs tend to suffice.

Acer used to make a laptop that would have been perfect (Amazon) but it got discontinued. [Here's](http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7346808?cmpid=GS001&
$ja=tsid:59158|cid:200223050|agid:12488287130|tid:aud-144400486596:pla-338471096573|crid:66128552330|nw:g|rnd:16677567549580904527|dvc:c|adp:1o2|mt:|loc:1006864&gclid=CjwKCAiArrrQBRBbEiwAH_6sNCjDpFMnrzFWhxFsXYA5ebLmhFGusiayZOwje0MzbIyVcDxoFLGgfhoCIRoQAvD_BwE) a similar, not discontinued laptop, and here's a bargain China discount if you live in the US.

Remember that CPU > GPU, always.

u/Jackdaws7 · 1 pointr/pathofexile

So I bought this Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG laptop for $550 last year and have been playing PoE on it ever since. It's honestly been amazing. There are a few times when the FPS drops most noticeably in act 10 templar courts(?) and act 8 with the shield charge boss dude in the baths.

Other than those two horrible areas the game runs smooth at 60-70fps (in parties you drop down to 30 or so). I have the dynamic resolution slider set to 25 and it hardly ever goes off even in groups in beachhead maps. I think there is a slightly better Aspire version with more processing power for like 100bucks more if you want to search for a slight upgrade, but this laptop has been wonderful. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.

u/Royce- · 1 pointr/gadgets

There are better laptops for cheaper prices available in the U.S. than this.

Ex.: Acer Aspire E 15 and Dell Inspiron 7559

u/mestermagyar · 1 pointr/linuxmasterrace

Annyit még kérdezhetek, hogy mennyire fontos a magyar billentyűzet egyetemen? Csak mert jó eséllyel külföldi gépem lesz hogy ne kelljen nagyon 200ezer fölé menni.

(Eddig erre rakom a voksomat: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-575G-53VG/dp/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 )

u/PearElite · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

The one you have linked is not going to play many games, maybe smaller indies that aren't all the graphically intensive. You need something with a dedicated GPU, and at $500 that's a little rough to come by. If you want new you'll have to consider raising your budget by at least $150.

At your price range you'll be looking for something with at least a GT 940m or last year's GT 840m. Try searching your local Craigslist for used options, there are usually some good deals on there.

This one is a bit out the price you specified ($670) but it should play Battlefield and Rainbow 6, just don't get set your expectations really high.

Acer Aspire E5 573G 59C3

*Edit: not sure how I missed this one, but it's only $550 and has a dedicated GPU and an SSD

Acer Aspire E 15 E5 575G 53VG

This has similar specs to the first one, including the same GPU, but is $100 less and it includes a 255gb SSD, pretty good deal if you ask me.
