For your budget and requirements the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 is your best bet. It has the dedicated GPU, i5 processor and a solid 256 GB SSD. The battery life is much higher than the 5 hrs that you wanted. The build quality is very good and this laptop provides great value for its price

  • Display: 15.6-Inches Full HD Notebook 1920 x 1080
  • Processor: i5-7200U
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4 SDRAM
  • Storage: 256GB SSD (HDD can be added)

  • Battery life: 8 hrs+
  • Weight: 5.27 lbs

The discounts are not huge, but both laptops already offered great value for money so the small discounts is just a big added bonus, I will add them as they come if more deals come around

300~400 range Acer Aspire E 15.

  • Intel HD Graphics 620 is the best iGPU you can find for this budget which makes the laptop the best option for light gaming on a very tight budget.

  • Full HD (TN) 15.6 screen, which is very rare for this budget range and great for watching movies/videos.

  • Good upgrades available, can go to 16 GB of ram, and with a little more work than usual you can even fit a SSD on it.

  • USB type C which is another rare thing to find on this budget.

I thought I would give you a little more in depth review, so here it goes.

  • Battery life is from 7 to 10 hours of normal non gaming usage.
  • Backlit keyboard only comes on when you touch the buttons to save battery, it is quite.
  • Easily upgradeable, we recommend you add 4GB stick and a SSD if you have the budget for it and it would turn into a perfect laptop (more so than it already was).
  • Minimal bloat-ware, speakers are above average like what you would expect from a laptop, Trackpad doesn't have separate buttons, but they work well, the outer body has a matte finish to it which makes it feel really good even though it is all plastic and doesn't attract fingerprints easily).

500~550 The Acer Aspire E 15 Not the same model.

  • NVIDIA 940MX which is one of the best for this range but still not great for newer games Benchmark(use the same website to check the benchmarks of the other GPU from the right hand list).

  • 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD both are somewhat standards in 600 range so finding them on 500~ range is somewhat a catch.

  • Advertised battery life of up to 12-hours, Backlit Keyboard.

Here is a little in depth review of it :

  • Same with the cheaper Acer, it is made from plastic, but it feels sturdy, screen comes with anti glare finish so it will work well outside.

  • Battery life is great about 5-8 hours of general usage.
  • Backlit keyboard, quite and comfortable, Trackpad have been getting some mixed reviews, I think it is a software issue, or maybe it is because some people are not used to trackpads.

  • Speakers are good, above average for laptops in this range, the gaming performance is also above average since it is only 940MX but it the best for the budget.

  • Very thin, very quiet (can barely hear the fans), It has room for more ram as well as more SSD, Fingerprint magnet.

Sure,

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LD4MGY4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's not touchscreen but I knew that before I bought it. Absolutely fantastic laptop, haven't had any issues with it. I suspect I'll be using this for at least another 4 years.

Those specs are fine, but for SolidWorks using integrated graphics is going to be painful.

Here is a PC with similar specs but a dedicated graphics card:

Yes I agree the

Acer E15
-----------------
would be the best choice for you in that price range your working with.

u/Michiganders · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you want something a bit more portable, I would highly suggest looking into the HP Envy 13 for $620. It is a pretty well built and solid machine with a new kaby lake i5 processor, 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and HD 620 graphics. It also comes with a 1080p IPS display, a 14 hour advertised battery life, and it weighs in at 2.9 lbs.

Otherwise maybe look into the Acer E15 for $580 which is a bit larger with similar specs and a good battery life. It also comes with a kaby lake i5 processor, 8gb of ram and 256gb SSD. It has a more powerful gpu with a GTX 940MX. It's display is a 1080p TN panel, it weighs in at 5.3 lbs and it has a 12 hour advertised battery life.

For more suggestions to get a better idea of what you're looking for, you can look at my comprehensive list of recommendations here.

u/Sabermawile · 4 pointsr/Smite

I have an Acer E15 or something, gotta find exact model, that can run smite pretty well. It set meback around $500 dollars, and as long as you aren't requiring advanced graphics it should run fine at 70-80 fps. It also runs older titles like csgo and TF2.

Edit: It's 579$ on Amazon

u/The---Technician · 3 pointsr/LaptopDeals

This Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 would be perfect for what you want. It will run games and for travelling , it's incredible 12 hours battery life will be key.

u/tigerbreak · 3 pointsr/laptops

Gaming-capable, new and under 500 dollars is tough.

Worth considering - some BBY and Costco have gift cards you can buy for either eBay or Amazon (with no upcharge) which broadens your horizons a bit.

I'd also consider trying to scratch together an extra 100 to 200, which will make all of the above possible.

if limited to best buy or costco, find the best CPU and largest amount of RAM, followed by the biggest SSD you can find. HD 620 can do a few things (on low quality) but don't expect much more.

This is a good choice if you can get them to consider Amazon, it's new, should last a while and you can do some games like FIFA on it. It's also easy to upgrade

u/rokjinu · 3 pointsr/wow

So the good news is that WoW is not very demanding when it comes to computer specs, but I assume you want to get use out of this laptop in the future as well, so let's look at the recommended specs because those are usually at least still better than the minimum for the next expansion or two. Basically we just want to go down this list and match them to the specs on a laptop, and usually a higher number on something like a CPU, GPU, or RAM is better.

The Recommended Specs
> OS: Windows 10 64-bit with latest service pack

> CPU: Intel Core i5-3330, AMD FX-6300, or better

> GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti or AMD Radeon R7 260X or better

> RAM: 4 GB

OK- Good news is that most every laptop you can get now runs windows 10 64-bit, so that's a really hard one to miss.

As for CPU, how fast your PC can process the information, we're looking at an i5-3330, it isn't super important that you know what that means, just that you want an i5-xxxx where that number is at least 3330 with intel or you'll have to look a bit more for comparisons with ADM just because of how they name their parts.

GPU is easy again, you generally just want something with a 750 Ti (note that this is slightly more powerful than a 750, but anything above 750 should still be fine) or higher with Nvidia, or 260X or higher with AMD.

Then RAM is easy again, just 4GB or more.

I don't know what your price range is, but here are some laptops that fit this build:

MSI GL62M - $800

Acer Aspire E15 - $580

Dell Inspiration 5000 Gaming - $639

Asus P-Series - $499

All of these should do fine, but if you don't need a laptop I would suggest building a desktop. It is much easier to upgrade over time and lets you adapt to what you need it to do instead of having to upgrade the entire laptop.

Here's a link to a build that you could use It's from PC part picker so all of the items here are compatible and will fit together, you can mix and match things to fit what you want. It pulls the lowest prices and shows you where to get parts from with links - $826

>I am considering this one.

>Im only looking to get 30fps+ on low-med settings

Hmm...

The answer is yes. I had to look up relevant hardware comparisons, to what I've tried in the past during the NXT closed betas. It will easily run minimum, and medium at 60fps I'm sure. The i5-7200U (gross. >.>) in that laptop far outstrips my old Core2 Quad Q6600, so that's good. The GeForce 940MX in it wipes the floor with my GT 9600, too - which retained 50fps on high.

Links to comparisons:

  • i5-7200U vs Core2 Quad Q6600

  • GeForce 940MX vs GeForce 9600 GT

So if medium/minimum is all you're aiming for, then it's perfectly fine.

Edit: I just want to say, please keep the laptop off any soft surfaces like carpet or a blanket whilst playing RuneScape. Also, be sure to keep vSync on at all times. Laptops are prone to overheating to begin with, so you don't need RuneScape turning it into your own personal frying pan.

In order to play relatively new games on a laptop you're going to need a laptop with an integrated graphics card (GPU). Unfortunately, gaming laptops in the price range you are looking for are pretty unheard of due to the extra cost of the graphics card.

This is the cheapest I could find with a decent graphics card, although its slightly out of your price range, it's a very good laptop for the price.

Acer Aspire 5 with GeForce 940MX - $579.99
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4

Your other option would be to wait for Nvidia's MX150 cards to be more widely available, the MX150 is quite a bit faster than the 940MX, however its in a similar pricing segment of machines.

Here is a Youtube review by Dave2D reviewing an Acer Aspire 5 with the MX150, he raves about the performance for the price, although I wasn't able to find a current product listing for this machine, i don't think it is on shelves yet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al_5-BDDFPs

Your other option would be to try finding a used laptop online (like off of Craigslist), you can get a significant discount by buying gently used instead of brand new.

u/SaneBRZ · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

> Are AMD processors really that bad?

Yeah, the current ones aren't that great. An AMD A10 is comparable to a dual core Intel i3.

> It's got everything else that I want at only $509.99 after customization

You can get a laptop with an Intel i5 + Nvidia GT 940MX for around $500. Will run the apps and Sims far batter than a laptop with an AMD A10 APU + integrated Radeon R5 graphics (like the HP Pavilion you described in your post).

I would avoid it due to the 1366x768 display and lack of SSD.

I've been doing a lot of research lately. I purchased the Xiaomi Notebook Pro from LightInTheBox yesterday for about $800 ($850 with a $50 Thanksgiving discount). Haven't received it yet but I haven't seen a bad review for it.

However if all you're doing is schoolwork, netflix and Hulu you can do that with a $400 laptop. Something like this or like this Acer may be perfect for what you want to do.

If you want around 40-60 fps at 1080p low settings I would go with the Acer aspire E 15, version with the i5 and 940mx, €599.

There are so many options out there. I personally like HP laptops once you get all their bloatware off, but reviews have been a little mixed for them lately. Acer and Asus have come a long way in the past years and have pretty good reviews.

I found this on Amazon:
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 15.6-Inches Full HD Notebook (7th Gen Intel Core i5-7200U, GeForce 940MX, 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black

It's not super lightweight, but it will play all the games you want and they'll run really well. It comes with a solid state drive, newer "mid-tier" CPU, and 8GB of RAM, so everything else will run great on it, too. Right now it's priced at $579.99, which is within your range with enough leftover to get yourself a nice external hard drive to store things as well.

Hope this helps.

Okay so after some research, that laptop seems to have some problems... Everywhere i've looked it has 2-3 stars. Here are some good laptops for the price, and to be completely honest, the clock speed of the CPU does not matter much for what you're going to be doing with it.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4

Display: 1920x1080

CPU: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

RAM: 8 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB

HP 17.3" HD Premium High Performance Laptop

Display: 1600x900

CPU: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7

RAM: 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM 1600MHz

GPU: Intel Integrated Graphics

HP Notebook 15-ay011nr 15.6-Inch Laptop

Display: 1920x1080

CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5

RAM: 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM

GPU: Intel Integrated Graphics

I would choose between these 3. The integrated graphics doesn't really matter if you aren't going to be encoding with the GPU so don't let that put you down. I would personally go with the first choice just because it's a well rounded laptop. 2.5GHz with a 940MX. But it's entirely your choice! :) Hope this helps!

Your best bet in a low price range is probably gonna be a refurb

edit: Refurb options to think about

Amazon - Lenovo Y50-70 20349 15-inch-Laptop PC ( Intel i7-4710HQ, Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M

Bit dated but it has a decent graphics card for a laptop, only 1 available so it might sell out.

Amazon, Acer Aspire 7200u 940mx

the graphics card is a bit shit, but it's newer than the lenovo.

u/2tb-of-yiff · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Well in that way, you're going to be spending at least $500 for a 980m graphics card. The i7 might bottleneck it, I'm not sure. But in the case that it doesn't, you're looking at $500 to $600 laptops.

This is /r/suggestalaptop's gaming pick for that price point.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502916285&sr=1-3&keywords=acer+940mx

I actually owned this one for a while. The hinges attach directly to the back of the screen case. After a few months, it cracked and eventually broke leaving the laptop unusable. Good thing I got my money back.

So in short, you might actually be better off (hardware wise) going with that Alienware and the best graphics card you can. But laptop upgrading can be tricky. Don't expect it to work without some tinkering from you.

u/kronkifer · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You can't really build laptops. (I think technically there are some you can but it's not worth it)

Since this is /r/buildapc, would you be interested in building a nice desktop and then getting a fairly cheap laptop for carrying around? For $1500 you could build a pretty beast computer and still have room for an alright laptop.

Your uses don't really sound too demanding so if you went for a laptop I really don't think you would need to spend that much. A laptop like this should play those games pretty well. This is actually the same model but with the newer generation cpu. It goes for I think $550 when it's in stock.

You could also ask /r/SuggestALaptop. I haven't looked around too much for the best Cyber Monday laptop deals.

If you do go laptop only then I do recommend getting one with at least a skylake i5, an SSD, and a dedicated graphics card.

u/BigBrain007 · 2 pointsr/lowendgaming
u/Doctor_Candor · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I'd go for dedicated graphics to run Overwatch at a solid 1080p 60 FPS. There have been a number of deals recently within your budget - I highly recommend keeping an eye on subreddits like /r/buildapcsales or websites like slickdeals to catch them when they come.

Edit: The typical recommendation at full price within your budget is this Acer because of the good all around specs for the price. This is what you can expect to play Overwatch at.

u/Romr4t · 2 pointsr/Tekken

Honestly you're better off looking around reddit such as /r/buildapcsales or something similar like /r/laptopdeals

It would also help if you specify what country you're located in, because I've linked Canadians the US newegg site and no dice.

Generally I'd stay away from an AMD video card in a laptop for what it's worth by the way. They perform super poorly, and the 10xx series right now for laptops is just too good to pass up. If you're not scared of going refurbished, you can get tons of decent deals around that price range.

Something like this Acer is a good deal. But again, it really depends on how strict you're willing to follow that budget and/or if refurbished laptops are out of the question. Another good refurb Acer. This other Acer is about the same as the prior mentioned one spec wise but with a more recent processor and an SSD, plus it isn't refurbished if you're scared of issues. Regardless both will still play Tekken just fine(albeit on reduced settings compared to the first one I mentioned).

u/EnguardS · 2 pointsr/laptops

yeah, I really like this deal too!
I was originally planning to buy the $579 Acer Aspire E15 that had the 940mx, but after looking at this, I'm willing to spend the extra $20 for literally double the graphics performance. An IPS display is also an added bonus :D(the other one had a TN Panel).

It's a bit more, but you get a lot more headroom, and can run smooth 60fps most of the time. I was getting solid 60s constantly- albeit running min settings because I preferred it. Mid max settings ran smooth too.
You'll also benefit a lot from the ssd for load times etc.

The laptop was 550 when I got it, but is still best in price range right now.

There's a computer with those stats that is 15.6" and has a 12 hour battery life. It also is $579

Acer Aspire E5-575G

Guy is playing salesman, trying to get you to spend more. Laptop quality is very model dependent. Hard to find anything that's actually bad these days, though. Your choices are mostly between very good and totally amazing.

For $500, this is generally well-regarded and well-specced:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315779

It only really loses on size and weight to fancier options.

Edit: here's how to tell what games will run.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html

Particularly:

www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-620.172256.0.html

For $80 more, this has faster graphics for more serious gaming, but is otherwise the same.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LD4MGY4/

This is about how well it runs games:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-940MX.156033.0.html

The original Portal will probably be blazing fast on either.

u/JetsterTheFrog · 2 pointsr/computers

Could run Runescape, but would be tough. Not a good computer to be gaming on. You want to look for something with a dedicated graphics card. I would also look for minimum an i5 intel CPU and not an i3. It would be hard to find anything under $500 that you would be happy to play games on. THIS might be a better option.

u/thisisredditnigga · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you're dead set on a laptop then this will be his best bet for under $400: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-Generation/dp/B01K1IO3QW

Hard drives and ram are only able to be upgraded on laptops. And that's only for some of them

u/dejjavuu · 2 pointsr/Beatmatch

i just asked about laptops as well, almost bought that same one, and i ended up ordering that ones big brother because of the SSD, more ram and dedicated gpu FOR REKORDBOX DJ.. it's being delivered today woo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LD4MGY4?psc=1

that i3 CPU should be fine, the ram should be fine if ur not multitasking with chrome, although i'd upgrade it. but that slow 5400 HD really needs to be replaced with an SSD if u can. which would put u at 450$ with a 256gb evo ssd then u can use the 1tb for pure storage and the ssd for programs/windows..

I have this Acer Aspire, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LD4MGY4/, I5-7200, GeForce 940MX, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. I paid $600.

The newer version https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=dp_ob_title_ce, Acer Aspire, MX150 graphics (25% more power than the 940MX), I5-8250, still 256GB SSD, still 8GB RAM, still $600. they're advertising a 12-hour battery life but that's probably on the lowest brightness in airplane mode

Easy-access to the guts for quick repairs and upgrades, but the keyboard certainly could be built thicker

u/blarrick · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

It's an okay deal

This is $130 more (not on sale, has gone down to $540, which is $90 more), and has the same specs with a dedicated GPU and an SSD.

I dunno, spending $450 on a laptop that only has a HDD and integrated graphics seems like a bad deal but I do understand that the one I linked is significantly more right now, so I suppose I see the market for it

Hi,

I did a search for you to find the cheapest laptops with a dedicated video card and this is what I got

If you want to play anything now or in the future I strongly suggest you get some basic video card for your needs, a 940MX should be fine. There is even a gaming laptop that you could get Dell 5576 but the processor will be pretty underpowered, sort of like an Intel 7100U. Otherwise my top pick is the Asus X556U/F556U but it's mainly available in Europe. I suppose you could go with the Acer E 15 which has a dedicated video card.

Hello!

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4

Maybe this Acer could appeal to you? The graphics will do what you need and maybe a little more if you ever feel like it. 256 GB of SSD though, if you need more storage keep that in mind. It's a great value overall.

u/cwillard260 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Unfortunately yes, $600 is the max for me. However, your suggestion got me looking at Acer's and I found this Aspire, which is in my price range. I think this would suit me pretty well.

u/gr8pefish · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hi all,

I'm looking for a midrange laptop, about $500, and am thinking about getting the Acer Aspire E 15 for $515, with an i5-7200U/8GB RAM/940MX GPU/GB SSD. Seems like a solid option, and I can upgrade the RAM to 16gb later or add more storage if needed.

I'm also looking at the ASUS VivoBook F510UA for $500 with an i5-8250U/8GB RAM/1TB HDD @5400rpm, as that seems like a good deal as well, especially if I wanted to pay $100 more and install a SSD myself. Reviews seem subpar though.

The nicer option I'm looking at is the HP Pavillion Power for $600 w/ i5-7300HQ/gtx1050 2gb/1TB HDD/8GB RAM. Seems solid, especially since I can, once again, upgrade the ram and ssd if I desire later. A bit more than what I'd like to spend, but it does seem like a good deal.

Use case is mostly programming (for work), with some web and game design so I'd like nice-ish specs (hence my desire to be able to upgrade the ram to 16gb if needed). However, I don't want to go all out on my personal computer, as I may hopefully end up getting employed and have the employer help me with a work machine. Plus I have a sweet desktop for gaming myself already.

Any input is much appreciated.

/u/The---Technician -> you've been on top of it, so hopefully you don't mind a ping for help

u/Cheekee123 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

So I looked up a comparison of the xbox one's gpu
>XBox One: somewhere between a 7770 and 7790

And you're right, a $500 one can.

Sure, it's used, but it is still better. Took me less than 2mins to find, so I'm sure there are better out there around the same price.

Everything but the graphics card would be better on pretty much any laptop, so here is proof that it is superior. I looked around and picked a generous card as an equivalent to the xbone one.

Even this would play rocket league perfectly fine.

u/netniuQ08 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I think I can go as high as $800, as long as I have the comfort of mind that itll last long enough for it to be worth that. I.e. 4 years (that's a reasonable amount, right?) without it being baked enough, or simply pathetic enough that it's now too slow, outdated, underpowered, or damaged for daily use.
Priorities for specs would probably go:
Processor>RAM>SSD>Battery>resolution>Cooling>graphics>weight>size>noise(casual)>noise(intensive)

Priorities for use would go:
Web surfing/researching>schoolwork/writing>watching>using random apps>retro emulation>pc gaming

I don't know what kind of tasks I'll need to do in the future, but right now I'm in simple classes, and my major is biology, not code, art&design, or engineering. I would also focus on Skyrim, indies, and emulation (nes-wii u), more than playing rise of the tomb raider on med/high.
These are some I've been looking at:

So another user pointed out to me that the Walmart version likely has a 720p display. This isn't bad for regular usage and it's even useful if you plan to use the 940MX with games set to 720p but I just wanted to give you a heads up.

The for sure 1080p model is $100 more expensive :/, here is the Amazon link, which I'm too lazy to check to see if it's the same link an earlier poster gave you lol. It has tons of reviews on it and it has an easy accessible HDD and RAM slots.

CPU: i5-7200U
GPU: 940MX (I have seen videos of GTA V running on the 940 at 30fps)

there are laptops around 500 which could run overwatch better than what you have now. something like this would probably run overwatch at at least 30 fps around medium/low settings and something like this would probably be closer to 60 on medium/lower settings even though it is a bit pricier.

Hi. I believe this Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 15.6-Inches laptop will suit your needs. It costs around $570+ and for that price you get a wide range of quality specs for this budget range. It has a good processor which will be more than sufficient for the tasks you would like to perform and a battery life of up to 12 hrs

Hey there. I was about to make a post, but we have nearly identical budget, preferences, and needs for a laptop. So I'm going to piggyback, and link a few of the options I'm considering, and maybe we can both get some more advice.

ASUS C302CA

Samsung Plus

I'm considering these two if I go for a chromebook. You pretty much wouldn't be able to game on these at all due to the OS. The samsung has a built in stylus if you plan to do notetaking with it. They're both lightweight/durable so they seem good for travel. I plan on running crouton for added versatility and coding development. And tbh I like the idea of a polished macbook feel.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4

These are the two windows notebooks I'm considering. The first seems like a hard value to beat, and the price bump on the second seems worthit if you want the faster processor, SSD, more ram (although the first is easily upgraded), and some light gaming capabilities.

Overall, for me the choice is coming down to whether I want the 2 in 1 tablet + touchscreen/stylus notetaking capabilities, added portability, and lighter weight chromebook, or the software versatility and comfort of having a windows notebook I'm more familiar with. Let me know what you think please!

u/HelpfulJColeStan · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

The Acer Aspire E is probably a good option. It's a liiiitle over 5 lbs but can definitely handle light gaming and lots of programs being open, and it has a dvd drive. Plus you can upgrade the ram easily. Good luck though!

u/KoloHickory · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Recommend a laptop with an ssd, and win10 for around $500? Very light gaming (osrs, dont starve, gwent).

Best thing i can find is

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 15.6-Inches Full HD Notebook (i5-7200U, 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cQXKzbT749H20

Comes with a 940mx.

Also found this very under budget. The 32gb storage will suffice

ASUS L402SA Portable Lightweight Laptop PC, Intel Dual Core Processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB Flash Storage with Windows 10 with 1 Year Microsoft Office 365 Subscription https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5E5T48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MRXKzb1SK74D6

Don't know what processor it is though. All it says is "dual core Celeron"

Anyone can find a better laptop?

u/cuddlemonger · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Sorry, this is the 57D4 (I linked the refurbished version in my post) and the 57K is the Walmart one you linked.

u/SnapeWho · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I'm waffling between the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM from the quick picks in the sidebar and the Acer mentioned here

I'm looking for something that can handle normal web browsing, basic video editing, and minor games I play Civiliation, Stardew Valley, Binding of Isaac, mostly casual type games on my laptop. I save Witcher and so on for console. I'm just not sure that Intel i3 and 4gb of memory is enough to handle that.

u/MrBeastshaw · 1 pointr/laptops

CS Major here! I'd suggest this Acer (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501979034&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+e15+e5+575g+57d4).

This offers an SSD over hard drive, backlit keyboard, GPU, and slightly better battery life to compensate for the price difference. Worth it IMO but both are solid options.

u/Technofreakcritic99 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Based on your game selection , a heavy duty gaming laptop is not for you , I would say. You may get angry at me but let me first justify .

I checked the games you have mentioned and mostly they don't require a high-end graphics card or processor to play , like the requirement for Hollow Knight is GTX9800 .

Also since you mentioned that you are going to be deployed soon , buying a mediocre laptop should suffice for now , cause once you return you can buy a better gaming laptop to play with .

But I will give you some models to check out for such as MSI , Dell Inspiron and [Acer] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501957387&sr=1-4&keywords=acer+laptop).

We can probably discuss more details if you require .

Acer Aspire E 15 for the best bang for your buck. Has a 940mx and advertised 12hr battery life.

Acer Swift 3 for more portability. Doesn't have a dedicated gpu but is half as heavy and has an advertised 10hr battery life.

what about this?

u/edit1754 · 1 pointr/DealsCouponsBargains

Don't be fooled by the "Core i7" processor label. This is a dual-core ultra-low-voltage U-series CPU that is near-negligibly faster than the i5-7200U of the same generation. If you need CPU performance for particular software, you need an HQ-series. If you don't, any i5-U should be just as good. This CPU branding considered misleading on Intel's part, and on part of companies who choose these chips over more important things.

The use of this higher-priced chip does come with a cost to other components, in this case that component is the display. 15.6" 1366x768 TN pretty awful for $549 I would say. Low resolution doesn't let you fit much onscreen, and the contrast and viewing angles aren't great either.

Lots of options around this price or cheaper I might suggest instead, depending on your use. For example:

I just bought this a couple of weeks ago, and it's excellent. Best bang for your buck I've ever seen in a laptop. Discrete graphics. 256GB SSD. Optical drive. Hello,

I think your best option by far would be the Acer Aspire E15 (580$)

  • 7th Generation Intel Core i5-7200U Processor (Up to 3.1GHz)
  • 15.6" Full HD Widescreen Comfy View LED-backlit Display supporting Acer Color Blast technology
  • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX with 2GB of GDDR5 Video Memory
  • 8GB DDR4 Memory, 256GB SSD
  • Around 8hrs battery life

It's a solid choice for this budget that has a dedicated GPU which is nice and will be able to run all you mentioned games at decent framerates (LOL at high settings, Overwatch on medium settings).

    Hope that'll help!

u/UberActivist · 1 pointr/AcerAspireLaptops

This might do the trick.... https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494021857&sr=1-2&keywords=Acer+Aspire+E5+940mx

This isn't the exact one I have... I have the previous year's one (which has 6th gen skylake i5 instead of a 7th gen kabylake) and it runs Overwatch on the dGPU on low setting between 50-80 FPS depending on the conditions of the game. I've also been able to run GTA V on low-ish settings. It only comes with a 256 GB HDD but you're able to open up the bottom easy-access panels to find a completely empty SATA port where you can add in an extra hard drive if you need it (but you'll need some way to secure it in place).

There may be better options in this price range though, but I've had the previous year's model of this laptop and thought it worked well. Currently typing this suggestion on it.

Acer Aspire E5 with a Geforce 940 MX (2 GB GDDR5 variant). It is under $600 and it has the fastest GPU for this price.

The Geforce 940 MX GDDR5 is twice as fast as the Intel HD 620. It may still not be enough to run games fluently at high resolutions and settings, but it is a step forward. It can play most games at 720p low 30-40 fps. Slightly better then the desktop Geforce GT 730 GDDR5.

What do you think between these two ACER models? Newegg is having a sale and it looks to me like the difference is the 1TB HDD vs 256 SSD. Were there other differences? Would it be feasible to buy and install an SSD for $100 and then have both drives? And how hard would that be?

  1. Acer #1

  2. Acer #2

I'd like SSD, but if everything else is equal and I could buy one to install after, I'd be ok with that.
u/AOCPS · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I got two options for you:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575G-57D4-15-6-Inches-Notebook-i5-7200U/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1509670347&sr=1-4&keywords=laptop&dpID=41HfDkXXyeL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

This Acer laptop has specifications of $1,000+ ultrabooks, yet only costs $550. This is because it has a fast Intel Core i5 processor, a fast 256 GB SSD (and if it's too small, you do get a free trial of OneDrive), 8 GB of RAM (pretty much enough to run multiple applications), and a GeForce 940MX graphics chip (which many computers over $1,000 don't have). Don't expect battery life to be amazing on this laptop, but it is replaceable and you can swap it out for a bigger one.

https://www.amazon.com/Asus-Transformer-T300CHI-Touch-Screen-Processor/dp/B01AIRSTVG/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1509670382&sr=1-8&keywords=asus+transformer+mini

This Asus 2-in-1 used to cost $1,000+ in 2015, but now it only costs around $450. It is made out of brushed dark blue alloy unlike the Acer and has a vibrant IPS 12.5-inch 1080p display. This is a touchscreen, meaning you can do written notetaking on it and drawing. You can detach it if you want to watch movies without the keyboard (like an iPad), but it still has a fast Intel Core M processor, 4 GB of RAM (still plenty enough to run multiple applications), a 128 GB SSD (faster than the Acer, but OneDrive is there for extra storage), and a good battery life (around 7 hours of regular use).

hey man - with black Friday approaching, I a probably going to pull the trigger on a laptop in the days ahead and was wondering if I could tap you for some more knowledge....

Is there anything I need to be aware of in terms of the laptop's audio output so I ensure I am able to properly interface with club/lounge/gallery PA systems? I don't foresee myself DJing per se (only performing my tracks via ableton), so probably don't need a headphone line.

Also, could you suggest a good piece of hardware to launch ableton clips with some assignable nobs etc? I have a first gen Push but would like something more suited for performing....

EDIT: will all windows laptops around $800 come with the same quality audio card? what do you think of this XPS on sale? (will supposedly be $800 on black Fri). 128GB SSD, seems kinda small, no?:

I have another question, if you don't mind! In previous posts I've seen people comparing the Acer Aspire E15 E5-575G-57D4 to the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM.

Again, I'm a complete newbie to comparing computer specs for gaming, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. If I add a Crucial MX300 275GB M.2 SSD and a Ballistix Sport LT 4GB to the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM, I will be around $500. For the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4, without adding anything, I will be paying about $550.

My question is, which option is better? $50 is an insignificant difference, so I'm just looking for the best specs for the money. Thank you, again, for answering my questions, your advice has been a big help!

Oops: I posted affiliate links in my last post, so I've deleted it and reposted.

well for 500 you could get https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LD4MGY4/
which is probably a bit better in raw performance than your M6.
In general i don't advise fixing laptops that cost less than 1500 because it usually isn't a great investment.

u/i-know-not · 1 pointr/Amd

ah, I knew not that you wanted to restrict the comparison to ULV.

My notebook (similar graphics performance with Haswell ULV) when I got it: ~$500. Though of course, now we're onto quad cores.

8250U+MX150 (175% performance vs 940MX) 4.63lbs $700

7200U+940MX 5.27lbs $550

8250U+MX150 17" 6.12lbs $900

8250U+940MX 4.4lbs $780

8550U+MX150 3.42+lbs $900

Unfortunately there aren't laptops with 1050 or better graphics that have a ULV processor - it would be folly to make that kind of pairing.

But here's an example of a $950 laptop that, while having a 45W processor and a 1050, is lighter & thinner than the HP Envy x360

I've included weight here - ultimately the point of the ULV chips is to make laptops light and thin. Indeed, some of the laptops in this list are not light and thin despite having ULV processors. But I want to emphasize that laptop in the last link. Compared to the HP Envy which uses only ULV processors, it's lighter and thinner and better battery life. Yet fits much higher CPU and GPU performance than a 8550u+940MX (You're looking at 3x graphics perf). It's not a ULV CPU but it is as thin, light, and long lasting as most ULV laptops; why would you restrict yourself to ULV rather than this, unless you really hate Lenovo?

This is the one I'm talking about. Is this the cheapest option there is for what I need? Thanks!

I use an Acer Aspire E5 with a 256 GB SSD, 8 GB ram and Nvidia mx940 it was the best spec laptop for the least amount of money I could find. There is an extra spot to add ram and a second hard drive so you can upgrade it later down the line-- I added 4 GB ram and a 1 T HDD to mine. The display is a kinda shitty TN panel, but I upgraded to an IPS display, it's really easy to pop the old display off. Backlit keyboard and "12 hours" of battery life (I actually get around 5-6 hours). Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 15.6-Inches Full HD Notebook (7th Gen Intel Core i5-7200U, GeForce 940MX, 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LD4MGY4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_05zhAb3ZRGYFH

I'd say this since i owned it before... it shouldn't overheat that badly

How could you compare the W650KK1 with the G4600 processor to this laptop?

u/Heretic04 · 1 pointr/laptops

In my opinion, HP is the worst mainstream laptop you could buy.

This laptop fits your budget:

And I highly suggest it. I have the model before this one and I'm very happy with it, despite it's low cost but it fits most of your criteria. It has a 1080p display and a decent CPU and it also has a discreet GPU which most laptops in this price range don't have.

The trackpad, although needs a little more sensitivity, works really well with Windows 10 precision trackpad drivers so all the Windows 10 gestures work really well, except pinch to zoom. That still sucks.

As far as the build quality, it's pretty sturdy for a $500 dollar laptop. You shouldn't be disappointed.

Sorry about that, I meant this one that you said is a great choice
though you did say that this one was good if you wanted to save some money.
I was just wondering if i should put out the extra 50~ish dollars for the other one or if the difference was negligible.
Thanks!

The three that instantly come to my mind are the Lenovo X1 Carbon, the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition, and the Macbook Air.

A professor once told me that the Macbook Air was more than plenty for the computer science student. I personally think they are a waste of money, but I always find myself double-checking to make sure that is still the case.

For something more modest, there is the Acer Aspire E or the Lenovo 720s.

Hey guys, quick tech question. Would you think that this Aspire E laptop would be able to run rainbow 6 on lowest settings? It has a 940MX graphic card

Your best option would be the Acer Aspire 5. It has an i5-8250U, MX150, 256GB SSD, 1080p 15in display at $599.99 on Amazon, however its not in stock yet.

However if you don’t want to wait for it to be back in stock, you could resort to the cheaper model, which has an i5-7200U with a GTX 940MX at $514.99 on Amazon

If you took 5 seconds to look, there are multiple. Theres an acer laptop for 550 with Intel dual core and Nvidia gpu that shits on Amd apus, that laptop would be better on cpu and gpu than this $800 trash

579 for that + 256gb ssd and 1080p screen 8gb ram
