There are gaming laptops across the spectrum from $500 up to $2300. While filling out the sidebar form would yield the best recommendation, the Asus N550JK is honestly the best pick at $1000. The Nvidia GeForce 850M is a mid-range card that should do well for most things, and the laptop itself is a solid piece of metal. Definitely the best thousand-dollar laptop on the market (at the price of minimal portability).

$500 : Acer Aspire E5 571G : Very low end. Not great perfomance.
$750 : Lenovo Y40 : Surprisingly good performance and a good budget pick as the little brother to the Y50.
$1000 : Asus N550JK : Best Value or whatever
$1250 : Asus UX 303LN : Starting to get much better portability in exchange for some performance.
$1500 : Gigabyte P34Gv2 : Best laptop that combines portability and power in exchange for a terrible (4 hrs) battery.

Above this are the Razer Blades and MSI GT lines. I know nothing of these realms besides their superiority.

The Acer Aspire E5-571G has a GT 820M and i3-4030U for ~$500.

However, if you check this list (it's a work in progress, excuse the missing images and descriptions), the 6th option down is a Lenovo Y40 for $669. That would give you a 1080p display, CONSIDERABLY more powerful graphics, a better CPU, more RAM, much better build quality, and good battery life. If you can swing the extra cash, get it, it's more than worth it.

I'm completely ignorant of your financial situation, but the way I look at it is how much something costs per year. A $500 laptop that will last you 2 years is much more expensive than a $650 laptop that will last you 3-4.

$500/2 years = $250 per year
$650/3-4 years = $216-$162 per year.

Not to mention how huge the quality of life improvement is with a 1080p display (much more screen space/more crisp images), hybrid SSD (faster start up), more RAM (much faster multi tasking/general performance, chrome often eats 150-200mb per tab), build quality (longer life cycle of machine), etc.

:) this kind of beer is my latest purchase. took 2 months. all I do on Swagbucks is the Passive Apps. you can turn on this video playing app and just let it play for an hour or two for 30-40 cents. earning like $2.0 a day per account.(there are 5 apps)

EDIT: i use PerkTV also.

If you can shell out 50 bucks more, you can get something with a dedicated GPU, which would help.

Acer Aspire E5-571G-38VF:

  • 15.6 inch, 1366x768p display
  • Intel i3-4030U + 4 GB of RAM
  • 500 GB HDD
  • Nvidia GT820M with 2 GB of GDDR3 RAM
  • Price: $499

Best laptop for your money. It will run it at 60 fps for sure.

Or if you want to save some more dolla you can get this guy.

It's has AMD APU. The gpu is equivalent to nvidia 710m. It will still run WoW and other games on low. But the top laptop will be more energy efficient and with a more GPU power(not by much 20%). It's up to you if you want to spend $100 more.

EDIT: Here are some games that will run with the $399 model (fps and settings).

This might work.

The Acer Aspire E5-571G-38VF is a good choice. Acceptable processor, dedicated laptop GPU, it would run San Andreas very well, and even some newish games at low-medium settings.

Although I don't like recommending them in most cases, try sites like Cyber Power or iBUYPOWER around a holiday. I got my laptop for just under $800, and it runs most games pretty well on medium settings. (Higher for some games.)

My boyfriend and I have both had bad experiences from Cyber Power, and have friends who loved iBUYPOWER, so I'd try them first.

However, currently with them not having any sales, the cheapest I could find on sites like this was still around $800.
