HP offered 14" touchscreen 1080p in 2014. Pretty tepid market response, and I believe they were discontinued.

Looks like the Acer 15" currently comes with touchscreen in Full HD.

Hi,

I also agree that Chrome OS is a good fit, it teaches them decently well how to use the Internet which is a bulk of learning technology in my opinion. As a user of both Chrome OS for school and Windows 10 for my own stuff, I can say that Chrome OS is super user friendly.

I would recommend a touchscreen chromebook, like the Acer Chromebook 15. It has:

  • Intel Pentium N4200 4-core processor

  • 4 GB of RAM

  • 32 GB eMMC storage

  • 1080p 15.6" IPS touchscreen display

  • Weight of 4lbs and battery life up to 12 hours

    This laptop runs Chrome OS.

As for battery life, that is pretty realistic having to say that nearly all Chromebooks have a great battery life. I'd consider it to be portable, but it is a 15.6" device which could be a bit large. The laptop has an aluminum chassis which is decently durable. Webcam is included, but simple solution is to put a dark post-it note over it.

If it is too heavy, then consider the Acer Chromebook R11.

The biggest issue I see with that plan is the docking needs to be something she's comfortable with. Have a good place for her to put it and have it automatically switch so that she can just plug one USB-C cable and close the chromebook and put it away so there's not so much going on in her workspace.

I know you mentioned she is older, does she need backlit keys/larger screen? Or does she prefer having a more mobile laptop when taking it around? This website is a good place to get comparisons by price/size/etc.

For actual hardware I'd probably recommend:

Acer Chromebook 15 - Something large, relatively budget friendly, but mid-range performance. You definitely would get more options going for smaller sizes, and probably without touch-screen.

Something like this dock - This one doesn't have a ton of reviews but it has all the display ports you might want, especially as I'd keep the current monitor unless she needs an upgrade. There are more budget friendly options, but I would probably mount the previous one in a spot where there'd be less chance of it moving/accidentally getting pulled out.

This is the one I have. I wasn’t aware there was more than one. I’m new to Chromebook. Would you mind linking me to the newest one or providing a model number?

Thanks a lot

Why Chromebook 15? Isn't Intel Core i3 better than Intel Pentium N4200 Quad-Core?

I have looked at the Acer Chromebook 14 but I have also been looking at the Acer Chromebook 15. The price is a little more, but the specs seem overall better. I could be getting too caught up in worrying about specs vs what I really need for just watching movies.
