Not a bad deal for $520 after the discount.

PUGB is pretty demanding... The gtx 1060 graphics card is usually recommended to run it at regular settings- you wont get a laptop for $700 with that card.. This Acer Nitro 5 though that is currently been sold for $699 will allow you to play it at decent enough setting and with okay frame rates. It has the gtx 1050 ti graphics card, 8 GB RAM, fast 256 GB SSD and a powerful quad core 7th gen i5 processor.

u/LonerIM2 · 9 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

What you are asking for already exist here you go, half the ram, but double the storage.

This is what I got. I know nothing about computers so all of the tech stuff is gibberish (Simlish) to me.

u/hbarSquared · 5 pointsr/civ

Civ isn't a massive performance hog, so that price range should be reasonable. If you can bump up your price by $100 you get into the range for gtx 1050Ti graphics cards, which are going to be solid cards that last you a long time. You probably don't need a full 8GB of ram for Civ, it might help in the late game but it's realistically out of your budget anyway.

MSI w/ i7, 1050Ti

Dell w/ i5, 1050Ti

Acer w/ i5 1050Ti

My wife and I both have MSIs and we love them - the keyboards especially are best in class for laptops, IMO. You might also try over in r/gaminglaptops, there's not always a lot of answers but you might get lucky.

u/Allhailhaels · 5 pointsr/thesims

Idk your budget, but something that has at the minimum an Intel Core i3 processor with Intel Integrated graphics card and 4GB Ram. This would go for about $300-$400 dollars, would be able to play the Sims 4 at very low settings and the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection at comfortable settings/smooth gameplay.

If you can spare some more money, ideally you should get an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, preferably a 6/7/8th generation (generation indicated by the first of number that follows, so for example I have an i5 6200U processor). 8GB+ RAM (more the better) is all suggested. The processors I just mentioned will suit the game fine for medium/high settings but for ultra settings look for one of the i5/i7 with “HQ” at the end. The difference between a processor ending is that 6/7th gen and below processors that end with U are only “dual core” while HQ means “quad core”. If you don’t have the money to grab a quad core/HQ that’s ok, but it leads to my next point.

If you can’t get an HQ processor, try to at least get a U processor accompanied by a dedicated graphics card! Some dgpu’s in a decent price range that work well for sims are the Nvidia GeForce 940m, or MX150 made by the same company! Ultra settings could benefit from a Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 or above (1050,1060,1070,1080). That’s basically it!

The first option is only recommended if you’re on a tight budget. You can get more bang for your buck if you go for a desktop, ie. better processor/graphics card for less money but you use the portability factor. I like to game in bed and also have college to worry about so I need my machine to be portable.

Here are some good laptop choices

If you’re on a really tight budget (ie. first option):
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch FHD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM HD, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K1IO3QW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oHeJAb87X98XF

Have a bit more money to spare:
Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nIeJAbZFVCXT4

Other pricier ($600+) but better choices:
Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577 Gaming Laptop - (15.6" FHD (1920x1080), Intel Quad-Core i5-7300HQ, 1TB HDD, 8GB DDR4, NVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB, Windows 10 - Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_iJeJAbCQ911ZA

u/Sympathetic_Pizza · 4 pointsr/laptops

That is an ok price for that laptop, but its definitely not worth 900 anymore. If you want something more gaming centric, this Refurbished Acer has a more powerful CPU and gtx 1050 GPU but a smaller SSD. It is also available new for $700 in an even more powerful 1050 ti configuration.

I just got this for playing at work or on the road. For a laptop, its the right mix of processor, GPU, and an SSD drive for the price point. I run WoW as per Nvidia recommended settings at or above most "8" presets and it runs beautifully. Also almost no bloatware. The speakers suck, negated by headphones. Great system for the price.

u/[deleted] · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

What is your budget?

Anything with less than a 1050 wont be a great gaming laptop, a 1050Ti will be a better experience.

Amazon, newegg have tons of laptops.

A desktop doesn't fit the bill/be usable?

You get better perf/dollar on a desktop.

On a budget, this laptop:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Gaming-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522668998&sr=8-3&keywords=acer+1050+laptop

And an extra 1-2TB 2.5 inch HDD that can be installed in 2 minutes is the best you can do, below that model, its not a great gaming experience.

u/elvinelmo · 4 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The best professional looking gaming laptop in budget is the Eluktronics P650HP6 Gaming Laptop as it can multitask and run AAA titles on high settings

>I'm willing to go in for a low to mid 700's laptop if it will handle downloads and run files quicker.

Slow download speeds can be due to a slow internet connection. Check your download/upload speeds here. As for running files, that depends on what type of file. Some files require a better graphics card such as if it's a game or editting software, while others simply require a better processor and/or RAM.

>What would you consider a light game?

In my mind, a light game is a game that isn't very graphics heavy and doesn't require a gaming PC/console to run. Newer AAA games such as Battlefield, CoD, and NBA2K19 will require a gaming PC, but games like Minecraft, browser based games, and essentially any game that doesn't require intense graphics to run is light.

> you have any recommendations for good laptops in the 700 dollar range that have good processing power and RAM?

While I can't exactly "recommend" laptops since I haven't used these, this laptop should allow you to run LoL and multitask with ease. Hell, with the specs you might be able to run some AAA games. It's extremely close to your $700 range, but allows you to add an SSD to work alongside the 1TB HDD if you feel it's too slow and add more RAM if 8GB isn't enough. If you're not experienced with SSD/HDD swaps/additions or adding RAM, I'd highly suggest looking up a tutorial on it before opening up the laptop or buying something you can't use.

Once again, this is a laptop very close to your price limit but it should be able to get what you want done. I can't promise that it'll be able run AAA games, but unless it's faulty it definitely will be able to multitask and run lighter games. If for some reason it can't, you need to get a refund somehow. According to Amazon, it has an 8.5 hour battery life, but that might go down if you're running a game and Chrome.

These are gaming laptops. If you aren't into gaming laptops, I recommend looking at the recommended specs of games/applications and going for a laptop with better specs. Like I said before, I can't exactly recommend laptops since I haven't used these, but I have a feeling the laptops above should be able to get the job done. You'll likely need to do some more research for yourself, like contacting the brand and asking them about if the specific laptop can do what you want it to.

These are only two examples, but there is more than likely cheaper options that'll get the job done.

A quick glance shows this is a really good laptop for its price. Can play most games at 1080p 60fps.

u/Max_Splooge · 3 pointsr/wow

I got this one about two weeks ago and it runs wow great. I have the graphics settings set on seven with anti-aliasing and texture filtering turned down and get a solid 60 fps. Overwatch runs great on it too.

Edit: and from what I understand, Wow is more processor dependant than most games so the other laptop linked in this thread may run Wow better but since this laptop has a 1050ti, this laptop should run most other games better. So your choice really but both should run great

The Dell G3 is an okay option, but the thermal throttling and sub-par display will be not be enjoyable.

Another option for a very similar price would be the Acer Nitro 5. It has:

  • i5-7300HQ 4-core processor

  • 1080p 15.6" display

  • GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB graphics card

  • 8 GB of RAM

  • 256 GB SSD storage

  • Weight of 5.5lbs and battery life up to 8.5 hours

The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. Battery life is decent for a gaming device. Overwatch will run great, high-max settings at 60 FPS should be realistic.

    Also, you dropped a \. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Speak no more, I've got you covered. These lovely bastards are great to portable go without the hassle. There's others too varying in prices but this is one of the best versions that comes with Bluetooth and other sweet additions including being VR-ready!

Also, I suggest getting HDMI cords and attaching the PC to a bigger monitor (e.g., television).

Holy catnip that's not a reasonable price. If you are okay with a heavy gaming laptop, then I'll say get one of them, like this

This is a proper gaming machine with enough computing power to do everything.

Depends on what settings you want to play at and if you want a steady 60 fps. A potato can run RS, but not with high fps...

This laptop has no dedicated graphics card and a half-decent CPU, but no SSD.

So yes this laptop can run RS, but expect about 50 fps at min-low settings...

If I can give you one advice, try to find a laptop with an SSD, it speeds up everything by so much!

This laptop for example is much better...

something like this would give you around 30-40 fps at medium medium/high settings? Could definitely go a bit cheaper with a 1050 for example and smaller ssd if you want as cheap as possible and are content with low settings.

You really want something with a video card for gaming, $500 isn't really enough IMO. Laptops with a GTX 1050 are $650-700 and I'd consider that the minimum you want if you plan to play newer games on it. A GTX 1050 ti would be better. A step down from the 1050 would be an MX150 but it's quite a bit weaker and will still cost you ~$600.

I would not buy the HP laptop for the following reasons:

  1. It only has a 1366x768 resolution screen. The lower the resolution, the less information you can see on the screen at once. Try setting the resolution on your laptop's screen or desktop monitor to 1366x768 to see what it looks like. Note that setting the resolution below the native (max) resolution will make text look a little blurry. I generally a 1080p screen (1920x1080).
  2. The laptop relies on the Intel UHD 620 graphics core. While it can be used to play some non-graphically demanding games (like some old games from before 2012) or some indie games; it is generally not recommend for games that can be rather demanding like Fornite or Overwatch. They are not very demanding games at all compared to something like the Witcher 3, but they are not games ideal for the Intel UHD 620 especially Fornite.

The following Acer Aspire E15 E5-576G-5762 laptop for $560 represents the best bang for the buck when it comes to gaming performance. It is the least expensive laptop with the nVidia mx150 which is more powerful than the integrated Vega 8 graphics core in the Ryzen 5 2500u APU which is in the Dell Inspirion 15 5000 laptop. However, it is a heavier laptop at 5.27lbs and it comes with a smaller 256GB SSD.

The ASUS Vivobook K570ZD for $640 represents the least expensive laptop with the nvidia GTX 1050 which is definitely more powerful than nVidia mx150 in the Acer laptop. It is paired with the 1st generation Ryzen 5 2500u APU. It only has a 256GB SSD, and it weighs in at 4.32lbs according to the specs listed on Amazon. Be aware that the battery is usually the heaviest component in a laptop. Laptops typically sacrifice battery life in exchange for being lighter. Never trust what the brand name advertises for battery life. That is usually extremely optimistic; in this case Asus advertises 9 hours. The rule of thumb is cut what is advertised in half when doing things that are not CPU and / or graphically intensive. If playing games, then cut that in half again (if not more). Read user reviews to get a better idea though.

    https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Vivobook-GeForce-Fingerprint-Backlit/dp/B07MKLLVFZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=gtx+1050+laptop&qid=1563818215&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Acer Nitro 5 (2017 version) with Intel i5-7300HQ and GTX 1050 Ti. This is absolutely the most powerful gaming laptop for less than $700; it's $698. The GTX 1050 Ti is probably about 25% more powerful than the GTX 1050. It only has a 256GB SSD.

    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Gaming-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=gtx+1050+laptop&qid=1563818575&s=gateway&sr=8-10

I purchased the 2018 version as a gift which has the newer Intel i5-8300H which is slightly more powerful thant the i5-7300HQ, but still has the GTX 1050 Ti. I can tell you that battery life is short at 3.5 hours with average usage. I assume the i5-7300HQ can get hot similar to the i5-8300H CPU. I recommend downloading a program called ThrottleStop to undervolt the CPU. Google for instructions on how to use ThrottleStop. Out of the box the i5-8300H hit 95c when I was stressing the CPU, using ThrottleStop helped reduce that to about 86c. That's considered "warm". You can leave it as is, but if you want lower temps, then the thermal paste would need to be replaced with something good like Artic MX-4 (or the more expensive but highly praised Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut). Doing so decreased the max temp to something like 77c from what I recall (as stated it was purchased to be given as a gift). However, doing so does void the warranty so if you do not want to risk loosing the warranty, then do not replace the thermal paste until after the warranty has ended.

I'd try to save up as much as you can as the best bang for your buck is right at that 600-700 dollar line. Building her a PC will be the cheapest, but a good laptop that can run Overwatch well is 700USD. Get the money, you can wait. When you got the money, if you NEED a laptop, here's a beyond solid: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Nitro-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510373657&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+nitro+5

For your usage you would need [i5 quad core] processor and [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti] GPU.

I would recommend [Acer Nitro 5](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074Q54GSR/) as it comes with: -

CPU: i5-7300HQ
GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

RAM: 8 GB
Display: FHD 15.6 IPS screen

Storage: 256 GB SSD
Average battery life

It is a great choice because of its great heat management system and high build quality, along with its specifications makes it the best option for your usage and it is within your budget.

Key specs:

  • 7th Generation Intel Core i5-7300HQ Processor (Up to 2.5 GHz)

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM

I purchased this https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Gaming-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR from Costco ($650) during black friday a few years ago for my freelance work. I like the 15 in screen and the specs are good enough to handle the type of work I do (only minor video editing). The major downside is the harddrive, its a 256gb SSD. It's quick enough but gets filled up quickly, especially if I install a game or two for the road.

u/AbysmalVixen · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Just get a really good laptop for your budget. Finding a way to rig up a battery and have portable monitor and mouse and keyboard somehow attached (because you’ll still need all that) will cost way more than it’s worth. And still only be semi-portable with terrible battery life

Edit: Quick search on amazon and this seems to be a good bit better than what you linked for only slightly more

You would be able to purchase the Acer Nitro 5 and add additional RAM and an additional 2.5" HDD if that would interest you. Same goes with the Eluktronics, they all have an empty 2.5" HDD slot inside (if they come with an SSD).

The Asus Zenbook 13 would still be quite a ways behind a laptop with an HQ processor and GTX 1050 or 1050Ti. The GTX 1050 Ti benchmarks as being 100% more powerful.

The Asus would still work really well for most light and moderate gaming, but graphic or CPU intense games would throttle.

u/Dan6erbond · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Since you seem to want to play Overwatch at high settings and care about nothing else, I can recommend any laptop with a GTX1050Ti which is quite a capable GPU like this one from Acer (great budget PC) or this one from HP (better build as well as a PCIe SSD boot drive). I would go for the HP because it's everyday performance will be better, but if you're limited by price, get the Acer. Both are targeted at gamers and get the job done very well.

u/Jackpkmn · 1 pointr/wow

Depends on the price you're looking at. This is 2011-2012 computer, likely heavily used, and was only mid range back then. This computer probably would have run Cataclysm pretty well. But i highly recommend not paying more than a couple hundred on this old computer. Once you start getting into the 500+ range you should save up for something nicer like this Acer Nitro 5.

u/Sinknoswim · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

This is a pretty good deal. To me an ssd is a must have regardless of a 16gb Intel optane.

You can find the acer 5 nitro with better gaming performance and ssd regularly for $675 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Gaming-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR/. I just picked up the Acer Nitro 5 and I absolutely love it. It's in your budget and would easily run every game you listed with ease. The only downside I would say is it's a little heavy and definitely does look like a gaming laptop. Probably any "gaming" laptop within a 600-800 price range off Amazon would set you up for at least 30 FPS in a moderate zerg depending on settings. Considering it for work/travel you shouldn't be needing all the bells and whistles like backlit keyboards with pulse action hair trigger response times featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series, so something like this or this or even this as examples, as they should pack the power for what you're looking into while being somewhat neutral in aesthetics that make it look like just any laptop you'd see in a retail store (if you don't count that two of them have a red theme going on, but you can just simply pass it off as liking the color).

I don't mind the loudness of the fan so as long as it doesn't stay loud once I exit the game. As long as it doesn't overheat to the point where I have to be scared it might damage the hardware I'm not worried.

I'm looking into gaming/general use laptops for myself and a friend, and we both need them for basically the same stuff so I figured the same one would work for us both. Can anyone chime in on this? I tried suggest a laptop but I only got 3 responses which weren't insanely helpful overall.

Budget is $700 USD

A lot of free to play games, Warhammer Deathwing, maybe Borderlands, Rocket League, games like that.

Here are what I am looking at:

This is what is have. It runs games like PUBG at medium graphics around 60fps, and most other games from 60-180. It can also record most games at around 80-40, depending on how heavy the game is. I can’t tell you how much I love it, it’s also great for school work, which I need to do a lot. It’s also 5.5ish pounds.
I highly recommend it, and it’s cheaper on Amazon than when I bought it 2ish months ago. Also, I mess around with game-making and it runs Unity 5 and blender around 200fps.
