I, too, am a teacher and recently purchased three vives and three of the above mentioned laptops. They’ve been great. My only complaint is touchpad sensitivity. GTX 1060 is plenty powerful for educational VR applications. Hit me up, would love to discuss and maybe collaborate on ideas for VR integration.
Wait for this cyber Monday, I'm sure there will be some killer deals. For that price look into laptops with atleast 7700hq processor and gtx1060. I will look one up now for you as an example. This for example is a great pc: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511621010&sr=1-3&keywords=Gaming+laptop
I would try this
Much better processor in that one you'll regret not getting a better processor for wow especially. Also 16GB RAM is nice for some multitasking
Ridiculous pricing on a laptop.
Update: you already missed it if you're reading this, $899 on a 1060 7700HQ laptop.
Had to resubmit due to the title being wrong, it actually has a TN display. As /u/HEROxDivine pointed out, there is the Acer Helios 300 on Amazon for $1050 before tax that is another option for a 1060 6GB laptop, it comes with a 256GB SSD and 7th gen CPU, as well as better build construction. It is a thicker laptop, however, the MSI is .69", the Acer is 1.05". Some reviews do say that this laptop does have some thermal issues after a while gaming under load. The build quality is also questionable, it's not going to fly apart, but it can feel a bit more flimsy than more premium laptops.

This one seems good.
https://www.newegg.ca/black-acer-helios-300-standard/p/1TS-000X-012R2
✓ 8th gen i7
✓ Can handle SolidWorks.
✓ GTX 1060 6GB, plenty good for those games and can play AAA titles at decent settings.
✓ 1 TB SSD NVMe + 1 TB HDD, plenty of space and speed.
✓ 16 GB memory, plenty for a laptop.
✓ 1080p IPS screen @ 144Hz (probably the best part). In my opinion, 1080p IPS @ 144Hz is way better than 4K TN @ 60Hz. Resolution isn't everything.
✓ $25 over budget, BUT, it's on sale at 30% off, free shipping and only 5% tax.

I'm looking at buying it as well. $1049

Since you aren't going for anything art related you won't need a screen with an amazing color gamut to do what you want then.
I'd take a hard look at this to start with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B01N9SSQ9E
A very good price/performance tradeoff, if you can stomach the somewhat questionable aesthetics. The only real downside is that you've only got 256gb of storage. You will likely want an external drive for anything large such as movies (if you get one, make sure it is USB3).
Note that when gaming your battery life is going to tank, and your fan noise is likely to be high. There isn't any getting around that regardless of what device you choose.
Since you want this laptop to be somewhat future proof getting a a good GPU is vital, check out the *Dell i7577-5241BLK-PUS**
A powerful gaming laptop which provides great value with a powerful GTX 1060 and a quad core CPU for below $1000. The system will boot quickly with the OS on the fast SSD and videos, pictures and large files can be stored on the HDD. Alternatively, if you want to use your max budget you cant beat the Acer Predator Helios 300
You'll be pretty hard-pressed to find a powerful machine with the gtx 1060 and a great battery life. The Acer predator 300 has an advertised 7 hour battery life for $1050 and is widly considered one of the best value laptops based on its specs and price range. It has an Intel Quad Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16gb of ram, a 256GB SSD, and that GTX 1060 dGPU.
Alternatively, look into the Acer V15 Nitro for $1180if you're looking for a more sleek laptop with a 1TB HDD.
If you were willing to sacrifice some of the battery life from the predator, this Eluktronics P650 for $1300 is a very popular laptop and great at this price range. Its well built, and powerful with many customizable specifications, a good display, and a sleek design. The rest of the specs are an Intel Quad core i7-7700HQ processor, 16gb ram, a 512gb SSD, and a GTX 1060 dGPU making it a very powerful machine. You could add an aftermarket HDD if you desired, but the SSD is rather large at 512.
For an option at the top of your budget, this Eluktronics P650 for $1500 has everything you'd want (except for the battery life), including an Intel Kaby lake i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB of ram, a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, and a GTX 1060dGPU. The display is a 120 HZ for this model as well.
Hopefully this will help you out. If you want more of an idea as to whats on the market, consider checking my extensive laptop recommendation guide
Short answer: yes, it is VR Ready.
Suggestions: Acer Predator Helios 300
I assume you'd be paying about $900 for the one you posted. For $150 more, the one above has a 1060 6b, which has about a 10% boost in performance, and 6 gb of vram will be good for years to come. It has a 7700hq instead of the 6700hq. This is about 10% boost in performance and is the latest generation of Intel processors. Probably the most notable improvement however, is the 256 gb ssd. This will make a drastic improvement in boot times. This laptop is only $1050, and I think those three improvements are well worth the upgrade if you have a little bigger budget.
Edit: The one I posted also has 16 gb of ram, while yours has 8 gb. This is also a nice improvement and a little future proofing.
One of my friends just picked up the Acer Predator Helios 300. He runs squad at around 60 FPS on most maps. For the specs you can't beat the price. i7 1060. $1,049.99
https://www.amazon.com/Amazons-Choice-Predator-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
Get the Acer Predator Helios, off Amazon. It ships here too, but the S&H and Import fees almost total up to 500 dirhams. Check SnS. The laptop's $1049 which is 4549 including the S&H and Import fees, and I don't think you'll get many good deals at GITEX, but it's worth checking out. :)
Two things I want to say....If you would go a little over $1000 and are willing to go with a 15.6 inches laptop which really is quite decent in terms of size, then you have the chance of getting this Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop with the powerful gtx 1060 6 GB graphics card as opposed to the gtx 1050 Ti you will get if you have to get a 17 inches laptop or if you have to spend under $1000... The Helios has a powerful i7 quad core processor, 16 GB RAM and fast SSD which are excellent specs for this price..It will easily play the games you mentioned above on high ultra settings.
Currently using a 17" Acer Predator in college for game dev, and some gaming. Mine was 1400$ but they have cheaper ones that are 15". Runs all my games at high-ultra at 60fps.
Looks like they are right at 1000$ now. Definitely suggest this over something thats closer to 600$ for obvious reasons. And Acer has a 2 year manufacture warranty, while most have 1 year.

Hey,
How about the Acer Predator Helios 300? It has:
The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. Any recent game (AAA titles) will run great at high settings, so the games you listed will have no issue. It will also be fine for general use.
This list will help you to pick. It has the best laptops for gaming and high performance in various budget ranges. Just identify the budget range you have and ask any question you think is necessary.
Would something like this Helios 300 be something you would work with in terms of its appearance ? The performance power is definitely there, but it has quite a gaming appearance. This Pavilion Gaming 15t Notebook has a weaker graphics card, but a better display and more powerful processor.
The [helios 300 7th gen] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537760938&sr=1-2&keywords=helios+300&linkCode=ll1&tag=gaming0789-20&linkId=22cf6f3f530f36406cdab3c967d00013&language=en_US) is now below a 1000 dollars. It's a true powerhouse laptop, which comes with a powerful gtx 1060 gpu and i7 processor, Great IPS screen display which is good for wide angle viewing. 7 hours of Battery life.
In this price range for gaming I would rather choose Acer Predator Helios 300.
It has:
More details
You can get a 1060 within budget.
I’ve got this exact laptop. Thing is a beast. Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD, Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_j.oWAbEH9ZX8Q
Edit- it’s $1049 on amazon right now.
link to laptop new on amazon
4 stars $1049 there.
Seems like decent deal, but I am hoping for a 1070 or 1080+144hz (which would cost more of course)
For your budget an eGPU wouldn't be worth it, as it is not available with great enough specs, however, I would recommend this Acer vx configuration because it comes with everything you need , i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, high build quality, very good heat management, decent battery life, 1050Ti GPU which is great for gaming in this range, and it is within your budget./
Or if you can push your budget a little more then I would recommend this Acer predator mainly because it comes with 1060 GPU instead of 1050Ti.
HP Pavilion 15
Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro
Dell Inspiron 15
Lenovo Legion Y520
Lenovo Ideapad Y700

Honestly for 1350 you should really be looking at laptops with at least a 1060. At that price you could even land one with 6gb vram. That laptop only has a 1050 and not even a TI it looks like. I say no go bromigo.
Check out this Predator Helios for example. Way better laptop for the money. Only thing it's missing is a mechanical drive for storage but it is also almost 300 less than that ROG
The new Intel chips you've been hearing about are probably the ones with integrated Vega graphics. They're not out yet.
However $1400 should get your friend something quite a bit more than entry level, and much more powerful than whatever those new chips will have to offer.
For example, this Acer Predator Helios 300 is ~$1000 with an i7-7700HQ, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB of RAM, SSD, 1080p screen, very good specs for a 1080p gaming laptop. At $1400 you can get something with a GTX 1070, which is already high-end for laptop.
If I’m looking at the right one, that only has a 1050 in it. And a HDD, not even a ssd
The Acer Predator Helios 300 has a 1060-6gb and the 7700hq with 16gb of ram. In terms of power it’s quite a bit better for the lower end of your budget. It’s an inch smaller and has an ssd. No storage drive but you are able to add another drive yourself.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
Easily the best value at 1k.
1060 6GB, 16GB ram, I7770. The screen isn't the best but it isn't bad either.
Performance wise it's going to far out preform the 1050ti. Just look at 1060 benchmark's vs 1050ti.
For much less than 2K, you can easily get a config with an i7 and a GTX 1060. That would let you run virtually everything at 1080p 60fps at max settings or close.
You should do some more research, but here's one.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
4560 aed including shipping. gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ddr4, 256gb ssd, i7-7700HQ. Forget league of legends, you can play witcher 3 on high and get 70 fps. Review and benchmarks here.
same laptop is 6460 on microless. 6450 on souq. An inferior version of the same model (half as much ram, no ssd) is on gear up for 5775.
edit: you might be able to beat this price with some serious serious haggling in computer plaza (even then, unlikely) but i would say this laptop is well worth the asking price even considering the shipping plus you get great amazon support.
The Acer Predator Helios 300 dropped back down to$1049.99. Still upset that I missed it at $900, though.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?th=1
At $1100 USD, and $100 off sometimes, it's the best laptop with a GTX 1060

Yes waiting for a better deal on these days is a good idea. look out for the Acer helios 300 with those specs you mentions going for about your budget range. it would be a great choice.
The Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop would be a great option get before cyber monday is up!!!! It's for $999 now
Best value here
Simpler Design similar specs
EDIT : Messed up link fixed now though.
Hi, Im looking at getting either Acer Predator Helios and this Eluktronics I know the Helios is a great latop at that price point, but how does the other compare? I have never heard or them, but have not looked for a new laptop in 6 years or so.
How's this one? Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7 CPU, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, VR Ready, 15.6" Full HD, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9F.XzbM0AS3P7
This thing.
Something like this is closest to your budget:
https://www.amazon.com/15z-Convertible-Notebook-Touchscreen-Computer/dp/B0792F27M3/
Above the budget but it's the best so far AMD has to offer:

Intel best offer that fits in your budget:

I agree with Antegarda, you should wait little more time, more will come in upcoming months.
I’ve heard good things about the Acer Predator Helios 300
I have the Acer Predator Helios 300, I've had it for about 6 months and it's had no problems and still blasts through everything, even streaming, editing, and playing, here's a link Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD, Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YX1RAbF1CH3Y4
Acer Predator Helios 300, 1049 USD.
However , it's got a plain backlit keyboard, does scream gamer a bit and I am not sure how much it weighs.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
That's got nice specs for the price, not much hard drive space though.
You can easily get something with at least a 1050 ti and a 7th gen i5/i7. I'd go with an HQ cpu personally. The 'U' versions are low power and battery life usually isn't a high priority for gaming laptops.
Maybe check out /r/suggestalaptop too
Id rather get something like this https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-15-6-Full-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B072C1FNN1/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1504021932&sr=1-4&keywords=1070+laptop
That one has a full 1070 in it.
Alternatively this one is a good chunk cheaper and has a 1060. https://www.amazon.com/Amazons-Choice-Predator-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1504021932&sr=1-10&keywords=1070+laptop
These are just the first two examples that Amazon search has spat out. If you really intend to buy a laptop you should read reviews on the specific models if there are some glaring issue with it like thermal issues or whatever.
Anyways a laptop with a 1060/1070/1080 would be best as those are pretty powerful for laptop GPUs and almost as good as there desktop counterparts and they offer a lot of VRAM. The 1060 and 1070 have 6 respectively 8GB on board.
If money is no object you can even go for SLI system these days although those are 3000$+
Alternatively you could look into small form factor desktops like an ITX based system depending on how you travel between your houses.
1400? Since when? even during release it was advertised as "1500 including a PC" and that's when prices for rift and vive were much higher, and before the 10 series nvidia came out.
I'll sit and link you computer and computer that's VR ready without even a custom build.
https://www.amazon.com/A80CJ-DS51-Oculus-Ready-Console-GeForce-VR-ready/dp/B06VXT72F1/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504872330&sr=1-4 699$ - This is a PREBUILT PC for under 700
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-GeForce-Backlit-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504872600&sr=8-3 - even a VR ready laptop is under 1100 now (1050$)
You can build a PC yourself for less.
Neither of these PCs are min spec either, they are slightly above and will provide better experiences then PSVR, I am not against PSVR in any way but I hate people spreading misinformation.
It's a great home console that has it's place and I love the fact it's made VR as a whole more accessible.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
would probably be better than any of those
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
Quad core i7, GTX 1060 6 GB graphics, 16GB of RAM, and a decent SSD. Just a bit out of budget for $1049 but if you want a real gaming laptop this would be my go to affordable one.
LTT did a review of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3ZhmKWsQLA
Before I give you a recommendation, consider bringing your desktop. I bought a Razer Blade to bring with me to college because I didn't want to bring my desktop. However, I quickly realized I was basically using it as a desktop anyway since it stayed at my desk whenever I wasn't in class. I sold it and built a new Desktop and it works perfectly fine. You'll save a lot of money.
That being said take a look at this laptop from Acer. It meets all of your requirements except storage, but there is an additional slot for a second HDD so you could put one in there.
This is a great deal but i would go for a brand with a budget like that something like the Acer Helios300 for the same price and same specs except the ssd bein 256GB on the acer
Thanks for the detailed reply, I’ll shoot you over some laptops.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_T-U7BbHTDNZDC
I know you said more than 8-12 ram is unnecessary but I think the price looked good for the value. What do you think? Also, this does not have a 144hz screen. Not that it is needed, but perhaps preferred.
The thing is, I’m afraid the gpu won’t be enough to display at 144 FPS to get the use out of the 144hz screen.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/OVERPOWERED-Gaming-Laptop-15-144Hz-Intel-i5-8300H-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1050-Mechanical-LED-Keyboard-128-SSD-1TB-HDD-8GB-RAM-Windows-10/682079574
This model has a 1050
And this model has a 1060
https://www.walmart.com/ip/OVERPOWERED-Gaming-Laptop-15-144Hz-Intel-i7-8750H-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1060-Mechanical-LED-Keyboard-256-SSD-1TB-HDD-16GB-RAM-Windows-10/510869060
I noticed that most laptops don’t advertise a 1070 card. Most are 1060 6gb and lower which I think would be good for 1920x1080 60hz refresh rate high settings, but I didn’t want to cross out the 144hz monitor on the overpowered Walmart brand laptops until i was sure that you wouldn’t be able to get anything out of it because a 1050 or 1060 may not produce the frames needed to get most out of the 144 hz screen if that makes sense.
So all in all, it doesn’t need to be 144hz but I want to explore that avenue. Ideally it would have all of the qualities you’d want in a laptop. Light enough to be comfortable laying on a couch, not necessarily needed to put the laptop on a desk. (I’ve owned a 20 pound laptop, only used it on a desk, not fun lesson learned haha)
I’m sure whatever laptop I get will be significantly better than the 18 FPS ultra low quality I’m playing at now. Shoot me over your thoughts if you can! Thank you for your time and help!
Hello,
What about the Lenovo Legion Y520 (999$ from Costco). Here is a quick view of the specs:
It has some nice specs all packed in a thin chassis. The 1050Ti will handle any game at high-medium settings. Overall build quality is pretty good.
However if you can push your budget to 1050$ you could get the Acer Predator Helios 300 which comes with a GTX 1060 and will drastically improve performance (60% more powerful) : you'll be able to play at high-ultra settings on nice framerates.
Nvidia GTX 1060 (Mobile) vs GTX 1050-Ti (Mobile)
Userbenchmark Effective 3D Gaming GPU Speed: 57.4% vs 35.9%
Nvidia GTX 1060 (Mobile) - 32nd / 542
Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti (Mobile) - 53rd / 542
In addition to these sales, it looks like the price of the Acer Predator Helios 300 has decreased further to $900. I'm not sure if it's a Prime Day deal but it's an excellent price nonetheless.
You'll have to stretch the price tag a bit for a laptop with a GPU that outperforms the GTX 960.
Acer Predator Helios 300
Edit: u/aberdisco has a good option if you're willing to sacrifice the SSD and the extra 4GB of RAM in the Predator for an extra $50 savings.
Try this one out, it would run all those games flawlessly
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3zNDzb27DJPZP
Well, for that price I would suggest this Acer:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
It's cheaper and it even has a GTX1060. Check it out!
Well, there is Acer's Predator Helios 300. I've been searching for a while now and i found it really great, looking at its price (1050$ on Amazon), It's specs are really good too, with a GTX 1060 6g gpu, an i7-7700 cpu, 16g of ram and a 256 ssd. And there is the Dell inspiron 15 with almost the same specs (half the ssd and and extra 1T HDD) but it costs an extra 100$.
Im really confused between those two laptops since my budget is limited and i could use the additional 100$ on the dell's to get a gaming mouse and headphones,.. etc. I've seen a bunch of reviews on both, and they seem to be fine, so - even with the bad previous experience with Acer- I'm still leaning toward their gaming laptop (purely because of the 100$ tho).

Helios has a 6gb 1060, but no TB HDD. What else does the MSi have over the Helios?
The 14inch Razer blade is your best bet for portability and performance, comes at a cool 1900USD.
There is the HP Omen 15inch, which has a bit less performance and portability but will save you a lot of cash at only 1000USD.
The Aurous 15 seems to be on sale at amazon. It is at 1800USD and has the same portability and even better performance than the Razer Blade.
There is also the acer predator that hits the mark on your budget at 1500, a little less portable than the Razer Blade and Aurous but has pretty good performance. Amazon Link
I hope that helps! :)
I think this infographic could be really helpful for you in finding what you can get in each price range.
For specific suggestions, I bought the ASUS FX502vm this year for my freshman year of college. I play LOL and PUBG also and was worried about the aesthetics at college also. Its just a basic black laptop that you can turn the backlit keyboard off if you are really looking for a professional look. For gaming, this laptop runs very smoothly on both games and I haven't had any compaints about performance. It is a little over your price range. If you want a cheaper laptop that looks a little more like a gaming laptop, the Acer Helios 300 is a great choice but does have that "gamer" look you are trying to avoid.
No they don't. I got a gaming laptop a few months ago and the things a beast. Easily competes with my desktop PC.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
I would recommend Acer Predator Helios 300 as it comes with: -
CPU: i7-7700HQ
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060
RAM: 16 GB
Display: FHD 15.6 IPS screen
Storage: 256 GB SSD,- HDD
Average battery life
It is a great choice because of its great heat management system and high build quality, along with its specifications makes it the best option for your usage and it is within your budget.

Is this what you're looking for? Around $1,000 with a GTX 1060 and an i7 7700hq
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1505550752&sr=8-19&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=gtx+1060+laptop&dpPl=1&dpID=41WBehSiOUL&ref=plSrch
My one hesitation is that I'm assuming this doesn't include tax. The tax would be about 60 dollars, making it a total of 930. For an extra 120 bucks I could upgrade to an i7, add 8 gigs more of ram, and swap the HDD for an SDD by getting this one.
if you only want 1080p 60 fps, you can simply search for something like an i7 7700hq gtx 1060 laptop. They go for 1050 usd for me. I don't know which country you live in, and I don't want to send you something that doesn't ship to your country. Here is the U.S. link for the laptop i'm telling you about. This can play just about all current games at 1080p 60 fps

Not sure about either here, the Dell ones i would usually say go for it, but it has a poor combo of 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Half of the SSD will be pretty much the OS (Windows 10). This Asus one looks like it could have heat-issues and i would try to look for an exterior cooling device, on which you can put your laptop, just to be sure, if you decide to go for that one.
The Asus one you can at least chose a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo and stay under your $1250 pricerange. Note Samsung has a 5 year or 150 TB written warranty on their 850 EVO SSD(PROs go up to 10 years), with great customer service. I messaged them a Month ago about a faulty SSD and they went ahead payed for delivery + pickup and shipped it to a nearby facility... 3 days later i get a factory new SSD as a replacement. Very quick and super nice Customer Service throughout, keeping me updated over the course of the RMA ticket.
Edit: I have another issue with the Asus one, because you have to pay 25 bucks extra for a clean installation of windows without any 3rd party bullshit you get otherwise. Screwing over the customers... lol
Also never go for SSHDs those hybrid bullshit drives are all cheap garbage. They usually have the smallest/cheapest fucking SSD in there and then the biggest, loudest, slowest and cheapest HDD as well. < Not worth getting those EVER.
Edit2: This one looks alot better then the ones you picked out TBH
It's cheaper, but it also has less Diskspace, this is not a huge issue as you can easily slide in another SSD, in which case it will be the same price, than the other two, but significantly stronger and hopefully without any 3rd party bullshit software. User reviews and quick observation of the casing lead me to believe that there is little to no heat issues, still would advice for a cooling pad to increase lifetime.
Not really - this one is great value.

In my prespective asus laptops are overpriced a bit.... For a gtx 1060 laptop I would like to suggest acer predator helios 300 its just for 1050$ right now at amazon its the best laptop you can get with that price.... Talking of pros- it has i7- 7700HQ , 16gb DDR4 expandable upto 32gb, a 6gb DDR5 gtx 1060... With a usb type c gen 1 port.. it crushes any game at 1080p high or ultra with a hiss and do not thermal throtlle at all like asus gl502vm....
Another laptop that stuck out for me is lenovo legion y720 it starts for around 1050$ with an i5-7500 HQ ... I7 model is 1100$ with 8gb DDR4 ram, 6gb gtx 1060, its most plus point is it supports dolby atmos sound which is best in the market , a type c thunderbol port and a sweet RGB backlit keyboard...
Personally i would go for legion rather than an asus...

Predator Helios 300.
Purchased it on December, very happy with it. I've been able to play Titanfall 2, Fortnite, The Witcher 3 and many other demanding games with no heating issues. It gets very hot, but it has something called PredatorSense which basically regulates the fans depending on the usage. It comes with a 256GB SSD, but you can purchase another SSD and install it, as it has an extra SSD slot.
Have you looked into the [Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-Keyboard/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1527393428&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+Predator+Helios+300+Gaming+Laptop) which a highly rated gaming laptop. Seems okay to me as long as you dont play AAA modern games. Is it meant to be a gaming comp for modern games, if so no? For around 1000$ (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-GeForce-Backlit-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506207068&sr=8-1&keywords=helios) you can get 3X more gpu performance and twice the ram (but lose a hard drive) http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-950M-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB/m27713vs3639
This is a bad buy. Don't let these people tell you it's good. This isn't a good value at full price. 12GB of RAM? Why does it not have an SSD at over a thousand dollar price tag it should. The laptop below is much better. I understand you have probably a budget of under a thousand, since you're looking at buying the open box for $950 but If you could spend a bit more, it would be worth it. (With that being said, the laptop is by no means bad and it will obviously hold its own but a thousand dollar laptop lacking an SSD is extremely unfortunate. On top of this, the best buy versions of laptops are always worse quality and mainly you will see this in the display of the laptop.
i7 7700HQ + 16GB of RAM + 1060 6GB (10% better in games) + 256GB SSD and it's cheaper. You will however need to add an additonaly 2.5" drive for storage and games. (Which it seems like you have a 500GB SSD to install so you shouldn't have to spend more)

Just a thought, but $/performance for gaming...might want to look at this
I had 2 buds that got their laptop stolen while in home port. those were about $2k laptops, so shit deal for them (they were idiots, left their rack unlocked while in a rush). I'm out of the navy now, but if I were looking for a gaming laptop, this is what I'd get. Had a buddy get one of these about a month ago and no complaints.
Get the hard drive too, but buy it seperate and install it yourself to save a few bucks here
Also, there's quite a few ways to save some money on amazon...so you can actually pay less for it.
Here are the full specs/trade offs
Acer Predator helios 300 vs HP Omen 17-an012dx

16gb vs 12gb
256gb ssd vs 1tb hdd
gtx 1060 vs rx 580
acer vs hp
15.6" vs 17.3"
$1123 vs $975 (-$20 best buy rewards, +$70 ish for ssd)
This Dell laptop and this ACER laptop seem to be around your price range and have decent specs.
I believe the Acer Predator Helios 300, would suit most those needs: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
If I'm looking at the correct laptops, go with the Acer.
Acer
Samsung
Edit: To clarify why, the Acer has a 1060 GPU over the Samsungs 1050. The Acer is running DDR4 RAM (newer than than Samsungs DDR3). Acers processor is also faster.
OP followed up with:
Hey thanks for the input on my post about the Dell XPS 15! I appreciate it.
I wanted to check on similar spec'ed laptops and I came across the following two laptops, both of which are similar in specs.
What would you say sets apart your XPS from these, especially since these are so much cheaper!
Thank you in advance! I am partial to the XPS right now but just need to justify spending that much money lol.

My response:
Why don't you followup on your original post? Other people can chime in.
The two laptops you are comparing to are "Gaming class" laptops. They are designed larger heat dissipation in mind as well as MAYBE a screen with a faster response time. Also, they are designed to be mostly at your desk, and seldom put in a backpack.
The XPS15, IMO, is designed to be pretty and portable. There are compromises in both cases.
Honestly, if you are are planning on putting this in your backpack on average once a week, then the XPS15 is a no brainer.
The ability to connect to the TB16 makes it a true desktop replacement.
The 2 lanes of PCIe on the thunderbolt port do not allow you to use external graphics cards effectively.
Note, there are seperate display port lanes, so it is OK, and the use of external monitors won't suffer.
Finally, if the advantages of the XPS are attractive to you (bright screen, slim design, decent build quality, performing processor,
bad quality control), then ANY laptop you get will cost at least $1000. Building a desktop (with decent SSDs and RAM) will cost a similar amount, so you are probably better off getting the XPS 15.According to this review, the fan is quiet even gaming.
If you want a beast yet nice laptop, maybe this is better. Great build quality over here, for sure.
This one is good also, but I prefer Dell's.
That being said, if you don't want hardcore ultra graphics in new games, the ultrabook from Asus is easily one of the best options, as well as a HP Envy 13 with MX150 (not available right now as far as I can see, but you can see specs here).
eGPU.io
EXP GDC adapter, remove the WiFi card, put the adapter, and read the forums before, read this for a starter:
https://egpu.io/forums/expresscard-mpcie-m-2-adapters/didnt-think-id-have-to-post-but-i-need-help/
There is 980m in Asus stupid MXM format, it costs near 600€, and you would need to mod your BIOS, and maybe grind the heatsink here and there.
For 800$ at discount you can grab a 1060 laptop, for example this one is at 950$:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
You cant use adapters at all, because it uses the Thunderbolt in the PCIe mode, and either your laptop has one from factory or no number of adapters will ever give you the functionality.
seconded! its the acer helios 300!
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
If you can afford the extra $50, I'd go for this over that Aspire:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Processor-Graphics-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1502494930&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+helios+300
This one has the more powerful GTX 1060 which will run PUBG far smoother than the 1050ti.
The top spec you can get for c$1000 is a 1060
The 1050ti is not really much faster than your 970m, so not worth it.
Some suggestions:
Acer Helios -
Review
MSI GP62 - Review
Asus FX 502 - Review
However I note that the screens on these models tend to be disappointing. I would consider that if you only have $1000 to spend and your laptop is still working, I would keep it for a bit longer, it is not really that out of date and the upgrade from a 970m to 1060 is not that large, and you would have compromise on other things to get that anyway.
Something like this would be good. But also I would head over to /r/SuggestALaptop like Jim said.
2.5-2.7GHz should be enough. Since you are using a laptop you won't be streaming at full 1080p (which you shouldn't do anyway until you're partnered) so i'm sure the CPU will be fine for now. I can show you a few OBS settings if you'd like as well that could pair well with laptops, but once you get more viewers and get partnered I would recommend getting an upgrade to around ~$1000 laptop if you are going to be travelling.
something like this would be a perfect streaming laptop:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=psdc_13896615011_t5_B06XJJG4PD
Fair enough, it isn't cheap, but it is best bang/buck for a mid-grade laptop.
What about this one?
Ah, so if we're looking for laptops with both an i7 HQ CPU and a GTX 1060 GPU then we can see:
http://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/legion-y-series/Lenovo-Y520-15IKBN/p/88GMY500808
This Lenovo has a Max-Q 1060, which is a smaller slower variant designed for laptops, but it's the cheapest i7 HQ & GTX 1060 combo I've seen, the SSD is a bit smaller for my liking though.
http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2GQ08EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB
This HP seems to have a mostly the same model for £50 less after cashback at PC world, but I think the PC world one has a lower screen quality as well as less RAM.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-Keyboard/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_14?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1504972040&sr=1-14
This seems well regarded, note the US keyboard, however.
Anyway, that should be enough to get you started as generally decent gaming laptops, you might want to see if you want find out some better guidance on what to optimise for for Warhammer Total War.

If you can wait it also frequently goes on sale for 899 which makes it quite hard to pass by as a deal.
For raw performance it's practically a steal. The i7-7700hq and GTX 1060 are a great pairing for high to ultra 1080p gaming. However, there are a few quirks about the laptop that turned me away from it. For context, I had the same Lenovo Legion Y520 gaming laptop, except in its GTX 1050TI form before returning it for a different laptop. I even had two of them before deciding to return the laptop for two major reasons.
Regarding the build quality, it is made out of a pretty flimsy plastic that allows a lot of flex on the body. A lot of people will say that the build quality is fine, but when I had it I wasn't a huge fan.
Regarding the screen, it is a pretty average screen with okay color reproduction and brightness. However, my problem was that the screen itself was extremely fragile, and within the first month of using it, the LCD inside the screen ended up bursting, creating a splash of orange color in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen. This issue goes hand in hand with the not spectacular build quality mentioned earlier. Keep in mind that I was in high school at the time and regularly took the laptop in and out of my backpack, though I never recalled actually being that rough moving it or my backpack in transport.
If your laptop is going to be sitting in one place most of its life, then build quality might not be an issue. But if you are a student, it may not last that lifestyle. I know you said that you had a 4 year warranty on the laptop, which is great, but would you really want to deal with frequent laptop RMA, which is a process that can take anywhere from 3 weeks to a month at a time? I would rather spend the money now on a sturdy machine. If you are looking for a gaming laptop with comparable specs, then a great option would be to get the Acer Helios 300. Though it is $100 more, the better build quality and screen I think would be worth it.
A couple other issues I have are very minor, such as only having the 256GB SSD, but that can be fixed by buying a $50 2TB HDD as dump storage. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Very quick ( < 30 seconds) search turned up this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537479446&sr=1-2&refinements=p_36%3A2421890011
Which, I'm pretty sure, could handle everything maxed out (the graphics in this game are not intensive), so I would say definitely possible, even if this isn't the laptop you want. And again, I didn't do an in-depth search.
Acer Predator Helios 300
$999 on Amazon. This is the one I got and it works like a champ, plus it’s a laptop which I think is pretty cool.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS, Intel i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, Windows 10 64-bit, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qBBQBbY6CJ17A
I was just told this one would be even better than the dell, agree or disagree?
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
The predator helios 300 was recently on sale for $900 as part of prime day. It's now back to $1050 so a bit over budget but it is one of the most recommended values as it does sport a 1060. It may go on sale again, but I' not sure.
If you value being able to take the laptop with you on the go, without the charger, the dell will last you the longest on battery power. I believe they advertise about 11 hours of standard use.
Both laptops are fairly popular, and I've been able to play with both at some local stores. I'd recommend trying to go and see them in person if you can.
The Acer laptop:

I mean most budget laptops do not have the best graphics cards in them. The Helios laptop is a great value but it's outside your budget
This laptop is prob the best bang for your buck you can get
What about this? This would go over if you count tax.
http://www.microcenter.com/product/475414/Aspire_V15_Nitro_Black_Edition_VN7-593G-70U4_156_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Slate_Black
This if you want a bit cheaper and would be just under your max budget after tax

There are 1060 laptops for 1000. Let me look it up.
EDIT: Found two. Acer Helios 300 and Sager NP7850
If you're not afraid of going with Amazon Warehouse deal (I just did, mine looks brand new too) then here is a 1060 6GB for $817. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
There are tons of gtx 1650 gaming laptops launching this or next month with intel 9th gen, most of them will be around $1k or slightly more or less. Although that card will run all the games you mentioned very well at max settings, it's not an incredibly powerful card for most AAA games.
I would suggest this Zephryus GA502 for $1200. It has a 120hz screen and gtx 1660ti max q card, which has has performance comparable or more than gtx 1060, and will last you for a long while. There's also a $1100 version of this laptop but with a 60hz screen instead of 120, but i can't find any links right now. Here's a review if you're interested.
If the extra $200 is too much, then you can't go wrong with the g531 for $1k. Compared to the other one, it has intel 9th gen instead of ryzen, isn't slim and has a gtx 1650. There's also a gtx 1660ti version and above for this, but seems like Asus hasn't put up e-retailer pages for it yet since they release later this month.
There's also this Acer Predator 300 with gtx 1060 that goes for $1k and is pretty popular and overall well-built but it runs very hot. Unless you want to cook food on your laptop, honestly wouldn't really recommend it.
Reposting because I forgot to remove the Amazon affiliate code in one of the product links and AutoMod removed my comment
Personally I'd steer well clear of Apple. They're kinda overpriced and rather anti-consumer (Exhibit 1, Exhibit 2, Exhibit 3).
Some things I came up with off the top of my head:
All of these laptops will 100% perform better than a MacBook Pro in almost all situations. The better CPUs will have an advantage for video rendering. Their GPUs blow the Intel Iris iGPU out of the water. Sure, they might be overkill for what you want to do, but they're the same price (or less) than a MacBook with inferior specs.
Hey, it's your money. If MacOS is a huge selling point for you, then get a MacBook. But for the applications you mentioned, a MacBook doesn't seem like the best option.
If you have any questions, I'm happy to help.
Do you have a budget?
This laptop will do all of the above and more.
Pretty bad honestly. You can get a similar power laptop for cheaper.
To show im not making this up:
https://smile.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_3
r/buildapc and r/buildapcforme will help you out a ton. There are tons of redditors whose hobby is to help people in exactly your situation. If you're willing to put in the time to read a bit and maybe watch a youtube tutorial, you can end up with a machine that you can run virtually any game on for years.
If you need a laptop for other reasons (or just prefer the ability to game outside of your room), that's another story. If you're sure you want a laptop, you can get one with very good specs for ~$1000. This one, this one, and this one are all good options: they offer a current-gen CPU, a GTX 1060, 16GB RAM, and numerous other desirable features.
How about the [Acer helios 300 7th gen] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1541357890&sr=1-3&keywords=acer+predator+300&linkCode=ll1&tag=gaming0789-20&linkId=5d08be307ea5ad777b6a3efe7d2b8a95&language=en_US) or the [Acer helios 300 8th gen] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Overclockable-Aeroblade-PH315-51-78NP/dp/B07CTHLX8C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1541357890&sr=1-4&keywords=acer+predator+300&linkCode=ll1&tag=gaming0789-20&linkId=947940b0ff7f7d22a0a1013d3a09d25f&language=en_US). You can remove any bloatware pretty easily on windows 10, and it has decent specs for a gaming laptop
MSI has some good looking ones, like this. You could also get some great alienware configs for that price.
Also here is a great Acer Predator for $1100 that has specs better than some $1900 laptops I've seen.
Seeing as how you're going in for engineering, I imagine gaming isn't your primary concern (but I wouldn't be surprised if you were a gamer). For that reason, I'd look into a business-class laptop with a strong processor and dedicated graphics, since you don't need a gpu to run CAD or similar programs. Ditching the gpu will drop prices a lot, but your budget is pretty damn high from my point of view (you could get a fairly beefy gaming computer for like $1,200 if you know where to shop). Really, it's down to your preference:
I tried building a good $1000 computer.
This is what I got
At a cursory glance I can get this laptop for pretty much the same $1000.
It seems to me that their performance would pretty much be identical. However the laptop has a huge benefit in the portability section. Plus I get to sell my old laptop.
Now I'm leaning towards a laptop again. Am I missing something?
Go for this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
Best specs in budget. I've ordered one for myself. It can easily handle games like BF1, witcher 3, watch dogs 2. The cooling is also better than the other laptops in this price range.

If I'm not mistaken I believe you can turn it off. Also I got hyped up by looking at the SabrePro too with the 1060 until I saw that it only has a 60 Whr battery :(
Besides that I don't have anything else except the Acer Predator Helios 300 which contrary to what you want since it has a very noticeable gamer look.

Why?
1060m graphics card is ~50% stronger than 1050ti m in significant games
You can check that here https://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html
It has 256gb drive though, which is smaller to the option proposed by other guy, but its still more than enough to install pubg.
edit:
plus here you got Frames per second chart on modern laptop graphics cards in pubg:

You WANT to have over 60 frames per second for good playing experience.

I agree with /u/rise_against227
Look into the Acer Predator Helios 300 it has an 1060, 16GB RAM, same i7, however it does have only a 256GB SSD...but you can upgrade it I'm sure if you want.
Though I rather have a better GPU than more SSD space.
What on earth requires FX-9590 or above??? A deep fryer?
And it is impossible to get a 3 hour battery life under full load. Not in this universe.
What about Acer Predator Helios 300?

It should be more than enough for games you are playing -- enough to play them at max 60fps. It has a 4 hour battery for normal use which is good for gaming laptops its size.
I got this laptop and has played everything I've thrown at it great.

I purchased the 17.3" about a month ago. If you have a best buy around you they have the above model in stock (well, mine did at least).
Yes, it does get a little hot in my opinion but I just purchased a cooler for it and it's fine.

Your hard drives would be best used in an external dock. I would suggest spending the extra $250 in your budget on adding a secondary 1TB SSD.

$1050 for an i7, 1060 6GB, 16 GB RAM, and an SSD. I added an HDD for game storage as well. It's a pretty good deal.
But any laptop that meets the minimum specs AND doesn't have Optimus will work. (Until the last couple of years, almost all laptops had Optimus, but they're starting to phase it out in the newer- and higher-end models. So these days, you might see one version of a laptop with a 1050 or 1050ti that has Optimus, and the same model with a 1060 or above that doesn't. In many cases, the non-Optimus version will be marked with the letters "VR" or similar in the model name.)
Regardless of Optimus, the minimum laptop spec I'd recommend for a really solid VR experience is an i5, a 1060 6GB, and 16 GB of RAM.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD, Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK

Price: $1049 (probably $75 in taxes as well), payment plans are an option w/ Amazon. It's been one of the better bang for buck laptops in the past few years with great specs and is quite popular overall. I know it's over your budget by a bit, but it sells at $1k even often and is worth looking into.
Man, if you could only put a $100 more you could get this beast, I saw it on amazon and am recommending it to many people cuz it’s worth what your paying, kinda ish.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD, Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AKj5AbW2Z8YHE
Do you mean this one? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=twister_B07BBQNNL8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1#productDetails
Something like this would be the next step up, with a GTX 1060:
https://smile.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
The graphics card is going to make the biggest difference, so the next big jump up after this is a GTX 1070. Within each card you can pay more for options like a faster or higher res screen, bigger SSD, etc.
Edit to mention that for $150 extra this Acer is a huge step up from the $900 MSI. A 1060 with 6GB of VRAM will destroy a 1050 with only 2GB, and the processor is faster too, plus 16GB RAM vs 8. Only downside is the smaller screen.
You should be able to upgrade RAM and Storage for most of the laptops.
I suggest looking at Acer's GTX 1060 Helios laptops.

My 4 Suggestions are...
(Passcode for Lenovo: NJ*PERKSEPP)
All of these have roughly the same specs (I7 7700hq processors, 6gb GTX 1060 GPU's, 128-256gb SSD's + 1TB HDD, around the same display quality), the big selling points for each are...
I suggest, if you want a higher quality display, to order a 4k model for the Legion or Inspiron (I believe the 4k Legion goes on sale the 23rd for $1280), as they have much nicer displays than what most of the competition all have at this price point

For $800-1k, I believe this is the best you can get. I7, 1060 6GB, SSD, 16GB RAM
Keep in mind, most laptops allow you to install an SSD if it doesn't have one, along with more RAM if you went with an 8GB model.

I was in a similar boat. Wanted a well built, light, and high battery life laptop that could net insane gaming performance. Sadly, you're going to have to make some compromises if you're looking to spend around $1000. Here are some decent options:
Somewhat lightweight Gaming laptops:

Search for a laptop with GTX 1060, the GPU is the most important part for gaming, the 1060 should be good for the performance you're looking for. Something like this

It'll be my first real extravagant purchase and a 80k+ gaming laptop is a bit of a waste of money considering the free time I have/will have.
Even so, when I was little and immature a major cause of disappointment for me was realizing we couldn't afford a system that could run any game released in the last 2-3 years.
First world problems, but as I said I was little and immature. Buying a laptop now is more a juvenile gesture that gives me a pat on the back.
Being able to play Total War: Warhammer 2 is a plus, and, slight overkill...
Can't wait to get that cheque.

I have this laptop and for some reason certain games (Planetary Annihilations; TITANS and Minecraft are the two that come immediately to mind) can't run in fullscreen without a major FPS hit. I'm not entirely sure what's going on here, as my last laptop i5 6300hq and 960m 4GB could run both at a steady FPS in fullscreen just fine. My drivers are all up to date and I've tried to reseat the RAM, which had no effect. If one of you wants to help me figure out what's going on, that'd be nice.

May want to check this one out, impressive specs for the price point(GTX 1060, 16gb, m2 ssd, extra sata drive bay, i7-7700HQ, IPS display): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
However it is $1049 which is $50 over your budget, and there would be tax.
Personally I picked up a Dell Inspiron (7557?) It's the 6300HQ (4 cores 4 threads 2.5ghz) and a gtx 1050 4gb. They run for like 700 generally. I'd suggest a 1050ti minimum you can get away with a i5 for most games but a few will need that i7. Check msi, Acer, dell and probably Asus for laptops
Edit: here is an i7 1060 laptop
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1521867627&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=acer+1060+laptop&dpPl=1&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&ref=plSrch
This is the one I bought.
Honestly it’s $1,049 even without the sale I’d pay the extra $70 for a brand new one rather than refurbished
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522114865&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=acer+helios+300+predator&dpPl=1&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&ref=plSrch
One more question, I was wondering if you could help me figure out which of these two laptops are better
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1TS-000X-00PU8
The Aspire is just an upgraded version of what I currently have, and its cheaper than the Helios, so I was wondering if there's a big reason that the Aspire is cheaper, with the same parts.
I am going to buy a $1000 laptop and i am sure it can run Stormblood fine.. (but the brand is...)
edit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
I am buying the i5 version and sure it will run fine, but Acer is kind of meh but still...
I just finished my own laptop research with /r/SuggestALaptop here, and wanted to point you to my choice - the Acer Predator Helios 300. It sounds right about at your budget limit and is apparently an extreme standout at the price point. I also researched and found that the stupid-looking backlight keyboard can be disabled, if that helps.
If you have that much money to spend, you can get something like this : https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1502356423&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gaming+laptop&dpPl=1&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&ref=plSrch
Will do 60fps 1080 no problem.
If you want to game on it, try this, it's not the best around, but it costs 1000$ and you'll be able to game on it no problem (or look for something with similar stats)
just a random laptop with gtx 1060
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_13?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=oh_aui_i_d_old_o1_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought this one and it's pretty damn good. Haven't had any problems with it and it's a beast of a laptop and should play KCD no problem and it has 16gb if ram like your friend wants. You can also add another hard drive if needed or change out ram very easily since it has little doors on the bottom to do so.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Nothing super high end, but at the pricepoint it seems to be a damn good laptop. My only concern is how long that GPU will be able to game on at least high settings at 60fps.
It's an amazon thing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
I could add the $1050 version to my cart.
People really like this it fits all the dots, SSD, 1060 6 GB, i7 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Might want to check the reviews (assuming this is the same config as yours) for some tips specifically regarding the USB ports so you're prepared: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/product-reviews/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewopt_kywd?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews&pageNumber=1&filterByKeyword=oculus
Wow sounds like an amazing pc. I was looking around and I saw these 3 pc's. PC 1 PC 2 & PC 3 . They are similar prices with very similar specs. I was wondering if you knew which was the superior.
You should go for this.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MR82G0W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498640624&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=acer+vx+15&dpPl=1&dpID=51LptbJAClL&ref=plSrch
sadly for this budget you will only be able to run witcher 3 on medium settings for 60fps+ But games like overwatch, csgo will run maxed out on 60+fps.
If you can somehow manage to get 1050$ it would be worth every cent to get this one. Will run you everything and last for a long time for upcoming new games.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498640784&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=helios+300&dpPl=1&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&ref=plSrch
Here are some of your options:
Really good value gaming laptop if you don't care about looks, $1000, review here:

Here is also one with more elegance and slimness, but worse graphics card, around $1600, review here:

You could take a look at this, it has a 1060 and an i7 for $1000, the only problem would be storage but, defiantly better than an Alienware.
I'm an incoming freshman as well, and this is what I got. It seems pretty solid for the price. Whatever you get, I'd recommend getting a laptop with a SSD and a 7000 series quad-core i5 or i7. As long as it has 8GB of RAM you should be fine, and look for ones with dedicated graphics cards if you want to game. You should also make sure it has a decent battery life.

Okay great. Now I just saw the "Top Gaming/High Performance Laptops" thread so is there anything about this choice that would perform any better than these from that thread:

Acer just released this, $1099 with a IPS display, good cooling, 1060 6GB i7 7700HQ and a 256GB M2 drive. Very solid for that price point.
I did look at the Helios 300. Though I haven't looked at everything and I'm inexperienced. Buuut, you can get a better price for it with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYNQXCP/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 for a good 1,094 so you save a somewhat good amount. Though again I don't know basically anything.
The main issue with FC5 I had was the screen tearing was really bad without vsync turned on. Even with an FPS lock, it was really noticeable.
With vsync on, it sometimes dips under 60fps, but it's never stuttery enough to notice.
I'm at work, so I can't get my options, but they are all pretty decently high, aside from turning the occlusion down to SSAO and some of the detail/textures to medium on things like shadows and water. Still gorgeous and smooth to play at 1080p.
That's on a laptop, btw.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just got an Acer with very similar specs but a slightly bigger screen and $600 less. 256GB won't last very long if you plan on downloading a bunch of games/media...I myself plan on getting a second hard drive to put in my Acer, and that you can get for less than $100.
I get it if it's a comfort level with the name brand, but saving $500 or more is a decent chunk of change, too...
Just barely above his budget but what do you think about this laptop? Amazon's been trying really hard to sell it to me lol, it's on every page I go to.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1510005860&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gaming+laptop&dpPl=1&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&ref=plSrch
It is happening right now. I just got one.
Who buy stuff from Jarir, I found a Predator laptop in Jarir that cost 8k sar, I bought the same exact laptop in Amazon with shipping for only 4k sar, don't believe me, here's the link
Just because you bought the Oculus rift in a high price doesn't mean you have to sell it in a high price too, do some research before buying, anyways, good luck.
Edit: actually, I bought the laptop for only 3.5-ish, I think it was on sale back in the day
Would this one not fit the bill? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
You can add any size 2.5 hard drive you want. It isnt slim but with the specs you want I doubt you'll find something slim like an macbook or w/e.
Correct me If I'm wrong but, isn't This one much better?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=psdcmw_13896615011_t1_B076H2J8ZV

i just got this laptop which can run nxt on 60 fps maxing out all graphics settings while recording if you want an idea of what specs it takes
I know you want a pc not a laptop so im sure if these specs come in a laptop for $1000 you can build a way better pc for same price.
Your specs are almost identical to the laptop I'm considering:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
Leaning towards getting that one. I don't like the idea of spending too much money on laptops since you can get a super powered PC for a lot cheaper. I just want to be able to play this game on somewhat high settings.
Are you able to run nearly maxed ultra settings with those specs? Im concerned about the texture pop-in being worse on laptops. What FPS are you mostly running at?
It depends if you want a Desktop I will Highly recommend an ASUS ROG G20 series
https://www.asus.com/us/Tower-PCs/ROG-G20CB/
And laptop I will recommend an Acer Oredator Helios 300 or an Nitro V from Acer
Nitro V(5) https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/NH.Q23AA.001
Acer Predator Helios 300
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519245070&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=helios+300
This laptop no doubt: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527809223&sr=1-5&keywords=gtx+1060+laptop
it usually shouldn't be too hard to add a hard drive to a laptop
ASUS ROG GL703VM is $999
Predator Helios is $1040
I've been looking at both of them. while the ROG has some better specs with the screen and the HHD it had a much shorter battery life. Also a lot of the reviews complain about the ROG overheating and disabling the keyboard. My guess is that with a cooling stand the heating shouldn't be a prroblem though.
I ended up getting the Helios yesterday because it was on a one day 14% off sale, I have an external hard drive, and there are tons of positive reviews about it.
Here's a link to what I have currently: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
I believe it has a 256 SSD. I was going to use the additional drive as a place to store games while keeping the OS on the original drive.
Certified Refurbished, aka checked to see if it boots to windows once and thrown in a box.
If you're willing to have a more gamer-y looking laptop, then the Acer Predator Helios 300 Link: has a much more powerful GPU and isn't refurbished, but has a smaller SSD(that you might be able to swap for a larger one or a 2.5in hard drive if that isn't enough space for you), at $1.7K CAD.
Ill keep that one in mind, some people were mentioning it had an overheating issue though, what about this one? https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523254544&sr=8-3&keywords=acer+helios+300#customerReviews
I think at this price range it would be better to try and use a desktop not a laptop. Its been hard to find any for under 1k at these specs. Hopefully others will have better luck
I have heard some good stuff about this: HERE
And this one: HERE
I was looking and I couldnt find it on Amazon UK. But what about this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-Keyboard/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1525643386&sr=8-3&keywords=Acer+Aspire+VX+15&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Doesn't have hdd though. I'd look around more.
Razer blade 2018, gtx 1060. Batterylife is 60whr I think so not amazing but better than average.
800$ gtx 1060 laptop. 1000$ for 6 core CPU upgrade. I don't know about batterylife on this one but because of the ridiculously low price tag I included it.
very solid gtx 1060 laptop. Great screen and price. Battery life is okayish
decent batterylife, has a small form factor although it isn't thin. Also gtx 1060.
IMO probably the best all rounder laptop one can buy, rtx 2060 ~= gtx 1070. Is 1800$ though, you can look for an msi gs65 with 1060. Those are 1800 off sale but will dip much lower as they have last gen graphics cards.
EDIT:
alienware m15. The cpu tends to go very hot but your mileage may vary. GTX 1070 max q for 1500 is really good though, so here goes.
The Acer Helios 300 is the best bang for your buck right now since it's the cheapest laptop with a 6GB GT 1060 on it. You'll be able to play any games out today without issue and you should be able to edit and render videos just fine. I use a laptop with pretty much identical specs for editing on the go.
If that's too high for you, there's also the Dell Inspiron 15 7000. it has an i5 instead of an i7 so it's a slower processor and it comes with a GTX 1050 ti instead of a 1060 but it should still play most games on it, just at lower settings. it also only comes with 8 GB of ram instead of 16. This shouldn't be a problem for 1080p edits but if you uses a lot of effects, it can slow down render times. at least the RAM is upgradable.
I would strongly suggest going with the Acer as it's the sweet spot of gaming laptops right now. the performance jump between the i5 and i7 will be noticeable with render times, and the gaming experience between the 1060 and 1050 ti is a noticeable improvement and will last you much longer.
The HP Pavilion with a 1050 GPU is on sale right now for $710 here. That'd be good enough for VR gaming and most modern games at medium/high settings. Is that in budget?
If you have more money, the Acer Predator Helios 300 sells for $1050 with a 1060 GPU, which is really solid for VR, and the rest of the tech specs are pretty nice.
This one, that is.

1060 6gb great specs, not sure if this is available In your area but might be worth looking in to. Would be great in case you decide you change your mind and want to play a newer game.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-GeForce-Backlit-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504952128&sr=8-1&keywords=gaming+laptop+under+1200
This here is an Acer Helios 300 laptop. This is a very good laptop for the price. and it has all the things required for a great gaming experience. The battery gaming is 4 hours. And with regular use expect 7. The Graphics card is a GTX 1060 6GB. Which is amazingly good for gaming. If you are not a geek like me this graphics card is a new late 2016 early 2017 gaming designed graphics card for high settings gaming. Since you are using euros the conversion would make it 1200 US so you have 200$ savings. The CPU is also very good. the ram is 16GB DDR4 which is super fast. So overall it is a good laptop for your price range.
On the site, it will provide other information such as ports. and other specifications about the laptop. Each laptop comes with 2-year warranty. And I advise that you don't buy the 4 years as it is not that useful. It's also metal chassis so very tough and durable. It is also international shipping. Which you will find handy since I assume that you reside in a European country.
If you have any more questions about laptops in the 1000$ price range or any other questions be free to ask me.
I found this on Amazon but it might be US only: Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7 CPU, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, VR Ready, 15.6" Full HD, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0sBUzbQBR628A

Another user posted this, It's kinda making me think a bit, but what's your opinion on it?
Not saying this is what I'll go for, just need opinions.
This is $1050 but I think it's a good laptop if you're looking to play games in between classes. link!
This looks gross to me, but the specs can't be beat for the price:

This is what I use
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
Its got good battery life compared to most gaming laptops
Something like this would fair well in games. Has an nvidia gtx 1060 graphics card, i7 processor, etc. You may be able to sell the laptop and get close to what you paid to go towards something like that..just a thought.
If price is really important to you, I'd suggest going for the Acer Predator. The only problem is that it looks like Megatron's offspring but that is pretty much the only drawback. Otherwise great battery life, cooling, everything else you could ask for from a budget gaming laptop. Obviously doesn't have a premium build so don't expect the durability to be exceptional.
Here is one at $1050 from amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Processor-Graphics-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502640464&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+predator+helios+300
I was looking for a gaming laptop myself. Mine is a Clevo with a gtx 1060 but is really slim and light compared to most of the other gaming laptops at 18.6mm and less than 5 pounds. But the cooling naturally isn't great since it is pretty slim. It costs about $1400 depending on customization. If you want your gaming laptop to look subtle, here is a link to that as well.
https://lpc-digital.com/product/sager-np8950-clevo-p950hp6/
Here is another one that looks subtle. Weighs at a bit more than 5 pounds and stands at about an inch, but it has a really good battery life.

Not sure what your budget is, but you're going to be hard pressed to do better that the Acer Predator Helios 300 or Sager NP7850 on bang for the buck (Note NP7850 via Xotic doesn't include Windows in the price)

I am sure someone more qualified will be able to provide you with better info on the CPUs, as I myself don't know very much about them.
As for the GPU, I think it may be a bit weak for the games you want to play, as far as I know they rely more on the GPU than the CPU, so you may want to go for a laptop with a 1060. There are various types you can go for such as the Acer Predator or MSI GP62. There are many options, these are just some that I have seen mentioned and remembered off the top of my head.
Again, I am sure someone with better formatting and knowledge will reply, I just want to throw my two cents in case they take a while, hope it helps!
To agree: Apples are way overpriced, and they have shitty specs for the price.
For example, a $1300 laptop
with much worse specs than a $1050 Windows laptop
I'm searching for a similar laptop at almost the same price range as well, in the US... People have suggested Acer Predator Helios 300 but I'm not sure if its available in Singapore.

I think this is the best bang for buck you can go for:

MSI makes a great laptop. I have been using an MSI GS70 Stealth Pro-212 for the last 3 years and have loved every minute of it.
That being said, please seriously weigh out whether you NEED a laptop or not. If you do not ABSOLUTELY require the portability, go with a desktop (even pre-built) because of the upgrade-ability.
In most cases, it is better to have a gaming-centered desktop and a cheaper productivity-centered laptop for the same price point as having a gaming laptop.
I spent $2500 on my laptop. Today I am spending $2200 on a new desktop because I cannot upgrade my laptop and want to do VR.
For the price-point you are looking at, this seems like a really solid option.
Acer Predator Helios 300 is hard to beat for the price.
Well if you are willing to spend that much on a laptop is recommend one with a newer gpu such as a 1060 it has much better performance for your price range

Asus Zenbook
So my main questions:
Tech engineering requires 16gb ram, 7th gen i5 or i7, and 256gb SSD...
Thanks a lot btw
Today i found a laptop that actually got me to doubt myself, so please help me.
Should i buy https://pcpartpicker.com/list/r8F3Ft for 1200 dollars (Because the headphone and the monitor i would buy anyway), or should i buy this laptop for $1050 + a 2.5' 2TB HD?
Never owned a laptop before, don't really have the need for it except when rarely lan partying, but it's (almost) the same system and from what i saw it doesn't thermal throttle so i don't really see why this couldn't be my computer case, so should i buy the PC, or should i buy the laptop? And why?

that would be ok?
As an avid gamer, I might be a bit biased when recommending the Acer Helios 300 as it's more of a gaming beast than anything but you should still definitely check it out. Keep in mind the battery life on Acer's Predator series laptops is notoriously horrendous, but it's a fair trade-off for having 1060 and an i7 onboard.
The new Dell Inspiron series laptops are also solid bang/buck candidates with the added benefit of having excellent battery lives.

FO4 is pretty demanding. Go with an Acer VX 15 or a Y520, or maybe a Helios 300 if you have $50 more bucks than 1000.

how about this. It has a gtx 1060 with fhd 15.6, 16gb ram and 256 gb ssd. For something cheaper, maybe this.
I don't know if I'd jump on this simply because you can get one of the 1060 laptops for around this price that will be lighter and have better battery life. 8+ lbs and 3hrs means that you're generally not going to be able to use this as a laptop except in a pinch.
For example, the Helios is $1049, weighs ~6lbs and allegedly has 7 hours of battery life. I'm sure in real life usage you'll get far less than that but laptopmag.com did a battery test and got 6:48 out of it so maybe it really will last.

Hey, thanks for the help! Quick question - I'm compraing this to the $1000 laptop /u/shopineer suggested here. Do you think the Eluktronics one is worth the extra $800, and if so, what does it have that makes it worth that much more, and what would a realistic difference in performance be?

1060 under for $1050
Hey guys!
I'm about to start college and due to efficiency and mobility I'm looking at laptops so I can take it to class and such. I'm looking at something within the 1000~ range and hoping that it has decent specs that can run most games and also last me the 4 years I'm going to spend here.
So far, I've found this this and it seems like a very nice laptop and the 256 ssd isnt too much of an issue because most of my stuff is saved onto google drive or my icloud.
If anyone has any recommendations let me know thanks!
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1500751941&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289792011
This is a beefy laptop.
The second one will, theoretically, last you a bit longer since it's a newer generation graphics card (1050 vs 940, so it's technically 2 tiers above). And if I can play this game on medium/high with my 660 you can certainly plain on high with either option I'd think.
However, another option (if you can find it elsewhere because even accounting for exchange rate it's overpriced) this one has an even higher tier graphics card: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C
LTT Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3ZhmKWsQLA
There are a few GTX 1060 laptops at that price point, such as the Predator Helios 300 or the ASUS FX502VM. However, to get the laptop so cheap they had to cut a lot of corners, the ASUS in particular seems to have a lot of defects going by the Amazon rating.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/
Youll be completely fine with this.
I7 and a gtx 1060
Is it good, yes. Is it the best, depends. There are definitely better choices for the same hardware that are going to be way cheaper. The Predator Helios 300 has the exact same specs for $1000 less, but it lacks build quality, form factor, and general sex appeal. The Gigabyte Aero meets them both in the middle in terms of pros and cons.
But if you don't mind dropping some extra dosh on the table for a sexy laptop that will handle any 1080p gaming while looking like a Macbook's badass older brother, then go for it.
Good round up review of gaming laptops around $1000., but they all have at max a GTX 1050 Ti.
I'd err on the side of better graphics performance and consider the Acer Helios 300 that has a GTX 1060 for $1050 as well.

Heading to the Alienware page, that would explain why but the upgrades are insanely expensive. If you want a 1060 and 16 GB of RAM, you pay $1,400.
Full specs list for that one I was talking about:
All for a low, low price of $1400! A similarly speced Acer (yes, acer!) laptop is this which has very similar specs, except for the lack of Tobii eye tracking (a very niche product if you ask me) and an ssd instead of an hdd for a full $350 less.
After this, I'd imagine that I won't be going to that site much more for reviews.

Bought one of these last week and it has been great so far. It runs Witcher 3 in Ultra and doesn't have any issues driving an Oculus Rift. I haven't tried any of the latest games like Tomb Raider or AC: Odyssey yet, but it should run the games that you listed without any problems. Look around, because there are a few Predator builds out there and you might find one for a better price. Just look for one with a GTX 1060.

That's fair, but I would check out the sales to see if you can get lower. 1300 is a bit much for a 1060 laptop.
Especially with stuff like this on the market instead. Downside is this one does'nt come with an HDD, and I"m not sure if it has a second socket, but it has a 1070 over the 1060, and I'm sure you could upgrade the 256 to a 500 gig at least for the price of the one you linked.

I mean if you don't care about the 144hz screen @OP, if you you'd be willing to settle for the previous model (same specs iirc, 60hz panel) then I'd be willing to sell you my Helios 300. I added in the keyboard cover and a 1TB Seagate drive to the 2nd drive slot.
I really don't play much games anymore so I bought a thinner laptop. I'd give it to you for under $1k. PM if you're interested

Was that typo? Did you mean the 2016 model? I broke the link so this is the fixed one https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C?ref_=w_bl_hsx_s_pc_web_2528871011
this model was on sale for 999 usd yesterday, i think it has some heat issues, the previous model with the slower processor is being sold for more, not a good sign.

I got that a few weeks ago and it’s pretty good, but might not be what you’re looking for
Also make sure you use amazon.co.uk instead of amazon.com

I was looking at laptops since that would fit my use better even though I know they have a shorter lifespan and I couldn't find anything about actually building a laptop. I browsed Amazon to get ready for Black Friday but I really couldn't find much. The best I found is this but the reviews are mixed and it seems they have bad warranties and customer service. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/?coliid=IYLAPFZADNDUE&colid=388DMZGO18M3M&psc=0&ref\_=lv\_ov\_lig\_dp\_it

Any info about building laptops is welcome though. Thanks.
Please get this instead for 60 dollars more if you want good gaming https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1541451289&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=laptop+gaming&dpPl=1&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&ref=plSrch
Because of the CPU you’ll be able to get high settings most of time for AAA games
For 1'000USD we can get you something pretty great, probably with a GTX1050Ti, Acer has the best offers and since you don't care about weight, you should go with this Acer Aspire 7 or if you don't mind spending 50$ more over your budget, you can get an amazing GTX1060 in this Acer Predator Helios 300.

Am gasit si pe Amazon.co.uk In trecut am comandat o navigatie de 400 lei de pe ebay.co.uk si nu am platit nici un fel de taxa vamala, in cazul acestui laptop ma pot astepta la ceva costuri suplimentare ?

Possibly this one. I'm trying to decide between that costco one and this one: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
You could go with the Acer Predator Helios 300 if that's available and you don't mind the very "gaming" look.
