I posted above but this isn't really accurate with just this statement

Melee only runs at 60 FPS. 60 FPS = 60 HZ in that the monitor can only update when there's a new frame available.

The benefit in 120 FPS is that it will finish drawing the frame slightly quicker, but you likely are not sensitive enough to notice the difference without A/B testing 120HZ and 60HZ at the same time and feeling the immediate difference.

There is a 120FPS build that specifically leverages 120HZ monitors for lower input delay and it's still in beta/testing.

His listed monitor only has 10ms of input delay which is near the bottom of the scale. TVs can have 30-40ms of input latency so his monitor listed is very good.

I would only recommend a 120HZ monitor for melee if you also plan to play PC games on it that will actually run higher than 60 FPS. I can't see it making sense financially to spend money on a 120HZ solely for netplay.

Edit: I found a 75HZ IPS monitor at the same price range with 9.6ms of input lag. I recommend this monitor if your budget is under $150 USD.

The biggest difference is color accuracy and production on IPS panels absolutely eclipse VA panels. If you want something not expensive that looks pretty take a look at this for 1080p and this for 1440p

u/ShittyAssAccount · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Here you go it has slim bezels, sleek design, IPS panel, cheap price.

This is what I think is the updated version of that. 23.8 in, IPS, even slimmer bezels, can overclock to 75hz, AND its price is usually 129.99, same as what you linked

u/lazy-zebra · 4 pointsr/computers

Usb passthroughs are a more premium thing, and with a quick amazon search, I could not find one in your price range with a usb passthrough. You could always get a cheaper 1080p monitor, and get a usb hub
This is a good monitor

yeah im with you on the moniter but id suggest this acer one https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC its like the absolute king of $100-$120 ips panels (60hz but i have 2 that i oc'd to 75 absolutely fine, while the one you are suggesting is factory overclocked so it wont go higher, plus this one is reviewed to have better color that that))

I know two people who got this monitor this year and have been very pleased. It is only $109 so hopefully that fits your price range.

I play on a Samsung monitor I got back in 2010 and I have yet to play on a TV that gives gives me the same feel.

I bought this PC as is from Amazon along with the Acer R240HY bidx Monitor. Everything works splendidly.

I can run League of Legends on the igpu at over 60fps max settings.

Personally, I would recommend installing a graphics card and changing the PSU if you do so. If you don't want to reconnect everything by changing the PSU then you can get a card that runs off the power from the mobo (gtx 1050/rx460).

A bit weird though as my pc shipped with a 350w PSU. Maybe they thought they could cut the costs a bit by lowering it.

u/ohhwerd · 3 pointsr/xboxone

When i built my son his PC i got him 2 of these monitors - Acer R240HY

Which he also uses one of them when playing on his xbox, and i have to say, its clear, don't see any input lag and response time is great. I actually like sitting some days when i work at home at his desk as i can use his 1 monitor + my laptop and then use his other one to play xbox between calls, and it looks great imo

Changes

  • An i5 is really unnecessary for what your dad is looking to do. The G4560 will be plenty. 2400 mHz memory was cheaper.

  • 120 GB SSD. You could probably get a smaller one since the only real benefit for him will be the OS.

  • Cheaper case.

  • Cheaper PSU.

This monitor is one of the better 24 inch size deals going on right now.
u/irbChad · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Yeah if you watch their scratch and dent page you can get some killer deals, I got this monitor for $65 a few months ago

u/EvInChains · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I have the Acer R240HY and am happy with it. Super thin bezels, good picture quality and best of all, it can actually be overclocked to 75Hz.

u/lixxiee · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

I've been looking for a nice monitor in that size range and roughly a similar price range. My other requirements are IPS, bezeless and/or aesthetic, and preferably a low response time.

Results follow.

AOC I2379VHE: $165, 23", ugly bezel, 5ms

Acer R240HY: $180, 23.8", beautiful bezel, 4ms; my dream come true if it were at $150, like it has been previously

Dell S2218H: $150, 21.5", has a nice aesthetic but not the thinnest of bezels, 6ms; have it at $112 presuming you can use all the coupon codes @ here

AOC i2267fw: $140, 22", beautiful bezel, 5ms; almost certainly my fallback

u/edbtzy · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Not sure if its considered "the best" but I love the bezel and overall look of the Acer R240HY

It has good reviews, looks good on paper, and awesome looking.

u/StinginPlatypus · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC/

u/create-a-useraccount · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

I would HIGHLY recommend getting an IPS LED display which can commonly be found for $100-$110. The Acer R240HY is on sale right now for $130. The colors are just so much more vibrant and accurate with an IPS display over TN. Downside of IPS is that they are more susceptible to backlight bleeding and on average, are slower than TN displays.

u/Ve196 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

One last question: I'm getting my first monitor sometime over the next few days with a budget of max about $150 and I was wondering if the Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch IPS HDMI DVI VGA (1920 x 1080) Widescreen Monitor would be a good choice?

u/pddschild · 2 pointsr/halo

As many have said already, these things will only help, not turn you into a pro overnight. The smaller tv will probably aid you the most. Don't worry about getting a "gaming monitor" the benefits of these can only be seen on PC. I picked up one of these and I think it is a steal for the price.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0148NNKTC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

The color of this acer screen is going to be better than a benq and way cheaper and you wont notice a difference in lag or ghosting because you're not using a mouse and doing plus 60 fps

u/EpicPotatoLord · 2 pointsr/buildapc
u/Mod_Jez · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I told him that he could always get a cheap mouse/keyboard as well as a monitor. Something like... this

I believe this is the perfect IPS panel. Good for editing (I'm a graphic designer) and 1080p 60fps gaming.

4ms response time and 9.5ms input lag (did my research on this monitor). It was $119 and now $129. Hopefully it wont be more expensive when I get the money ):

u/DocNefario · 2 pointsr/gaming

Get this if you want your games to look good, it has slightly higher latency but I think the tradeoff is easily worth it. If you care about latency get the Asus.

u/PlayMp1 · 2 pointsr/PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Play letterboxed widescreen. It won't be as pretty but you'll get the whole inventory.

When you can scrounge up the money for a monitor (any monitor), I suggest this. It's about the best balance of price and quality you can get under $150.

u/Jesse_berger · 2 pointsr/Charlotte

I have one that I might be willing to part with. It's this monitor that I bought about a year ago.. Isn't VESA mountable and I just want to stop using a chemistry textbook as a stand.

I don't know how much I want for it, but it's about a year old so just make an offer. It has HDMI

u/rnbwmstr · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Ok. Yeah it actually looks like it's gone up even a little more for the 580. The pro carbon ac looks great but I can't find one online...at least through newegg, Amazon, etc. One last question, are you familiar with this monitor? I'm trying to find the biggest 60-75hz monitor I can find for $100.

u/DuRazziK · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc

I'd recommend the Acer R240HY for 1080p 60fps gaming at around $100.

Here is a 4ms IPS monitor that is very cheap.
You should read a lot if it's reviews before purchase.
Basically if you're set on getting a monitor below 4ms then you might have to skip out on an IPS display. Just bare in mind that IPS displays have better color, which is more important to me than refresh rate. Depends on your tastes. Maybe I can find one with a faster refresh rate, though.

u/pterencephalon · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I recently bought this monitor (price seems to have gone up a few bucks since I got it) and am quite happy with it.

At that price point, you'll be looking at 60 Hz monitors. Unless you're into competitive gaming where you need every tiny boost, look for an IPS panel instead of TN. If you want to mount it on a different stand, look for whether it has VESA mounts (the one I linked doesn't). Other than that, consider whether you want a glossy or matte display, whether you're OK with bigger bezels, and what amount of stand adjustment you want.

I also have this monitor at home and am quite happy with it.

u/S1iceOfPie · 2 pointsr/Monitors

This one looks like a close match: 24M47VQ.

However, if you want to try upgrading to an IPS screen instead of sticking with a TN panel, it looks like you could buy this monitor for virtually the same price: 24MP48HQ-P. However, this one doesn't have a DVI-D input, so if you don't have an HDMI connection to your computer and were connecting with DVI-D instead of VGA, you could try this Acer monitor as it's very similar: Acer R240HY bidx.

If you do have an HDMI connection available and a cable, I'd recommend this Dell 24" monitor for currently the same price as the above suggestions: Dell SE2416HX.

Hope this helps!

u/Syphor · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Not who you asked, but in my experience and my opinion, it won't be an issue for most people. There's a tiny bit of visual blur on fast full screen movements, especially when it's shifting wildly between bright and dark. For myself, the difference in cost - and I love the IPS color rendition, though other techs are close now - is worth the tiny bit of blur. If you're playing competitively, yeah, probably not what you want, but for everything else it's probably fine.

This is likely what /u/cloudaura1234 is talking about - we use them at work and I've recommended them to other people. https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-21-5-Inch-Monitor-22cwa/dp/B015WCV70W They're common enough there might be one on display at a Best Buy or something to try out first. Worth looking, maybe.

That said, Amazon mentioned that there's a larger Acer with a slightly faster response time for only a few bucks more. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/ I do not have experience with this monitor, unlike the HP, but IMO it might be worth a shot. Do note that it likely gets its higher response from overdriving the panel, which can cause ghosting as noted in the reviews. This can apparently be turned off.

u/ToxYixs · 2 pointsr/Battletops

I would say whatever you can afford, typically you can get a 24inch 1080 60hz for a decent price around 100 bucks. If you game a ton then I would go for a 144hz monitor, but for cheapest and soonest 1080p 60hz is good! I have a laptop and have seen people use a laptop mount to put a monitor side by side with laptop. Here and a cheap monitor link here (look at amazon reviews to see images of it in use) Also a mouse and keyboard would also be needed for an external monitor since you wont be using laptop one anymore

u/NCX · 2 pointsr/Monitors

That BenQ uses a TN panel with dull and uneven colors, very restrictive viewing angles and obvious overshoot ghosting. 1ms is a marketing lie along with dynamic contrast rations and 160 degree+ viewing angles. Many superior 1080p IPS/PLS panels with TV-like image quality are available in this price range. Amazony has the Philips 257E7 for 152$, and it is one of the best sub 25" 1080p monitors available:

https://www.amazon.com/Philips-257E7QDSB-25-Inch-IPS-LED-Monitor/dp/B01F91AKYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479399938&sr=8-1&keywords=257E7QDSB

If the Philips is too expensive the Acer R240hy is a great budget choice:

It really depends on what you're looking for. TN or IPS, 144Hz or 60Hz, 22", 23" or 24".

This would be one of the cheapest I know of but still just fine for WoW: Acer G246HL (TN, 60Hz)

If you want to go for 144Hz (which might even be worth it with WoW) you could get this one: Acer GN246HL

Or maybe this IPS one (60Hz): Acer R240HY

You can get an entry level 24" for around $99..

Or something a bit better for $129

I personally really like Dell monitors. The one I ended up ordering was 129 on amazon 2 days ago, but looks like it went up.

u/bohlingc · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You know, given that you have a $3000 budget, and depending on the desk space that you have, I would almost be inclined to get two monitors: the 1440p/144Hz one that you selected for gaming, and also a cheaper IPS 1080p one so that you have more screen real estate for modeling/editing.

This one might be good and would still keep the budget around $3000.

u/andysaurus_rex · 2 pointsr/buildapc

What you want in a monitor, or at least a low budget one, is it to be IPS, good resolution (1080p is really the minimum IMO), and probably matte finished, unless you like the look of glossy panels, which I don't.

Here's one that I think is a pretty good deal

It's 23.8", so a decent size, it's IPS, and it has a good response time of 4ms which is pretty much not perceivable.

Should do pretty well in the games you play, although I dont know if you can stretch LOL out to three screens.

I looked into SLI'ing two 1080ti's because it's in your budget, but honestly SLI is really poor in the current gaming scene.

It seems like nvidia arent putting much effort into supporting it any more which is a shame.

If you want 3 completely new monitors, the thin bezel ones are the way to go.

I recommend these:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496188199&sr=8-1&keywords=thin+bezel+monitor

Good basic thin bezel IPS monitor. Its only drawback is it doesnt come with VESA mounts for triple monitor stands but you can buy an adapter.

If you want ones with VESA mounts:

  • Acer R240HY: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms response time. Current #1 bestseller monitor on Amazon. Probably also the best price performance ratio out of this list.
  • Acer G247HYL: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms response time. This one seems to fit in here. Amazon reviews say they have problems with the DisplayPort, the monitor should be considered to be only usable with HDMI. Viewing angles are bad which I honestly can't believe. IPS is prominent for very good viewing angles. You can choose all sizes and panel types and since the comments for all products are crammed on this page we are probably reading reviews for the same model with TN panels here that aren't being sold anymore.
  • Acer G257HL: 25", the rest is the same as above.
  • Acer G277HL: 27", the rest is the same as above.
  • AOC i2481Fxh: 3.8", 1080p, 60hz, 5ms response time. Reviews say this one breaks very fast (after 2-6 months). So if you wanna risk that be sure to also get at least 3 years of guarantee if possible.
  • Acer CB241HY: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms response time. Yet another Acer model. Looks different but should technologically be very similar to the 3 first models. I find the lack of reviews disturbing.
  • ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD: 24", 1080p, 60hz, 4ms reaction time. Supposedly flimsy/breaks fast if you aren't careful. Much less negative reviews than the models above. Imo you should also consider paying for a longer guarantee. Be sure to check out different sizes and resolutions.
  • DELL something: 24", 1080p, 60hz, 6ms response time. Slightly worse response time but you can expect slightly better quality (i.e. stuff not breaking as fast) all around because DELL. Very new/young product.
  • Philips 247E6QDSD: 23.6", 1080p, 60hz, 5ms response time. Some negative response that say "bad quality" but don't state what exactly was bad about this product. Wouldn't care too much then.
  • ASUS VN248Q-P: 23.8", 1080p, 60hz, 5ms response time. A few people say this monitor breaks somewhat quick and that ASUS support wouldn't help very much.

Just to add to my other comment. If we're talking 60hz then the issue becomes the price.

u/Tetraven · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Looks like the Acer R240HY. I have one myself, and it's a pretty solid budget IPS monitor with slim bezels. No VESA mounting support without an additional $30 bracket, though.

u/z0mgPenguins · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Well, that's easy enough. Did a quick amazon search and came out with this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1501187605&sr=1-5&keywords=monitors

I know nothing about the color quality of this monitor so I highly suggest to do some further research.

u/David367th · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

You're already somewhat scraping the barrel when it comes to budget parts.

What you could do if you find them is step down the GPU to a 1050 or 460 and it won't hurt you too much, if I remember correctly I saw someone reviewing the 460 and it performed extremely well with Rocket League on ultra. Edit part 2: I forgot I mentioned this to some one else but EVGA's B-stock is nice if you don't mind refurbished parts. Usually they're cards that RMA'd for something minor or they lost the silicon lottery with a low overclock.

A thing with windows, is that if you're a student attending a university, the institution might have a deal with Microsoft and allow you to use their products -like windows- up to 100% off. So make sure you check there. You could also take the shady route and pirate it but don't tell anyone I said that.

Another, is that your monitor can be a little cheaper. If you're ok with 60Hz on the dot, the Acer R240HY is something I can wholeheartedly recommend. It's a little light so it wiggles around when you touch it, but otherwise its a perfect budget monitor.

Aaaand lastly, you can check out r/buildapcsales to see if theres anything higher tier at the price point you need.

Edit: for your LED strip, there are a lot of choices, so really its best to pay attention to reviews or see what other people say they use on like r/battlestations or something similar.

u/AmericanFromAsia · 2 pointsr/PokemonRevolution

Acer R240HY

It's pretty nice. 1/4 inch side bezels. Matte screen. 23.8" 1080p, IPS, 5ms. HDMI, DVI-D, and VGA (no DisplayPort but I use an adapter and it works fine). No built in speakers but there's a headphone/speaker port.

No Vesa mounts. I don't use monitor arms anyway but that could definitely be a deal breaker to some, especially since arms help a lot with lining up monitors but I had planned on just overlapping them anyway.

All in all it's not a bad monitor, but it's pretty basic. I bought it because I wanted a thin bezel for triple monitors and it does that really well. Really you're just paying for the thin bezels.

Previously I had the BenQ GL2460HM but sold it just because I wanted my monitors to match. That one is good as well, but it's TN panel. 2ms response time, had Vesa mounts, a matte screen, and speakers. The speakers weren't great, but they were good enough for regular use and if I wanted ultra gaming sound, I would use headphones anyway.

I don't regret my purchase but it definitely is situational.

Build Basics:

  • Great gaming performance for the money. 50-60fps at 1080p easy

  • 256GB SDD + 1TB HDD combo (No WD Blue) plextor and hitachi are pretty reliable brands

  • Huge side window on Phanteks TEMPERED GLASS P400. It looks amazing, heres a [video review] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaVmbStgW8E) by HardwareCanucks

Overall, this build is a great deal, but it is $50 overbudget. however, look at it if you were spending $25 for the SSD and $25 for the glass window. Its great!

As for a monitor recommendation, I'll refer you to a techdeals [video] (https://youtu.be/K0ZQUkuO7FU) where he reviews the [Acer - R240HY] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC/?tag=pcpapi-20)

Its an overall great monitor that fits any budget for $120.

However, if you want a piece of the technology that makes games smooth as silk, no stuttering and tearing, than buying a Freesync monitor might be a good option for you!

In that case I'd buy the $180 [ASUS VG245H] (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CMCrxr/asus-vg245h-240-75hz-monitor-vg245h)

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KO4518I/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you're looking to save more money / aren't interested in 144hz, you could just go with something like this:

https://smile.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495739542&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+1080p+monitor

Personally, I think going with the 144hz monitor is the way to go. You'll really feel that better performance in Overwatch / any other shooters at 144 hz

u/Flying_Spaghetti_ · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Depends how much you want to spend. Ideally something thats quality + has thin edges. So this Acer would be a good low cost option. Or if you want something really high quality (still 1080p) you could go with this dell ultrasharp.

Depending on how much money you have right now, I'd spring for a cheap 1080 panel around $100. This is mine and it works great. In about two months, or however long it takes you to come up with ~$400, spring for the new GTX 1070. It'll run all those AAA titles at amazing fps. Then upgrade your monitor as you see fit.

bruh, formatting. Press enter twice to start a new line. You can also indent using a dereference star (I forget its name) and then a space. i.e. "* item"

Here you go:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-AB350-GAMING 3 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($84.99 @ Amazon)

  • Monitor: Asus - VG245H 24.0" 1920x1080 75Hz Monitor ($179.99 @ Amazon)

    ---------------------------

525gb boot drive seems to be a bit much, especially when you have a 3tb storage drive.

Also 650w is more than this machine needs unless you plan on steadily upgrading over time. Otherwise a 400w or 450w psu would be perfectly fine while saving a couple bucks.

Last thing, that monitor is a freesync monitor. You have an Nvidia gpu. So you're paying extra for a feature that you can't make use of. I'm also pretty certain that minecraft is locked to 60fps so you wouldn't be able to make use of the 75hz property of the monitor either. I'd recommend a R240HY since it's ips so it'll look better in general and you'll also save a few more bucks.

Other than my comments, this is a very naice build.

Here's the monitor I'll be running with on my new build - monitor

Here's a good 60hz one - monitor

Note that both those monitors are on the small end. However, they're nice bargain options, especially the 144hz one - 180 is a steal. I'd go with that for gaming, and then explore for a good productivity monitor that is a little bigger if you want.

/r/monitors is a good resource for further help.

u/viperatedrko · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If your gonna be gaming at 1080p you might want to switch to the AMD RX 480 because your motherboard is AMD optimized for Crossfire and not Nvidia SLI if you so choose to run two cards in the future.

The RX 480 runs better, if not the same, performance as the GTX 970 and costs $200 for the 4GB model, which saves you $55.

I'm not fully aware of every monitor price right now, but I highly doubt you'd find 144hz in that price range. Probably best to just grab some 23in 1080p. You can definitely get an IPS for that price, though. I just bought one for a friend not long back for around $140.

I believe this popular one is what I went with: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/

Edit: On second glance, looks like you really can find cheaper monitors with a higher refresh rate. Honestly, just search the terms on Amazon and check reviews. I know that's not the greatest answer, but as long as the monitor has the specs you want and doesn't have horrible reviews, that's pretty much the best approach.

u/construktz · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you can deal with a smaller form factor, the Gigabyte P34Wv5 would be the way to go if you want to keep the machine professional looking. You can also get much better battery life out of these smaller machines. It's still 14", so it's not a huge loss, just 1.6" of display size difference.

However, I don't think you'd want to have multiple displays all the same size as the laptop's. I like to connect mine to externals. You could get two of these, then put the laptop off to the side. or get 3 and connect one via USB. It has VGA, HDMI, and multiple USB ports, so you have a lot of options there.

This is my bartop arcade that I built and I really happy how it came out.

I used the following parts from Amazon:

Raspberry Pi 3 Kit

Joystick and Buttons

Monitor

I used 3/4'' MDF to build the structure and had a buddy who owns a print shop design and print the decals for me including the marquee. Most of the hardware used for electrical was bought at a local hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)

Took about 15 hrs to build and was so much fun as is it to play with it. I mainly built it for my daughter which is just discovering retro gaming.

Maybe I will upload a video in action but everyone knows what it looks like and how it functions for the most part.

Free sync allows your monitor's refresh rate to sync dynamically to your GPU so that you can have no stuttering or tearing in a range of FPS instead of just 60. See here for more info: http://www.testufo.com/#test=stutter

It's slim pickings for freesync at 1080p right now, though, and it's gonna add to the cost of the monitor. With your budget of $200 I think your best bet is to get a 1080p IPS panel of whatever size you prefer. There is a [28" Asus] (https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/3yqy2g/monitor_asus_vn289h_28in_1080p_60hz_5ms_15999/) on sale right now for $160 and a [27" Dell] (https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/3yugpr/monitor_dell_s2715h_black_27_6ms_ips_w_builtin/) for $210. So yeah, basically you have it all right about ips and TN. I don't know what they stand for, but all I know that it's just the type of panel on the monitor. And the ips is just going to have way better color reproduction than a TN panel. I would go for IPS if you want better colors. And a cheaper all around cost. You can find any IPS monitor for easily around $150-200.

I will say that I find DELL monitors to run a little higher than most, but they still compete for the most part. I like this one cause it has a small bezel http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=24-260-217 it would be great for dual monitors with a nice dual monitor stand.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0148NNKTC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1487040550&sr=1-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&dpPl=1&dpID=519rzl-wIQL&ref=plSrch

Both monitors are 23" with a 1080p display at likely 60hz. They're both also IPS so they're better able to be viewed from all angles. The Acer has a 1ms faster response time but I believe that's the only difference. I'd be confident in getting either of these.

No
Then you are like me: I'm planning on getting 3 eventually and LOVE this monitor: EXTREMELY small bezels!

Don't know what your setup looks like, but I also found Acer and HP monitors with way smaller bezels and more attractive stands. They have more reviews and score similarly on durability and QA. When looking at the reviews for the Dell monitor, they seemed to comment on the viewing angle a lot, which as a secondary monitor, could be noticeable. Either way, here are the other two recommendations I would make.

Acer:

Hey guys,

Im finally looking to invest in a gaming monitor for my PS4. I'm currently playing on a 55'' HDTV, so I figure I'd finally get something proper for gaming.

I don't plan on building a gaming rig, or upgrading to a PS4 Pro anytime soon, so I think I'm leaning towards capping the specs on the monitor at 60hz and 1920x1080.

The monitors that I'm trying to decide on are...

  1. Asus MX259H

  2. Acer R240HY

If you guys have any advice, or any other options that I could look into, I'd really appreciate it. I'm looking for something below $200, with low input lag (9-10ms...not the same as response time), and preferably an IPS panel.

why not a ryzen 3600?

is a 144 hz monitor really necessary? I was thinking of gettin this monitor since it is nearly 100 bucks, slim bezels, 60 hz, and more importantly IPS display so accurate colors for photoshopping

u/AlphaDST · 1 pointr/Monitors

Тhis one already has reviews, AOC 24G2U review !!!

I've been looking for a monitor for almost a year, I was originally planning on buying a TN 144hz since I really don't care about the colors, but luckily this thing just came out it seems. I'm currently Acer R240HY and looking at the specs, they're identical except the Hz, I might as well just use them together in a dual monitor setup.

If there's anyone planning on buying a second monitor to pair it with this AOC one I strongly recommend the Acer R240HY, It literally has the same 23.8" screen, is IPS, and has borderless bezels!

u/sk9592 · 1 pointr/buildapc

By "budget friendly", do you have a price range in mind?

This Acer monitor is thoroughly unimpressive:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC

It has your run of the mill 1080p 60Hz IPS panel. There is nothing great about it, but thing particularly wrong with it either.

And it's relatively cheap at $110. Which is why it's the top seller on Amazon.

The stand is cheap and not very adjustable. I would never buy it because it doesn't support VESA mounting.

Personally, I would spend $30 more on this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDY3SJF

It is 75Hz and supports Freesync.

u/beamblast · 1 pointr/buildapc

Can someone recommend a cheap monitor that my system could handle at >60 fps (is 1920x1080 possible/worth?
) Also, what difference does DVI/Display port/HDMI make if I only want 1920x1080@60fps?

So far I'm considering this monitor, which I could use either HDMI or DVI for, and I like the thin bezel.

Also, would 4ms vs 5ms response time make a difference? I feel like it wouldn't.

u/c1a0 · 1 pointr/macsetups

They are such a popular monitor that you can find them open box for less than $100 at target, wal mart, best buy, etc. I paid $185 for the pair of mine at my local best buy. Also check out ebay for used ones. If you don't mind dropping to the 21.5 inch model, I see those all the time at my local Target as a $49.99 clearance item.

Do you want to mount the monitors? If not, these are a good budget option. My company uses these and they look just as good as mine (maybe even better) and don't have the thick bezels. HP Pavilion monitors are also a good and quite popular option if you don't mind the lack of vesa mounts. Lenovo's new monitors unfortunately removed the mount also, but the older models have it. Viewsonic is probably my favorite monitor brand, I have had 3 different models from them over the last 10 years or so. Like most new ones, they also lose the vesa mounts for the sake of thinness.

And if you want to go with only one monitor, you could find a used or maybe new 29 inch ultrawide monitor in the $200-$275 range if you search hard enough. Dell and LG have great relatively affordable options.

u/Fanc1dan · 1 pointr/buildapc

I probably have around $500 to spend right now and another $500-$1000 to spend in July. Including the two monitors I'm looking to get

But that's what I was wondering, if I need to get a combination of parts at the same time, so thank you for your answer.

u/wapey · 1 pointr/buildapc

That monitor is definitely a waste, and reviews for it aren't the best, I would look at ones near $100 such as this one.
I definitely think you need to consider ryzen also, esspecially since you want to do editing, the g4560 probably wont be enough. Also have you considered looking at the rx gpus? If you are ONLY going to play LoL you could even go for a rx550 possibly, LoL requires basically nothing to run. Also the g4560 definitely does not need a 3rd party cooler, stock i5's (non k versions) even don't, and if you go ryzen the stock coolers are great.

I'm thinking about getting a monitor to hook up my Dell XPS 13 to. Which one should I get? I was looking for monitors sub $150, and these four are what I've found so far:

Acer R240HY

ASUS VX228H

HP Pavillion 22CWA

ASUS VS228H-P

My thoughts about the monitors: I like the VX228H for dual HDMI (it'd be nice to be able to switch between laptop and switch without unplugging and switching cables from the monitor every time, but not having it isn't a dealbreaker), the Acer and HP both look nice too (I like me some small bezels), and the VS228H-P I'm not too sure about.

I plan on using this monitor for general use, slight gaming, and with the switch, so nothing too crazy.

ALSO, to connect the laptop to the monitor, do I have to buy this USB C to HDMI cable to connect the two? Or is there another, better way? Thanks!

I don't think you'll find anything that sized anymore. They don't really make 17" monitors or affordable 4:3 monitors. 1080p and 16:9 is like basically as low as you can go. An acceptable 60hz IPS 24" starts around $129 USD like this. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/

If you're not using a monitor mount, this appears okay and inexpensive. Also has very thin bezels and will match your current monitor's ACER branding.

That being said, I've never used this monitor. Just seems inexpensive and has nice bezels.

If thats the case, get this one. Its IPS which the colors look MUCH MUCH better than TN panels and the bezels are extremely thin. Also better viewing angles. Its display is very similar to the HP Pavilion 25XW (which is the one I have) and they both OC to at least 75hz in my experience.

u/wrestlingbear · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have the Acer R240HY which I'm really enjoying.

u/SBR-88 · 1 pointr/buildapc

That's an oldie one monitor. It's not even 1080p. Here are two choices.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_lTGkzbRZASTPX
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JGYM5H6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nVGkzb2BAE46X

Both are good monitors.

u/Chuckpwnyou · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

1200+ reviews and an average of 4.3 stars... lol yes it's a good monitor.

For 40 bucks more this would have better colors, but the one you linked is good as well.

Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch IPS HDMI DVI VGA (1920 x 1080) Widescreen Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TTCEDb91QP162
Been using this one for about 18 months. I think it’s amazing for $100, but then again I upgraded from a 19” 900p monitor so everything looks amazing after that.

u/not_so_plausible · 1 pointr/Monitors

The 3D is more for marketing and doesn't really effect the price so that detail can be ignored. If that price is too high then like I said before buy a used 144hz monitor. If it has to be brand new, which Idk why it would need to be, then get something with an IPS panel like this. You're not going to really find a new gaming monitor at your price range but at least you'll have beautiful colors with an IPS panel :)

u/maskedmoron23 · 1 pointr/mac

I had a similar budget as you and just bought this Acer monitor last week. It's not 4K, but the the colors are great and it fits all my needs. I use HDMI to connect the monitor to my laptop.

u/JACKRABYT · 1 pointr/Monitors

24", 1080p, ips. I had the older model of this one but from the looks of it they're the same thing. The panel has great colors, viewing angles and I never had a problem with eye strain.

Both asus and acer make really good cheap monitors, just look at amazon and any one around $100-$150 with a good number of reviews should be pretty good

Id recommend this one right here:

Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch IPS HDMI DVI VGA (1920 x 1080) Widescreen Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OnuiDbVSYAM71

I have a 27’ 4k HDR one from LG which was pretty expensive because i have an xbox one x, but any modern monitor should have very low input lag so you don’t need to spend more money unless you want your game to look super nice

u/lurksredditnoaccount · 1 pointr/Norway

Yes, I do. Taking a random example
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/
For this 110$ monitor shipping+import fees is 50$ to the UK and 100$ to Norway

Thanks for the link though, it looks pretty useful!

u/SkittlesSpartan · 1 pointr/Purdue

I could fit this monitor under my desk in Shreve and Cary no problem.

u/KosherNazi · 1 pointr/Monitors

> Do you care about IPS vs TN vs VA? Do you need wide viewing angles or accurate color reproduction?

I'm not even sure how to answer most of those questions, I've been out of the loop for so long as far as monitor specs are concerned.

I don't really want to spend more than $200, I feel like that'd have to be overkill for my daily workload which is at least 90% productivity software and reading pdfs.

Does something like this look decent?

u/dewzy916 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I thought having one IPS and one TN would be wrong somehow and it would be smarter to get both TN or both IPS .

I actually found this Acer R240HY. I'm assuming 24 and 23.8 are pretty much the same size and just same marketing bs with numbers .

What do you mean by being able to set them up? and thank you for the response .

u/Masashi12 · 1 pointr/buildapc

It doesn't really change all that much unless you're only on planning games like csgo. In that case, you're more than likely to get 144+ fps. Again, you're better off getting a good 1080 ips monitor such as this one

u/onetearfalls · 1 pointr/photography

u/wagwoanimator · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

My wife's looking for a secondary monitor that is excellent for colors. I assume she's around the $125 range at 20" or more based on this monitor she linked me to. I'm shit at colors and pretty easy going with monitors so I was curious if anyone had any good suggestions. She does graphic design for games as well as digital paintings. Any insight is helpful. Thanks.

u/usa4life · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

In that case, I'd go with [an i7-6700 paired with an RX 480 (once the 480 is back in stock)] (https://theaipc.com/result/c1467560648457). I'd make a change to the power supply though and go with the EVGA 600B. That puts you almost perfectly at $700, throw in a [nice 24" monitor] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/), Windows 10 at $86. That leaves you $90 for an extra HDD, a nice set of speakers, whatever you wish. You'll need a case, but in the MicroATX range you shouldn't have trouble finding one that appeals to you for $30-40.

With regards to performance, this should run GTA V on high to very high settings, may need some configuring, at 1080p and 60Hz. It's a bit GPU beefy, but that should let you turn up some other settings and probably improve load times a bit.

u/PickleCorn · 1 pointr/buildapc

Following up on a previously asked question:

Looking for a 24" 1080p IPS monitor. Should I go with either of these:

u/RedMage928 · 1 pointr/pcgamingtechsupport

Thank you very much for the detailed response that answers everything but it also raises a ton of

Questions

  • It says I barely use any of the total system RAM, is RAM not the monitor memory?
  • Aren't hard drives and memory the same thing?
  • What does the case refer to in "case fans"? Don't power supplies have a built-in fan?
  • Why do I need an extra 150-200w over? To be safe?
(Extending off of that, someone below has recommended a 600w corsair, from which I found this, is that a good fix?
  • On that note, is it compatible?
  • Where does the 2500 come from, in "Intel HD Graphics 2500"?
  • What does full spec mean? (Doesn't maximize the Radeon R9 380's efficiency?)
  • What's the difference between this and this? (holy shit gaming monitors are expensive, is 160 Hz really worth 600$ more?)

Bonus Questions (unrelated, feel free to ignore)

  • WPS = ?
  • Panel = Monitor?

Also another friend said that I should get an SSD so things can load faster, do I need an SSD? Also thanks for the advice on the case, I'll try to find a better one. Then you have ~$150ish for a keyboard + mouse + monitor. Put ~20 for a nice keyboard & mouse bundle. (You don't need anything fancy much, trust me. Plus, in the future, you can always upgrade your peripherals while it's harder to upgrade components!) Logitech Desktop MK120 Mouse and Keyboard Combo is 18.50 on Amazon. (I use the keyboard, my dad uses the mouse. Both are fine for gaming!)

Some nice 1080p monitors at the ~129.99 point include the Acer R240HY (recommended) and the ASUS VS239H-P

Cheers!

New to this so sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but I just don't get what makes the price of this monitor (before the sale) so much higher than something like this monitor. Any idea?

u/Klokinator · 1 pointr/buildapc

Let me go over my picks for you.

Number 1 best value: Acer 240HY. 23.8", IPS, and almost no bezels. 60hz, so pretty great for the price, with HDMI.

Number 1 best 144hz gaming monitor: Viewsonic XG2401/2701. It has freesync, the best color of all sub $300 monitors, and can rotate into portrait mode if needed. This monitor is fantastic if you have an AMD graphics card. If you do not, however, you'll either want a G-sync monitor (Much pricier) or go for a Benq and save money, since those lack freesync (Which doesn't benefit Nvidia cards anyway) but still have fantastic ratings.

Speaking of which, this is the best 144hz monitor without Freesync or Gsync. BenQ XL2411Z

Want a fantastic cheap Freesync monitor? Look no further than any size of these Viewsonics. Viewsonic VX series. All are 60hz but overclockable to 75hz (Nice!) and they all have freesync. I'd still recommend the #1 monitor I listed first, since IPS will probably be a lot better on your eyes, but these are great alternatives if you want a cheap gaming monitor and have an AMD card.

Want 144hz gaming but you're a cheapskate? No problem. Either buy the AOC G2460PF (Freesync!) which doesn't look quite as good as the Viewsonic I mentioned second but is $60 cheaper, or go for the Atron Vision AVF24 for an alternate, highly rated but lacking Freesync monitor. You can even get them used off Amazon for $150ish too!

Personally, I think for you, the first monitor I listed is your #1 best bet, BUT you can, if you really want to pinch pennies, go for the Acer H236L 23" monitor and buy it refurbished for almost exactly $100. It's also a bezel-less monitor, looks okay, and has high ratings. Personally, based on my research though, if you're going to buy this one new, go instead for the Acer I listed at the top, since it's IPS and this one is LCD. It still seems the better deal.

Happy shopping!

This build also removes the annoying mail in rebates.

As for the monitor, it only really makes sense to get a 144hz monitor for your main one because a refresh rate that high arguably won't make a difference for regular PC use which generally is the type of thing you use a second monitor for. Save money and get something like this for the second monitor. That does look like a great main gaming monitor though.

PS this is capable of 4 displays through the video card and an additional 2 through the motherboard/cpu.

u/hyggelik · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

No no no...if you have a decent GPU and enough real estate, get three monitors instead, preferably with thin bezel.

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-H236HL-bid-23-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00AZMLIDQ

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0148NNKTC/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687682&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00AZMLIDQ&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0NS7GVBAPR384SF6QN0Q

Three of these plus cables will get to to $500.
No upgrade in the past has changed my gaming experience like adding two monitors.

u/blacklegbrian · 0 pointsr/buildapc

You monitor is definitely holding you back here. I would look into a 1080p monitor similar to this one; https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=sr_1_4?crid=METONP82LHNF&keywords=1080p+monitor&qid=1549999582&s=gateway&sprefix=1080p+m%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-4

You don't need anything fancy, keep with a 60hz refresh rate and a 4/5 ms response time and you will be fine. You have a good system, only thing I would recommend changing is getting an SSD or even upgrading to 16gb of RAM.

The upgrade in monitor will help you out with how it all looks and runs.

u/jamesgangnam · 0 pointsr/Monitors

this, this, or this would do really nicely. The important thing is that it's an ips panel, meaning colors will look really vibrant and great. If you're not going to be using a mouse, you really don't have to worry about response time.

Edit: a word

u/mixtapepapi · 0 pointsr/FortniteCompetitive

It’s a decent monitor but it’s not worth it. It’s 180 bucks for 75hz. The response time is 1ms, which is good. However, a 100 dollar ips monitor will be better for console. My acer r241y has 4ms response time, but the input lag is only 10ms (60fps means each frame is 16ms, so there is no ghosting)

Pretty much, for console, it isn’t worth it to get a “gaming” monitor. I’d recommend this one, it is cheaper. Also it is still much better than a tv. My kd went from 3-5ish this season just because of the monitor

At the price of the ASUS, you can get a 144hz monitor, and then you won’t need to buy a new monitor if you ever get a pc

u/penisretard42069 · -1 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Getting a laptop for gaming is legit pointless unless you can not fit a system in your house:this is $200 more but its recommended

If you can get a desktop then what most people recommend is this + acer monitor
