This short microSD adapter will work in any Raspberry Pi case - including Cyntech and AdafruitProtrudes from edge of Raspberry Pi 8mm when installedThis microSD adapter also worked great in the Macbook pro - load it up with a 64 microSD card and you've got a ton more storage, but without the sticking-out of a normal sized SD.MicroSD card and Raspberry Pi NOT INCLUDED

Has anyone tried one of the "shortening" micro SD adapters, such as:

I'd like to know which Chromebooks they fit well in.
I had an old laptop that I had the problem with. I used one of the SDcard adapters to solve the problem. I'm not sure if this one (https://www.amazon.com/Adafruit-Shortening-microSD-Raspberry-Macbooks/dp/B00HV4YFYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494253570&sr=8-1&keywords=sd+card+shortening) but it was something like this that I used to solve the problem. Maybe you should check it out.
"Isn't too old" is giving the CPU short shrift. Other than the rare 3215U in the Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015, the 3205U is the newest Broadwell Celeron there is for Chromebooks. The only thing more powerful than these are the far more expensive Core i3 and Core i5 Broadwell chips in the Toshiba and Dell 13-inchers. In fact, the 3205U benchmarks neck and neck with the Haswell i3 in the older C720p and Dell 11.
I'm pretty sure the storage can be upgraded due to it being a Broadwell CPU. All N29xx Bay Trail and N3xxx Cherry Trail laptops have soldered onboard storage.
We're planning to outfit the my buddy's C740 with a 64GB microSD card slotted into a low-profile adapter that will sit flush in the edge of the laptop. That'll leave his USB 3.0 port open for flash drives and the USB 2.0 port for his mouse dongle.
I bought this one for my 9350 and it's perfectly flush:

I use this in my 9550. It goes in a little PAST flush, but I looped a piece of clear tape on it to create a flexible pull tab. I've used it for a little over a year now with no issues. I carry the laptop daily so it gets pulled in and out of my backpack daily.

Actually.
There is one way to "extend" it.
You need a shortened SD card adapter. Then take it from there.
9mm sd card? Thats quite a bit smaller than a micro sd card, definitely not what youre looking for. I believe youre looking for something like this. Its made for raspberry pis but should work for your case.

I use this one with a 64GB PNY microsd and I have noticed no performance hits over a normal SD card. I have a CB3-111 if that makes any difference.

Perhaps something like this:

Thanks for reminding me, I've been meaning to look for something exactly like this for my Asus C202.
Seems the best bet would either be JetDrive Lite, or buying a MicroSD card with a shortened adapter such as:

But if anyone has any other SD cards that sits flush I'm interested as well.
My eyes are on this one now:

There are sdhc card adapters that are stubby.

I got this one, it works ok. I think you could shave 2mm off the end too.
