The common cultural conditioning, instruction, socialization and normalization being what it is, the Patterns & Characteristics of Codependence seem expectable.

I caught a worse than usual case from my cult-bound parents (the children themselves of cult-bound parents). In that world, the Ps & Cs are more florid and extreme, of course. But the infection there seems to have spread well outside the "compounds."

I found my way out of the maze this way:
