Advance 375A. It’s slow acting ant bait, they carry it back to the colony as food. After a week or so of baiting the ant trails they’ve either all died or learned to not come back for the rest of the summer. This has been the only thing that’s worked for me in the long term. Everything else they’d just come back in a few days. Best $20 I’ve spent in my battle against ants.

Granular bait is a good suggestion, but Advion Insect Granules specifically are not labeled for Red Imported Fire Ants.
I typically used Advance 375A select granular ant bait to treat these guys during my time operating in CA.
Some ant such as carpenter ants have seasons when they are looking for sweet, and seasons where they are looking for protein.
Where the little terro bait stations don't work, I've found that a combination of the Advion suggested by others and granular protien bait such as Advance 375a will within a few days eliminate the problem. Fortunately my ant colonies have always liked to navigate by following door trim up and over doorways, so it has been easy for me to put both gel and granular baits up on the lintel door trim or tops of cabinets that are inaccessible to pets. Other placements include pulling out bookshelves to place it at the baseboard protected by the bookshelf plinth from interference by pets, and behind fridge and stove which are spots my pets cannot get to.
