I bought through Motorola and received the phone about a week later.

Nowinstock was useful for tracking when it was in stock at either Motorola or Google Play. I checked one day and grabbed it up.

Once you get the phone you'll need a cutter like this to trim your micro-sim from your S4 (same phone I had) to fit in the N6. I decided to go this route rather than get a nano from Verizon for a couple reasons.

• If I screwed it up and it didn't cut right or it broke I'd have to go to Verizon anyway and deal with their customer service. $7 was worth the shot to me.
  
• The Verizon store near here is famously bad at anything approaching customer service.
  
• I hate Verizon but I love unlimited data so I'm stuck with them.
  
  I just checked my VZW account. It displays the following message:

  I will say that I do not have any issues with VZW and my N6 other than the VoLTE thing I mentioned above. I'm expecting that once VZW releases their version or Google releases Android 5.1 I'll get the VoLTE and be good to go. Truthfully, I think I've wanted to use data while on a call once or twice since getting the phone so it's not been a big deal at all for me.
  
  All your VZW APN information is loaded from your SIM card anyway so LTE, 3G, 1x, everything works out of the box.
  
  One thing that bugs me about most Verizon devices is how locked down they are. I've had a Galaxy S, Galaxy Nexus, and an S4. Aside from the Galaxy Nexus everything has been a pain in the ass to customize. I don't know if you're into that sort of thing but I hate being locked down by a carrier. With the N6 I had an unlocked bootloader and a custom ROM on with no trouble at all.
  
  For longevity, I highly recommend the 64GB version. Since it doesn't have an SD slot you might be hurting for storage by the time another phone comes out that you want. That's not a huge issue for me either since I do not store many things on my phone. Music is streamed, photos are uploaded, and texts are of statistically insignificant size, even on 32GB.

Would have prevented the hassle of making a post about this and also having to deal with Verizon. I removed the middle man directly and cut the card. Works flawlessly. Just read the customer reviews.

The rest of the size is the plastic backing. You cut SIM cards with scissors or a SIM card cutter.

If you go to a tech that knows how to Google they can find that removing the SIM is fairly simple.

There are a few factors at work.

• Americans don't swap SIMs. This means that for fancy upmarket phones where a SIM will be a near-permanent fixture in the phone, the manufacturer wants it to take up as little volume as possible and doesn't care about user interface or usability.
  
  
• The larger size has no benefit. Again, until you get down to a size that is difficult for human fingers to manipulate, the volume of a SIM is mostly plastic and air, and that's space inside a phone that could be used for other stuff. ("Other stuff" is usually "more batteries".)
  
  
• Forced obsolescence. By changing form factors, the mobile phone manufacturers and vendors can force an upgrade cycle on you; since upgrades generally also result in new two-year contracts, this is a great way to keep you shackled to a vendor.
  
  The good news is you can get a regular SIM from your carrier and use a SIM cutter to reduce its size to Micro or possibly even Nano.

I currently have mine on Straight Talk. I originally had ST with ATT , but recently switched to T-Mobile (it's easy to switch back and forth if you want, assuming you get the T-Mobile MotoX or the GSM Developer Edition model). One thing I would suggest getting first, if you decide to switch, is a SIM Punch. The reason being, Straight Talk only sells micro SIM cards, but the MotoX takes a nano SIM. The punch makes it easy to convert a micro SIM to a nano SIM. Otherwise, you have to cut it by hand.

After switching your account over, the only thing you have to do is key in Straight Talk's APN carrier settings (they will email you what to key in, or you can google it), and you're set!

MMS works, 4G LTE works (except for with Verizon), and everything else works the same. Only difference is the phone bill!

You'll be fine. You'll need a nano sim. If you have an older phone with a micro, you'll need to cut it down (or use a tool like this). Either way, turn off your old phone, take out the sim. Pop it in your Nexus 6 and it will activate. I've had mine for a few weeks now with no issues (in terms of service or plan).

Yes, physically you can do it with a SIM cutter like that. SIMs are all essentially the same just in different sizes. You can cut a SIM down, you can also "pad" a smaller size SIM to fit in a bigger SIM slot.

We aren't Motorola so unfortunately we can't answer the first question.

However for the SIM situation, you can either get a new SIM or cut your old one. There are 2 ways to cut a SIM, the easiest way is to get a cutting device like this. The other option is to use a template like the one on this page and very carefully cut it with scissors.

Nope. Nano Sim, instead of micro. Basically you cut away almost all of the plastic. You can get a Sim cutter on amazon for $7 or so.

You can also just cut your existing SIM down to nano size.

This is the one I used way back when to go from my GNex to my 2013 X. That SIM has moved on to my 2014 X and working happily. Also cut the girlfriend's SIM from her S4 to fit into the 2013 X.

Back in the day, to go from standard sim to micro sim is wasn't that hard to cut down. From micro to nano it's worth getting a simple sim cutter like this one for $7. I've cut down my sims and for some friends - the sim cutter pays for itself.

You can buy sim cards on ebay - I've seen them for around $5. You can also try cutting your existing SIM card to fit the smaller size - you can find templates online that you can print and use to cut. Some stores might even have a SIM cutter tool that will do it for you, but I think they discourage doing that.

Sure. They could be coded differently in the system, but in the end they serve the same exact purpose, regardless of whether they're in an android phone or iPhone.

Uhhhhh... NFC-specific SIMs don't really exist anymore. It used to be a thing in the past (for Softcard/ISIS), but they since moved on into integrating all NFC functions into the phone. My iPhone 7+ came in a Red 1FF -> 4FF SIM package.

Right, they just need the IMEI of a phone (any phone) so they can activate a SIM based on that phone's SIM size. They could have picked an iPhone 6 or Samsung S6 for Nano SIM size.

That's what I'm saying. Its a bit 'unusual' for them to 'pre-activate' a SIM. Usually when you walk into a store, they activate the new SIM, and the old SIM dies.

It sounds like the moment you put the SIM into a phone, your current SIM dies, and the new one activates (basically mimicking how the SIM ships in your phone pre-activated). Assuming that the SIMs you received are indeed pre-activated.
