I'm gonna stick to that last sentence for my recommendations. Some of these are a part of the old canon, some are a part of the new, but all of them give you something new to think about when you go back to watch the movies!

> What are the best books on Star Wars cannon that are/'intersect with' the movies?

(Old Canon) Darth Plagueis, by James Luceno Remember that story Palpatine told Anakin about Plagueis the Wise? This book is all about that character. Not only is it one of the best written Star Wars books around, it actually makes the primary conflict in Episode 1 kind of interesting!

(Old Canon) Shadows of the Empire, by Steve Perry So Empire strikes back ends with Han Solo being taken away and escaping Vader, right? But then in Return of the Jedi, the whole first act is about getting Han back and Luke being a bad ass Jedi Master. How does it get there, right? Shadows of the Empire is all about what goes on between those movies. If you're at all a Vader fan, you'll love this book.

(New Canon) The Aftermath Trilogy, by Chuck Wendig These books follow Episode 6 and show the Rebellion as they adjust from being a large rebellion to the dominant force in the galaxy. The first book is shaky due to the creative constraints the author was under, but the second was one of the best Star Wars books I've read in years, and the final book will be about the Battle of Jakku, the remnants of which can be seen in Episode 7.

The new Star Wars book that came out in the fall, actually it's called Aftermath: Star Wars: Journey to The Force Awakens. It's a prequel or set-up to the new movie, from what I can gather. Reviews aren't stellar, but a big fan might still enjoy it.
