Since my last post, I have actually performed on stage with this set up, so I can also speak a bit more to using it "in the field."

I use Mobile Sheets Pro with my Pro. The only downside right now is weight, since I use it for choral singing which means holding it vs. a music stand. Now that display orientation is a basic setting (I set 90 or 270 degree rotation, depending on which side I want the screen on), I can use it like an "open choir binder" without needing to get into tablet mode for screen rotation to kick in. I find even though the weight isn't even between the screen/keyboard sides, it's still easier to hold the Chromebook open then as a thick, doubled-over tablet. It can balance on my lap while seated at rehearsal, for example. It still needs to be held up, just not really supported. If using it by hand, rotated screen almost always feels better than tablet mode because I can distribute the weight, even if the device itself is uneven that way.

I have a black case that looks just like a music folder from a distance, so I just put the Chromebook in this cover for performances. I miss the dedicated hand strap, and a pocket to stash anything else, but it looks just like I'm using a music folder (unlike a tablet would) so it works for me. The cover provides the feel and texture of a music folder, so it's not slippery like a naked Chromebook would be.

The real benefit is Mobile Sheets Pro, and being able to have an entire, annotated collection. Individual songs can have multiple audio files attached, too, so all my practising is in one place. Load the app, and I can play practice tracks, downloaded performance videos (I can attach a video file, but it just plays the audio) from YouTube, all in the same app I'm viewing the sheet music. You can make playlists, and for performances, put the app into "performance mode" so you don't automatically trigger an editing feature or anything other than simple viewing. (Or, my big fear, start playing a saved audio track! lol!)

It is PERFECT with the Pro in that the pen is stored right in the machine. I usually have my rotation set to 90 degrees, so that the pen is housed on the "top" and it's really easy to pop out and make quick annotations during rehearsal. Plus, this means the little flap that would normally be on the outside of the cover when it's closed simply folds in and covers the track pad of the keyboard, not interfering with the screen. In performance, I just leave that flap tucked in between the two halves if my binder needs to be closed (e.g. walking onto the stage) and it makes it easier to quickly and discreetly open as well. (A real choir binder, with a hand strap, can be opened one-handedly, whereas this thing can't, so the less "prying open" on stage, the better.)

The developer is really responsive, and a couple of times has sent me personalized apk installation files to test on my devices when an update went wonky. I can't recommend the app highly enough, and with my case, and the internal pen storage, this really is the winning combination. I've used Mobile Sheets Pro since my *very* old Galaxy Note 10.1, and even when that tablet got super slow and annoying to use for just about every other app, Mobile Sheets worked consistently well on it. It got to the point where that was basically the only thing I would use that tablet for. But when it became less reliable as a device, I didn't really feel comfortable depending on it as my music binder.

I have even used Mobile Sheets Pro on my large phone (Galaxy Note 8) when I was in-between tablet and Chromebook (performed by basically duct-taping the phone inside an empty choir binder), and it's still on my phone as a backup so I can review music quickly and easily even if I'm a passenger in a car, or wake up a little early and want to relax and look over music without getting out of bed. That's one real "pro" of a digital system: I have the app on two devices, and my library backed up in the cloud. So I can't really lose my music and am very unlikely to be without my phone, should I forget or have an issue with my Chromebook.
