  1. If you want to start with modern spider-man, I'd suggest reading from either Brand New Day or Big Time, which is where Dann Slott (current writer) started his run. Of course you just can just jump on with Superior Spider-man, which is the current series with Doc Ock in Peter's body being Spider-man (this took place at the end of amazing spider-man with the Dying Wish arc. The series is currently 20 issues in, so there's not as much catch-up. There's also Ultimate Spider-man that takes place in an alternate marvel universe that is also really good and has less continuity issues and is a modern retelling of the spider-man origin story and further.
After getting some reading under your belt, I'd also suggest checking out some of the books in the side bar.

  2. The absolute first spider-man comic is amazing Fantasy #15 from all the way back in 1962, and the first comic in the amazing spider-man main series came out in 1963. I'd suggest reading some of the early spider-man comics. They're a bit cheesy today, but still a lot of fun to read. You can find them in big collected omnibus form.

  3. Amazon is always a good bet for getting trades for cheap, but I like going to my local comic book stores. They need as much support as they can get and you can usually get the people working there to help you get into new series. Its also just a great place to hang out and talk about comics with people.

    Hope this helps :)

Q2. Latveria has been written several different ways over the decades. Some times it is a utopia with all citizens loving Doom, other times it's shown with citizens in complete fear over Doom. So basically it depends on the writer.

Q6. Check out Infinity, Black Bolt unleashes completely on Thanos and it's epic.

Q7. They're from special crystals created on the moon under certain circumstances.

Q8. Think of it this way, Inhumans can voluntarily be turned into Inhumans yet they don't have to be whereas Mutants have no option.

Q9. Just look at the Inhumans wikipedia page, there are loads of awesome Inhumans.

Q10. Big Hero 6 weren't created until the late 90s/early 2000s IIRC.

Q12. The the Infinity Gems are the remnants of one of the earliest beings from the time of the universe's creation.

Q13. The Sentry is a weird character, he was retconned into being an all-important character after he was created in the late 90s/early 2000s. He's....confusing, to say the least.

Q15. Jessica Jones was also a character created in the early 2000s but was retconned into being an important character. She was introduced in Alias and was one of the first "dirty and gritty" characters written for the MAX line of Marvel by Bendis, before he became the superstar Avengers writer. Fans loved how Bendis handled the character that she jumped ship into the proper Marvel Universe and has lasted as an important character, yet after giving birth to Luke Cage's kid she's sort of been forced into the sidelines and hasn't had as many cool arcs as she used to.

Q17. It's basically as you wrote it. Extraterrestrial sentient nanites infected Wolverine and when he refused to do their bidding they turned off his healing factor. They said they would turn it back on if he did what they want but he refused, allowing them to die off but keeping his healing factor off.

Q18. Captain America has the super soldier serum drained from his body which made time catch up to him.

Q19. He is not in the Avengers as far as I know, but I know the current version is supposed to be more of a hero. I haven't read the title but I know they last version in X-Force was a good guy. There have been many different versions, each one different.

Q20. He has a mutated brain that allowed him to alter reality yet it literally drove him mad doing it.

Q23. Purple Man was doused with a chemical that turned him purple and allowed him to work with pheromones.

Q26. Yes, it is. They just referenced it in a recent issue of New Avengers, saying that the Beyonder there was just a kid.

Q27. No, there are other characters with secondary mutations but some were quietly ignored. Angel used to have healing blood. Beast's secondary mutation was to turn from an ape into a cat, now he's changed again a few years ago.

Q28. I know they've referenced Superman in Marvel before.

Q29. Superdoomsday from Earth 45

Q30. I haven't caught up on Amazo Virus but I know at a time Captain Cold was a metahuman where he didn't need his gun, yet during Forever Evil his powers were removed. Was it a flashback in Amazo Virus?

Q31. Fear Itself was not really all that good. it had it's moments but overall fell flat. If you can find it cheap, check it out. There were some cool fights but not much lasted out of it.

Q32. No, the new Thor's identity has not been revealed.

Q33. The Spider Totem is a theme in all universes that bridges between man and beast, or in this case man and spider. So every universe has a special Spider-character and the recent Spider-Verse showcased all the various examples and how different they are while a team of vampire-like beings preyed upon them. There are other totems as well, such as a Panther totem.

Q34. Morlun is part of a vampire-like family that prey on different totems with the spider totem being their favorite. They're top echelon strength and healing, highly intelligent, etc.

Q35. Quantum Storm was in the Countdown: Arena mini-series only, he's from Earth 37.

Q36. Here's the wikia on Ten Rings. Not much info on them.

Q37. Don't read the title but this is what I found: Spider-Man (Miles Morales), the new Black Widow (and former Spider-Woman), Kitty Pryde, Bombshell and Cloak and Dagger. I know Cap was president but did a kamikaze to save people, and Hank Pym also turned kamikaze by getting a swarm of Multiple Men who were loaded with bombs to "safely" detonate in the ocean away from the rest of society.

Q38. There were quite a lot, but it's been so long I can't remember all. There was also Tarpit and Hunter Zolomon, plus a new Trickster.

Q39. Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus vol 1

Q40. There are a lot of various Ditko hardcovers out there, do an Amazon search for better results.

Q42. The relics or artifacts were from the first(?) King of Atlantis and were incredibly powerful in their own way. In Death of the King, Aquaman combines all 7 and becomes a force to be reckoned with.

Q45. Even though she's Russian she's acclimated into US culture long ago.

Q46. No easy way to break it down since it's so long, just read a Wikipedia article for whatever you're interested in. They did interesting things like kill of Peter Parker and other famous heroes. Plus it's ending soon so it's kind of a moot point.

Q47. Justice League has had it's ups and downs. I used to collect it monthly but stopped as I felt it was slipping. They've done interesting things. Throne of Atlantis was a lot of fun.

Q50. The helmet is to allow him to safely expand his skull to use more of his brain as well as contact an AI(?) that he created.
