If you ever need cheap batteries and no discount/coupons are going on for them Amazon has some pretty reasonably priced ones under their AmazonBasics brand. They're not discounted but the prices are pretty good (48 AA for $12.49 / 20 AAA for ~$6.64).
Have you considered rechargeable batteries?
I made the switch and I find it nice to not have to worry about buying more. The initial investment may make it seem expensive though. The trick is to always have spares lying around and to top them off if they've been sitting for a few months (since they discharge slowly).
There's of course the Eneloop ones which are probably the best but the Amazon Basics brand has batteries at a more reasonable price if you don't need the extra bit of capacity and slower discharge rate.
Anything that is carried by Amazon.ca (not a third party) usually beats Canadian retail or at the very least matches it.
Any Canadian who is not checking Amazon.ca before buying retail is throwing money out the window.
Example: I needed double A batteries. I was at a metro grocery store. I could have paid 12 bucks for 4 batteries but I look online and I get 48 for 16.99

In Toronto I usually get it the next day or the day after that so the premium that Canadian retailers are charging for being able to get it immediately is too high.
I could really use some AA batteries. Seems like all of batteries in the house died at once!
Have you been tent camping before? This may seem like the cheapest way to go, but if you don't already have your camping equipment already this can be an expensive way to go.

I'm leaving some stuff out, but you're looking at about another $209 added to the cost of staying at Fort Wilderness.
Let's not forget that if you aren't sure about being comfortable with tent camping, It rains like you've rarely ever seen every day in Florida. Usually for short periods of time, but are you willing to tent camp in a tropical rainstorm over night?
I am a huge advocate of Fort Wilderness. I've loved the place since my parents took me there as a child (with a pull behind RV) in the mid 1970's. I suggest you go to the Chip and Dale Campfire Sing-A-Long, and Movies Under The Stars while you are there. If you can afford it go to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue as well. However, tent camping in Florida is quite different than tent camping anywhere else. Maybe wait a little longer until you can afford to stay at one of the All-Star resorts.

Chargeable AA/AAA batteries have a very low charge life, and require you to babysit a battery charger somewhere in the house. It's silly. I buy Amazon batteries which actually last a very long time and are incredibly affordable, and haven't included mercury for decades and as such are safe to throw away.

I bought 48 AA Batteries from amazon. Take a look at some of the customer images to see the type of box they shipped in.
The box they came in is great for storing GB and GBC games on their side. I dont know how larger GBA games compare... I do NOT recommend buying this just for the box. But if you are in need of some AA batteries, you might find the box here useful as well.
I've found these work really well and the price is great. They come in a hard cardboard box so they have their own storage.

By what standard are you calling them expensive? I'd say 48 batteries for $11.49 is very cheap!
I did some basic research on shipping gasoline and the handling fees for dangerous goods are insane. So that's not viable. A lot of the other stuff can be added to Amazon subscribe and save (batteries, pet food, soda) and I don't want to compete with them. Are you familiar with Amazon subscriptions?
