I did a group test on USB3 extenders here is what I found out :

I tested using an Asus z170 Deluxe motherboard it has both Intel and AsMedia USB3 ports. I also used the Oculus recommended Inatek 7 port USB 3 Card.

——Worked——

Cables in this category mean the sensor detected as USB3 in Oculus devices and didn’t lose connection and provided solid tracking testing with the headset on, no matter what brand of USB3 port it was connected to (Intel, AsMedia,Inatek).

(picture seems to be wrong on amazon website, also note this cable seems to be sold as various brands but I'm pretty sure its all the same cable, it should look like this

Detected as USB3 when using the InatekCard (which has extra power from a SATA power connector)

Detected as USB2 when using motherboard Intel or AsMedia USB3 ports

Only worked as USB 3 in one of the AsMedia ports and only when everything else was disconnected. Was USB2 or has an error in other AsMedia or Intel ports. Detected as USB3 in the Inatek Card and seemed ok testing in Oculus home loading area.

Great idea!

You can use short extension cables for the headset, and keep the cables plugged into the computer. I just bought these.

Cable management for sure. Maybe a better desk down the line, but cable management is probably the cheapest and most effective way you could improve your battlestation right now.

Especially the mouse; why is that plugged into your case front I/O and not the rear? If the cord's too short, you can get USB extension cords for about $5 in a variety of lengths such as 1 meter or 3 meter.

Amazon makes some pretty good USB mics for not too much and USB extenders are cheap. I think they even make USB to aux adapters. I'd say that's the cheaper more cost effective method honestly

Or just buy some USB extensions and have the plug on your desk. I have one of these at each station I use (Room, Home office and office so I never go under the desk. I just put it on my desk and plug in there. Just have the cable above the table and you never have to reach under . http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Extension-Cable--Male--Female/dp/B00NH13UFQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1448928055&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+3.0+extension

How is this supposed to work? He would still need an adapter with both female A and C.
Maybe you misunderstood what he wants, he wants to use his existing USB C-to-C cable (both ends male, naturally) and make a USB-A female to USB-A male cable, just like the one you linked.

Just going to paste this verbatim from a thing I posted for work:

> Have you ever used a USB HUB? Probably. But have you ever used a hub in conjunction with a wireless mouse and/or keyboard dongle? If so, I'd wager you've found that your keyboard and/or mouse doesn't work well. Probably a little skippy, herky-jerky, and you miss the odd keystroke from the keyboard?  I've seen this exact thing with many different USB hubs, and many different wireless dongles.

> Well I've experienced this for quite a long time and could never really figure out why. So finally after going down a Google rabbit hole yesterday, I found some dodgy tech message board where a poster claimed the problem was radio interference from the USB hub itself. Apparently most USB hubs happen to produce radio interference right in the 2.4Ghz spectrum, which is what the vast majority of wireless mice/keyboards use. On top of that, very few USB hub manufacturers properly shield these hubs from that interference, which is why this is a problem when using an external hub but not when plugging directly into your desktop or laptop (those are properly shielded, always).

> So I simply grabbed a USB extension cable and put it between the dongle and the USB hub...and BAM. Problem solved. A long-standing minor annoyance put to bed.

Anyway don't know if that is your issue at all. But you mention a USB hub and so I mention this. The steam controller does operate in the 2.4Ghz spectrum.

This what I use when ever I use a USB drive stick to avoid heat issues the USB port on Shield generates a lot of heat when a thumb drive is plug in.

https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-Reader-RS-MMC-Support-Warranty/dp/B006T9B6R2 is what I use with an extention cable so I don't have to access the desktop each time

https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Extension-Cable-Male-Female/dp/B00NH13UFQ will work so you don't have to plug into the desktop each time.

u/bothunter · 1 pointr/techsupport

That will probably work. One thing I would suggest is adding a USB extender cable if you can get it without paying extra shipping. Typically the back of a desktop computer is too noisy for Wifi, and you'll have better results if you can move it away from the case.

Is there a difference in terms of reliability when it comes to a USB extension cable versus a longer USB cable? My USB hub is far away from the device that I need to connect and I just want the best solution.

The H500 as stated uses 2X USB 2.0 and 2X USB 3.1 gen 1 ports (formerly known as USB 3) . For those you are going to need 1 USB 2.0 header and 1X USB 3 header on your motherboard. All ATX mother boards on the market today have those headers. One problem that might arise is if you have a motherboard with just 1X USB 2 header is if you want to use other internal equipment such as AIO coolers or RGB controllers that also need internal USB 2 headers for communicating with their software. Then you will not have enough ports available. In such a situation you need to get an internal USB HUB such as the NZXT Internal USB HUB that you connect to 1 USB 2.0 header on your mother board. That HUB will give you 3 internal USB headers and 2 regular USB external ports inside your case. It is powered by a molex connector, is available on Amazon around $20. If you buy the H500M case that uses 4 X USB 3.1 gen 1 ports on the front panel but you only have 1X USB 3 header on the mother board then you have 3 options to get all 4 ports working. One is to simply buy a internal usb 3 to usb 2 adapter cable and hook 2 of the front ports to a internal USB 2 header. But that means you have converted 2 of the ports to regular USB 2 speeds. Second option is to get one of these cables: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Akasa-AK-CBUB12-30BK-External-Adapter-Cable/dp/B009YGAET8/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=internal+usb+3+to+external+usb+3+header&qid=1568325524&s=computers&sr=1-10 then hook that adapter cable up to 2 X USB 3 type a female to usb type a male cables ( https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Extension-Cable-Male-Female/dp/B00NH13UFQ/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=usb+3+female+to+male+cable&qid=1568326034&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzUTI3M01QS0dQTVdFJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODg0OTA2M0lFOFkwMVdKWkNKSCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzgzMjIwU0VMWE9IR01aSTZLJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== ) so that you can reach to the back side of your case and route the cable outside the case trough the provided PCI bracket. Once outside the case you can hook them up to 2 of the rear USB 3 ports or a external USB 3 HUB that is then connected to one of the rear USB 3 ports on the back of the mother board I/O panel.

Third option is to use this internal USB 3 HUB by Sabrent (only one on the market): https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Port-Internal-Controller-HB-INTR/dp/B0794V75LB/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sabrent+internal+usb+3+hub&qid=1568326226&s=gateway&sr=8-3 Using this you do not need to route cables to the outside of the case and no need to use the back ports of the mother board. It works the same way as the NZXT Internal USB 2 HUB. But if you read the reviews you can see many reports having problems with it when powering it trough the SATA power. So beware of that!
