I read that book (And I Don't Want to Live This Life) as a kid. She was born with terrible mental illness, and drugs exacerbated it of course. The rest of the family seemed relatively unassuming, can't imagine what they went through while she was growing up.
Sid Vicious had a pretty shit life but it was his girlfriend, Nancy Spungeon, who had a really fucked up life (stabbed to death by Sid). Her mother Deborah Spungeon wrote a book about Nancy's whole life and all the crap they went through, its called 'And I don't want to live this life'. It's an amazing book and would definitely recommend it.

I couldn't see if anyone had posted anything about this already, but this story and the things that Janni is going through seem almost identical to that of Nancy Spungen. Deborah Spungen's book And I Don't Want To Live This Life, highlights so many of these issues and Nancy herself was placed in a psych ward for schizophrenia.
