I went with an Anker USB block and am currently using the standard cables they included with the charger (link below, more info in the next blog post).

So far everything’s been fine, but I haven’t put them under any load. Good thing to consider! This makes me think I should eventually add an LCD to each node that shows its IP, temp, and power consumption.

Based on the information found here a fully loaded Pi 3 is gonna pull about 6W, times three nodes, plus my Ethernet switch (5W). Total max load is ~23W, and the unit claims 40W. I think I should be fine, but I will also be disabling HDMI on the Pis as well which should cut down power consumption some.

Thanks for getting me thinking! I’ll explore all of this in the next blog.

this is the one i bought, i think this is the one he's talking about. It's also on the front page of the sub right now with a promo code (but it doesnt work if you buy the one that includes the cables)

Honestly, I just bought one of these a while ago. It'll push the max current your devices will allow up to 2.4a. It's slightly less voltage (but same or greater amperage) theoretically, but I can also charge my tablet, my gf's iPad, my Moto 360, and my iPhone all at the same time, so... there's that.

I don't know of a special name for it, but is this what you were looking for?

I bought this one about 10 days ago:

I only have 2 devices hooked up at the moment, but so far it's working well.

It definitely wasn't the cheapest option, but the customer reviews were pretty solid, and I really needed the included extra USB cables.

I had a bunch of micro usb cables laying around the house from this and that - plugged them into my computer and they've charged the phones and kept them running quite well. That said I'm in the middle of buying a hub with micro usb chargers on Amazon.ca: (not sure how to post a text link here) http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00M8XYJ6I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AREE309N4XPXI

in an effort to keep the clutter around my computer to a minimum. I've seen that mono price has cables for super cheap but that shipping sometimes takes a week.

The last one of these lists someone mentioned the USB Phone chargers. A++ Idea. I bought one and use it all the time, not just at the park.

You can get a good one for $20 atm. Even has a flashlight. It will completely charge 4 to 5 phones http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LNT1GJG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also picked up a 5 USB port desktop charger. One plug replaces 5 chargers and wall warts. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M8XYJ6I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use this and works wonderfully. Its better to buy one of these than use a surge protector so that you have less wires. This

These worked better than I expected. Charged my switch from 20% to 100% in less than 4 hours when plugged into one of these.

I personally have an Anker 5 port charger that should be faster than the Moto turbo charger. It's 2.4 amps in each port up to 8amps at a time. They have a car charger just as kick ass too.
