I have a few things that are similar to this that are laying around

I personally don't find them useful. I don't carry around a bunch of stuff. 1 USB drive in my pocket, the stupid iPhone X headphone dongle, and thats it.

Each of my backpacks are kitted out with their own Anker battery pack with a Lighting, USB-C, MicroUSB combo cable.

So my work backpack has a battery pack and 1 cable, my personal laptop bag has the same, my travel bag has the same, heck even my beer league softball bag, and pool cue case have the same setup.

My laptop backpacks all have a spare Laptop charger in them so I never have to unplug the one I use at home.

Is what you have currently too bulky for your needs? Most universal adapters are pretty clunky but if you're staying in one area for an extended period of time you could pick up the adapter just for that region.

the anker powercore 5000 is a battery pack + wall plug that has 2 USB(A) ports. Could potentially save weight as it's multipurpose, but it depends on how much you use a powerbank.

I've got a couple of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K702S66/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_--hpDbZZVES0Kwe

We took one with us on each of our last 2 trips. Works great as you don't need a separate charger for your device and one to replenish your battery pack at night. Just plug the pack directly into the outlet (the prongs fold away) and plug your device into it. Both charge simultaneously. We actually plugged both of our phones into it at night and in the morning all three were ready to go. Didn't even bring a standard charger block with us.

Not sure how long it would last but I love this thing for being a pass-through charger and battery all in one

u/gValo · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Do we know the length of the USB-C cable that comes with the pro controller?

I travel on trains a lot for 2+ hours and would like to get a longer cable (like 6ft-ish) so I can plug it in on the train and have plenty of slack so if I don't get a window seat, I'm not stretching a cable tightly across another passenger.

I was looking at this cable and this charger for my trips.

eReader full of books. eInk version. They'll run forever on a battery charge, easier on the eyes / don't f with sleep as much as an LCD screen, most of them nowadays are waterproof (hot tub, bathtub)...

Aleve.

Deodorant (separate from the one in the dopp kit; e.g., I keep a travel stick in my flight bag).

A dopp kit with all the usual stuff (razor, shaving soap or cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, decent shampoo / conditioner, etc).

Decent set of headphones. (Lately, that's been the QC35s, but I've also been known to carry the Backbeat Go 2 set with Comply foam tips - they don't really work for me but they work for a lot of people. (The last in-ear phones I found that worked reliably for me were Shures, I think SE210s?)

You mentioned a charger, but I'd go one better with the Anker PowerCore Fusion, Portable Charger. It's both a charger and a portable battery pack.

Do you wear an Apple Watch or something else that needs recharging? Charger for that.

u/DanniAnna · 2 pointsr/Ultralight

i have an almost identical Anker version. its the bees knees for shorter trips between charges since its only 5k but definitely a convenience

Yeah, I know! I wish my school allowed it.

The Anker charger does great! It actually is capable of plugging into an outlet, so whenever I go on trips I just take that with me so I can charge my stuff at night or on the go with the same charger. You should definitely consider picking one up.

I would second the hard drive situation. I would instead maybe subscribe to a Flickr account or something while I am traveling, and upload photos from my ipad/laptop whenever i get internet. I would maybe keep 1 portable ssd (like the Samsung T5 500gb) as its really lightweight, and wouldnt get damaged from being thrown around. Use that for backing up things when I dont have internet.

Are you planning on taking a laptop? If so which one?Because you can actually get multi-port chargers with USB C Power delivery so you can carry one brick for charging. Alternatively, I have seen Anker with USB chargers with built in batteries

I would say take your gopro with you. Especially if you like anything sporty, kayaking, gokarts, zip lining etc. I have had friends who took their gopro and left their dslrs when they go away.

I agree about the multiple lenses, think about taking a multi zoom (the 18-55 F2.8-F4 will be awesome for this) and maybe a fixed prime (I like the 23mm F2 - the 35mm equivalent focal length is really amazing). If you want to travel light, I would skip the telephoto. Also, dont forget the extra batteries.

If you havent gotten the XT1 yet, consider getting the Olympus EM5ii second hand with the 14-150mm or the newer 12-200mm lens. You will not need anything else, in rains, storms, snow, deserts or anywhere.

I would say pack a GOOD rain jacket. You are traveling to SE Asian counties, rain is going to be very common. You want to make sure you have a good rain jacket. I would say if you can get a back that includes a rain cover, its a good idea. There is nothing as bad as getting somewhere and finding everything in your bag is drenched. On a trip to europe, I was hauling my bags in the rain from a train station to the hostel and my things in the bag did get a little wet.

Did you consider the Peak Design travel pack? Or the Topo designs travel bag? They are also good alternatives if you were still undecided on the travel pack.

Instead of the sweater, get an Icebreaker base layer (something like the 260 is good). You can wear this inside your tshirt and it keeps you warm AF. I am wearing the Icebreaker 200 bottoms as I type. Some of the best in the world.

I carry an Anker Fusion in my pouch that goes between all of the bags I carry. It's never failed for my and the rest of the family's devices for travel, day trips, daily topping off, etc.

I used this one but I cant really recommend it. It is heavier than the 6700mah version with a separate wall plug and won't charge the battery and phone at the same time. Charger

I would do this one if I did another AT thru.

u/689430944 · 2 pointsr/HomeNetworking

something like this could work if it runs off USB.

if the devices run off DC voltage, you can hook an appropriately rated supercap or battery in parallel to their power supply line to keep the voltage up for a few seconds.

u/CaptNumbNutz · 2 pointsr/cyberDeck

I'm currently using a LiFePO4wered/Pi+, specifically the model with the larger 18650 battery and stackable headers. It can be bought on Crowd Supply.

And according to the creator, it has been tested and is capable enough to work with a Pi4. I would probably be best to put a small heatsink on the unit for continuous high loads like with a Pi3B+ or Pi4.

This unit will not power a Pi3B+ or Pi4 for too long, maybe an hour at best at full load. I get around 2-3 hours of just general use on a Pi3B. However, it offers some huge advantages:

  1. Powering a Pi from most portable USB batteries designed for cell phones might present a challenge. Quality differs on these, so YMMV. Sometimes you will get a voltage dip on the output when you plug in a charger which might cause the Pi to hang or crash.
  2. There are also other UPS units out there for the Pi, but I haven't seen any that can put out a constant 5.0v 2A like this unit can. Some are rated for 1.5A only which might be fine for a Zero, Pi2, or Pi3... but could struggle with 3B+ or 4. This will depend on the device you use. Hopefully in the future there will be more choices.
  3. It uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery (LiFePo4), which has significantly more charge cycles at the cost of slightly less capacity when compared to other Lithium battery types.

So what I recommend doing is combining a UPS unit of your choice (although the one I listed is highly recommended) with a separate power source such as any large USB battery or any USB phone charger. This will prevent interruptions in power when swapping batteries or plugging in power. It will also mean you have a power button with software assisted safe-shutdowns.

On my setup I am currently using a Pi3B (non+) with the LiFePo4wered Pi+ (with 18650 battery and stackable header option), and an Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000mAh battery with built-in charger. Since I have my Pi3B inside a SmartiPi case with the official 7" touchscreen (similar to the other Cyberdecks built here) and I put a large heatsink on the Pi, it isn't possible for me to mount the LiFePo4wered Pi+ directly on top of the Pi like other HAT's. I bought the LiFePo4wered Pi with the stackable header option and a 40pin GPIO cable to link the 2 units and mounted it down below the screen. For those of you that might attempt this same setup with an Offical 7" LCD, make sure you install software for the LiFePo4wered Pi unit BEFORE you plug-in the hardware. Having both the touchscreen and the LiFePo4wered Pi unit installed without the software will cause a hardware or software conflict and the Pi and screen will lockup at EXACTLY 600 seconds (10 minutes).

That one is intended to be used exactly this way. Should be completely safe. It does say that there is a 1-2 second drop when it loses wall power, so the Wyze will reset, but after that, it'll be up.

Again, in case others come and read only this comment and not others in this thread, you still have the issue your internet going down. If you only want local recording, this works. Otherwise, get an UPS for your modem / router / etc.

This is my go to powerbank. It's only 5000mah but the convenience it provides makes up for a lot.

I just bought this Anker one (charges through AC while charging up the battery pack) for my phone and love it

For my car I have an Anker USB 3 dual car charger. Higher end one and it works great

As for battery packs I use my existing Anker battery packs and they work great as well. I'm not about to spend a bunch of more money on device specific stuff when the stuff I have works great.

I've been using my stuff since day one with out a problem.

Great for when I'm on the go and want to minimize what I want to bring. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K702S66/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7cOIzbGBMSSM8

Longer trips when I'm not in the car

I just don't recommend cheap power hardware. Anker has been a great brand for me and they have good quality.

Convenience, backup in case the first one gets lost or stops working at an inopportune time, additional features like rounded corners and smaller size or built in battery and more ports, being a hero for that friend who only has one charger but somehow never has it with them.

I recently picked up this anker https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Charger-Foldable/dp/B01K702S66

Using it for small devices on the go but they do make a beffier one that you can charge a laptop no problem.

First thing off the top of my head is combining the charger with the powerbank such as something along these lines

It's good to read a story with a relatively happy ending

A battery pack should prevent further phone dying problems

doesn't charge as fast as OEM charger but it being a portable battery is a nice touch. seems to be on sale too.
