There's a dude named Benson Leung who's been all over Amazon reviewing usb-c cables and making sure they're up to spec and such. Here's an example at this link.

Also, here's a google spreadsheet of the reviews that he's compiled as well. Any of the approved ones should be good, so you can just go for price at this point. However, my impression is that they don't use the proprietary Dash Charge that OnePlus incorporates into their cables, so you won't enjoy that benefit when using these cables.

u/waffledork · 11 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It depends on which Anker wire you picked up. Anker's a pretty good company so you're probably in good hands.

I bought this one because it was vetted by Benson on his site, http://www.bensonapproved.com/.

As long as you get a complaint cable, you're good =)

u/conscwp · 11 pointsr/gadgets

Yea. A USB-C cable can simultaneously only support USB 2.0. Or it could support up to USB 3.0. Or it could support up to USB 3.1. Or it could also support Thunderbolt 3.

You also have to be aware of which of these cables will support alternate modes like DisplayPort/HDMI/etc, because not every USB-C cable will support DisplayPort, despite DisplayPort support being part of the USB-C spec. A USB 2.0 cable won't support DP alternate mode, for example.

It is quite ridiculous.

Now that I'm looking at it, is only usb-c to usb-c compatible it seems like these that I bought are usb 3.0 to usb-c and are not but I don't know specifics on that regard.

EDIT: Yup i'm pretty sure they are QC3.0 compatible I'm using them on the HTC 10 with the charger that came with it and a QC3.0 car charger and my phones saying charging rapidly same as the stock charger and cable.

Also, as far as charges go, I bought the official 'Google' charger:
https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_charger?hl=en_US

And then the following cables:

Anker 1m A to C cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0119EIHTG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages01

iOrange 2m A to C cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010VFFU1W?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages01

It appears that only 1m cables will deliver USB 3.0 speeds. The phone doesn't do USB 3.0, but good to have for future proofing. The Google charger will be used at work, the charger that came with the phone plugged in by the couch. The 2M cable will be paired with a 'slow charging' brick (My Nexus 7 power adapter) and the 1M cable will be my multi-purpose one for my portable battery pack, or for the car. Should probably buy another 1M just to have it around.

I use this wall charger, this cable for it, and this shorter cable for my car (so there's not a lot of wire dangling). To be honest though, I don't really use the wall charger much, I just carry it in my bag. I charge it exclusively in the car during my commute (40 minutes each way) and on my nightstand overnight with an old Samsung "slow" charger (no need to fast charge it when it's just sitting there for 7-ish hours plugged in).

This is misleading. These were recalled and have been replaced.

Please look at Benson Lung's review marked April 6th here -

In his own words - The Type-C plug on this cable is a very good quality plug made with a deep-draw extrusion process. The plug is a single continuous piece of metal all the way around, meaning it's stronger than other stamped type plugs. This type of plug is the same kind that is used on all of Google and Apple's Type-C plugs, and the quality shows here. This cable is also USB 3.1 compatible, and it impresses because the cable is still very thin and flexible despite having extra wires for SuperSpeed functionality. Like all Anker cables, it comes with a very handy velcro cable tie. In my opinion, the fit and finish of the Anker cable is at the same level as the ones from the first parties including Google, Apple, and others.

In conclusion, this is a fine cable for your Nexus 6P/5X to use with all of your older USB Type-A chargers, hubs, and PCs. It also works great with Chromebook Pixel 2015 and will work great on USB Type-C spec compliant devices to come, as well as future proof for USB 3.1 SuperSpeed devices!

I just bought a few of the highest rated USB-C cables from Amazon here: http://amzn.to/1HLq7UD . I'd pair it with this: http://amzn.to/1NMa2QR

"For Optimal Use:
• Use your original cable or included cable.
• PowerDrive 2 Compatible With the new 12" MacBook (USB-C), Apple and Android smartphones, tablets (including the Nexus 7) and other USB-charged devices."

Apparently "Anker USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (3.3ft) for USB Type-C Devices" is Benson approved, which I assume is the same type of cable included with the powerbank.

Any cheaper options you can recommend? $130 is pushing it but I might need to bite the bullet here.

u/thewookster · 1 pointr/Nexus6P

While I can't speak for the ones sold by Google, I have had some experience with aftermarket cables. There was a post that I can't find that compared different aftermarket cables. I was having issues with Android Auto in my Elantra not working with my 5x or 6p that I determined to be caused by a cheaper cable. I bought this cable and it has worked flawlessly.

Edit: found the post.

For 3rd party I've recently found Anker (as others have pointed out) to be top notch:

Wall Charger

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0196JB1ZS/

Portable Battery Charger (will also need a micro USB to charge the charger)

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0194WDVHI/

USB 3.0 to USB C

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LNAAEJ2/
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0119EIHTG/

USB C (won't work with the portable charger I listed)

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LNA0XCU

I do get rapid charging on my USB 3.0 to USB C cables when being supplied by an appropriate adapter (that Power IQ thing Anker does ;) ), so don't be too thrown off by not going USB C to USB C.

Hi, will this setup be sufficient to get way more use on the go with my switch? and I know it says in the description that it will charge the switch while in sleep mode does that mean I can play and charge or no?

There is a master list of Benson Leung's "blessed" chargers over at /r/nexus6p/. It looks like it hasn't been updated in since December, but it might be a good place to start.

Here is what I personally went with:

u/DeathstaikerX · 1 pointr/Axon7

I can vouch for the Spigen, my phone flew out of my hoodie when I was dancing in the middle of the road, and hit the ground 5 ft away, barely any indication that the case was impacted as it bounced on the asphalt. Thats a good case. No cellphone damage whatsoever and you cant tell the case was dropped.

For Charger - I got this to compliment the one that comes from ZTE :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BBZJ31Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/PsynFyr · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

USBCompliant.com only shows this cable from Anker, but has several other cables that have tested to be compliant, as well as chargers.

u/motlaghreyhan · 1 pointr/lgv20

I would recommend anker's USB 3.0 to USB C cable if you aren't able to find OEM ones ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0119EIHTG/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_b4vgyb4TCFMFS ) it has been tested by Benson to not fry your device and is a good quality cable. Combined with Anker's quick charge brick ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018RR30TK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_O6vgybB41QVB7 ) I have had no problems, and the relatively inexpensive price of the cables is awesome considering how good they are.

u/Almace · 1 pointr/Moto_Z

I would be wary of USB-C cables that don't follow specs. I'm not sure if they can damage your phone, but they have been reported to damage other hardware.

I'd recommend Anker's USB-A 3.0 to USB-C. Bought a couple recently and have zero complaints.

u/chx_ · 1 pointr/thinkpad

Expresscards can only be used to USB 3.1 Gen 1 (aka USB 3.0) ports, not USB C. There's no way to add USB C alas. But, USB is forgiving and using a https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Pull-up-Resistor-Including-ChromeBook/dp/B0119EIHTG cable like that is going to give you 5gbps speed. Charge with an external brick.

u/SenordrummeR2 · 1 pointr/nintendo

Does anyone have any recommendations for USB-C to USB-3 cables? I do a lot of traveling for work and will be taking the Switch with me. I've got a spare 10w iPad charger that I'm hoping will work with the Switch, so I just need a charge cable. I'm currently looking at this one on Amazon.

What about a USB C cable and an incase battery charger? These specifically:

It still "slowly charges", this won't fix that. I wasn't getting any connectivity before, now I get connectivity and slow charging. That's limited by the regulator that they used when putting in the USB port (likely a 1A regulator). Can't fix that issue.

I went with this cable.

u/GiraffeGlove · 1 pointr/cellphones

Walgreens doesn't have those, they're not ubiquitous yet.

Order one from these from Amazon these ones have good ratings and are cheap. Don't cheap out on USB-C cables though, there are still quite a few out there that don't follow spec and could damage your phone.
