Do you normally lean over the pot/pan where you would be in splattering range? I know it splatters out into a certain radius beyond the pan, especially with shallower pans, but I try to keep my important bits out of range. This often has me standing back a bit from where I would normally stand with most natural arm movement - I'm back a bit and have to extend my arms further, plus kind of peering at whatever I'm cooking from afar instead of really getting in close to inspect it - but too many small burns have taught me to be cautious. It's not an issue of being super timid with it or anything, just careful. I consider it a form of controlling the hazards similar to what I do in the lab as someone who works with biological samples (human or animal blood products, urine, etc) - even though in the lab I'm wearing protective eyewear at a minimum and usually with a full face shield over it, I still point vials away from me when I open them so that any spray isn't towards me.

I'm sure 99% of people see it as overkill, but if this is genuinely a consistent issue for you, I wasn't entirely kidding about protective eyewear. I have a set of lab goggles I use if cutting onions is really killing me, and it works fantastically. There are safety glasses designed to be worn over eyeglasses - you'd still have to wipe the oil off of those, but at least you're not potentially ruining expensive glasses that you actually need to see! The real dweeb solution, if you want to go hard and don't mind looking like a dork, is the face shields I mentioned - these aren't the brand I use at work, but they're cheap and should do the trick.

Using science stuff in the kitchen is underrated sometimes.
