I feel like I sound like a broken tape recorder mentioning this monitor on this sub but I have 3x of the Asus VS239H-P
It's only 23" but its 1920x1080 and IPS, I grabbed mine each used for about $100 off ebay.

A couple other options are the very popular Dell UltraSharp U2312HM at the same specs

Or a couple of "slim-bezel" monitors with the same specs as well that are both IPS are AOC's version and Acer's version. Slightly different but they use the same panel

Keep in mind these are all also below $200 (usually around $150) which would save you're friend some cash to throw into parts instead and

I use an i5 4gb Pro 4 as a desktop when I'm at home. Works sweet, any resizing glitches after plugging in can be solved by logging in and out. I've grabbed a wireless logitech keyboard and mouse, a USB hub thing which cost a couple of dollars online, and this monitor, which is fantastic for the price.

Edit: am also student, and this thing kicks ass for that. It'll literally change how you use a computer.

If you're only gaming at 60hz, I promise you won't notice the extra 4MS response time from an IPS panel, and it'll give you far better color reproduction, brightness, viewing angle, ect. They are also fairly cheap. I highly recommend AOC, and this monitor in particular is amazing value.

I use this. I also have this, but it looked sort of fuzzy with the matte and had a purple blemish. Couldn't return it to Amazon because it was over 30 days, but the AOC warranty could probably help. The AOC one looks much sleeker than the Asus, but has worse picture quality.

I also have a 28" ASUS VA display for my PS4 and it's meh, it has great colors and response times, the colors are almost neon they're so bright, and I have no regrets over picking a 28" over a 24", and the pixel density isn't noticeable on a 28". I would recommend a 27-28" for PS4 over a 24", a 24" is just too small for a PS4 and the pixel density doesn't warrant a display as small as a 24". unless you're gaming for MLG,Faze or Optic, get a 24", but otherwise get a 27-28".

For about $150 I would recommend the AOC i2367fh, It is the best monitor I have ever used, and unless a slight bit of wobble will throw you off (The stand could be better) it is amazing, and if the wobble does throw you off the monitor has feet on the bottom of the screen, so the stand is optional. But aside from the wobble, everything else is great, it has amazing color, and great response times, making it a great monitor even for gaming. I have this similar one because I wanted one with speakers and I'm pretty happy with it. They are both 60hz.

I am gonna have my PC, Surface Book, and PS4 hooked to one monitor, and I want speakers until I get headsets. But, I think I just literally found the perfect monitor for what I need, the AOC i2367Fh.

It's a 23 inch 1080p display, it has a thin bezel, 5ms rt, two HDMI ports, a DVI port, a headphone and mic port, and it's only $130 on Amazon with free shipping on prime.

With 23" IPS panels as cheap as they are now, everyone should be buying them. If you like glossy coated panels, get the Acer - if you want a matte coated monitor instead, get one of the numerous other 23" IPS monitors with that, like this:

what you probably want is a 23-24" IPS panel, IPS panels have much more vibrant color and way better viewing angles (by viewing angle i mean: you know when you tilt a laptop screen and the colors get all messed up? IPS fixes that). a good 23-24" IPS panel runs anywhere from 150-300 bucks, but there are many good ones under 200. a few examples:

Hmm, could i perhaps go a level lower on the graphics card? If so which one would it be and would I still get a good performance with it? I'm not going to be playing too crazy high demanding games on a daily basis however I would like to have the option there if i choose to. How big of a deal would TN vs IPS be for me? Last year I purchased this IPS monitor, and the display quality really wasn't an improvement over the TN panels that I've used. Viewing angles aren't that big of a deal to me because I just sit directly in front of the monitor to play games. I feel like TN is better in my case because it's cheaper and has lower response time for games. That's why I think this monitor is the best I can get with its $250 price tag at Best Buy. Am I wrong?

I think out of the more affordable monitor, this is a pretty good option. My friend has the monitor and even though its not actually "borderless", it looks really nice and its styling is kinda similar to Apple products.

After measuring it out, it seems silly to get anything over 23"-24".

This monitor is 5ms ad everything else you're looking for. A plus is that it's got a beautiful frameless design. And trust me you won't really notice the difference between 1, 3 or 5ms. It's a great monitor, I've been using my 2 for at least a year now and I've had no problems.

So I have two AOC i2367F-B Black monitors and I want another one which is an AOC i2367Fh monitor. Is there any difference between the F and Fh versions? XFX has a cool design stand for around 300$ and Newstar has some for around 150$, it would be cheaper to just put them on their own feet or make a stand yourself. Wow, this is a very helpful reply. Thank you! Unfortunately I have already ordered most of the items. I still haven't ordered the expensive parts though. I am going to a nearby Microcenter because the Intel i7-3770k is so cheap. And I have yet to buy a SSD, GPU, or a monitor, although this one looks pretty beautiful to me. But I will definitely check if Microcenter has that GPU or something similar. And I will look for a Samsung SSD too.

I found a few guides on dual-booting with one HDD. Is it really that much easier with another HDD? I don't really want to buy another and have so much free space that I am never going to use, but I guess for ~$60 it wouldn't be too expensive of a fix. How would that work out for the SSD though? I was planning on using it for my commonly used applications to speed them up. Is it possible to use it for the important parts of both Windows and OSX? I suppose if I had to choose, I could just use it for Windows so games would run more smoothly.

I ended up buying this in July, and it has been fantastic. IPS has become a must-have for me, and for less than $150, this the panel on this AOC is incredible. Might pick up another soon for this price.

The two main things to look at would be thin bezels and IPS or VA panels.

If you specifically need 25", the only 'suitable' monitor that I'd recommend is a HP 25XW. Those HP's seem to be really nice. They have a thin bezel and IPS. The only problem would be that there isn't a vesa mount option if you wanted them on arms.

Other than that, there are quite a few 23" models but 2 which I'd give a go are the Dell S2316M and the AOC i2367Fh. Both Dell and AOC are really popular monitor brands for a good reason. Both are IPS, have thin bezels, and look nice. I'm sure the Dell is a new model so it will be available for a while now.

Go for an AOC monitor. their IPS panels are designed quite nice, they have good colours and have low response times. They are also relatively cheap. Unless you are trying to be a pro CS:GO or Overwatch player, you don't need to shell out on a 144 Hz monitor.

Can somebody ELI5 the relationship between monitor refresh rate, FPS, and my GPU? If I have a 60hz IPS monitor (currently running an AOC I2367F), and a GTX 970 or R9 390 (still on the fence about which one).... will I be limited to 60 fps by the monitor? Or will I be able to hit whatver the max fps my PC is able to handle?

ips response times arent anything particularly special. IPS monitors usually have worse response than similarly priced TNs, however you are right in that their refresh is rarely above 60. I have two of these monitors, and am getting a third for eyefinity. They are great for the price, and in my opinion they are great in general. The 5ms is fine for most everything besides twitchy games like css and csgo. A couple things, however...

Only two inputs, vga and dvi,
the bezel looks smaller than it is,
there is no vesa mounting holes,
The stand isn't sturdy by any means.

I have absolutely zero issues with them, hence the reason I will be getting a third, just thought I'd throw out some knowledge.

I have this AOC 23-inch which is a lot cheaper and I love it. It has great color. 1080p. Good refresh rate for gaming.

The Dell monitor looks better, physically, I think. And the Dell probably is superior, but if you just want to get up and running, you can get the AOC.

  EDIT: It looks like from the specs, all of the AOC monitors offer more contrast than the Dell. I wouldn't be surprised, as I am a lot happier with my AOC monitor at home than I am with my Dell monitor at work.

Have been using it for more than a year great thin IPS panel with a thin bezel and a decent response time . My only disappointment from this is the lack of vesa mount. Since the monitor stand does not give a wide range of viewing angles.

It's good, but for RAM, I would get this instead. It's $57.99, and uses two sticks instead of one. I would also get this hard drive instead of the one you have. If you're into nice looking monitors, this 23" frame-less monitor is about 20 less than the one you have. Good luck!

I use this AOC monitor and it is amazing for the price. I play lots of online FPS games, amongst many others, and have had no complaints what so ever. Well... only complaint is that it doesn't fit standard monitor mounting brackets and needed a special adapter so that I could mount it on an arm.

None of the top of my head as I don't really keep up with monitors, but this is what I have.

I'd recommend comparing different models and finding the one that's right for your budget. General recommendations are to not get a monitor that is too large because at 1080p it starts to look a bit bad. Most IPS monitors have 5ms response time as well, so make sure it's not above that.

I have this and it works great, but it is not VESA mountable.

It's a very basic 1080p IPS 60hz monitor, 2 HDMI and 1 VGA port.

I game on my 6700K + GTX1070 with this monitor just fine. (Yes I ran out of money when I got to buying the monitor.)

Benchmark it against the $600 Mac Mini then. That 21.5" IPS display doesn't cost $500. For $760 you can stick the Mac Mini underneath a nice looking display like this 23" AOC one and get the same form factor and OSX support but faster hardware with more ports.

I can't imagine anyone that buys these uses them for anything more than interior design. Apple could strip the hardware out entirely and replace it with a picture viewer and people would still buy it.

This looks pretty good, and I'm considering it. Is there any benefit to getting the one you posted as opposed to this?

Monitors are so confusing. What's most important for gaming? I have it narrowed down to a few different monitors but there are differences (IPS/TN, 60/144hz, 5ms/1ms, screen size/resolution) that are really bogging me down.

Fwiw, the monitors that I've tracked down are these... can you advise me on any of them? Open to dual monitors or single, more high end monitor. This is going on my rig that is used almost exclusively for gaming and movies.

Check out some AOC IPS panels such as this. They have extremely thin bezels, almost non existent.

At 23 inches, it's not the largest screen in the world, but the relatively high pixel density will make the image look very sharp. You want an IPS panel, because viewing angles and colors are just miles ahead of TN panels. In the past, IPS panels had issues with reaction times, but this has long been solved. I was really surprised by how good the colors looked. A couple of years ago I payed several times as much for a screen that's slightly larger and is better equipped, but isn't noticeably superior in terms of colors and viewing angles. This AOC really is a steal for this price. The only real downsides are its tinny speakers, but who's using built-in ones anyway?

Edit: Product images are lying a little: The bezel is actually quite a bit larger than that, even though it doesn't look like it as long as the screen is turned off.

I'm using the ATH M50s for headphones, which I highly recommend, and the monitor is the AOC I2367FH, which I would also recommend.

You might have seen it in some set ups even here on MacSetups. IPS panel with a 1080 display. Thin bezel but don't be mistaken as it does has bezels. This is a 23' and its worth every penny!

This looks like its an upgrade from this AOC monitor, and actually seems like a decent upgrade. I didn't buy the monitor I just listed because of the lack of mounting and Display port. If the price of the i2369Vm comes down to the price of the i2367Fh I would definitely buy one.

I have 2 of these AOC monitors and could not be happier. Great monitor for the price. Full HD, 5ms response time, IPS panel.

So I'm trying to narrow down choices for monitors under $150, been looking around and also thanks to Techsource's video I've got the four I think I want to choose from, and just wanted to see if anyone else has any feedback.      Im not looking for anything larger than 24, and for the build I plan on I won't be going above 1080p resolution. The 3 non-widescreen monitors I know are super popular, but I included the widescreen because although I plan on gaming I am still in school and in a little over a year will be starting medical school so I would love a widescreen for productivity (though Im not sure if it would be worth a single widescreen vs Dual monitors, since this widescreen is only 23 Im not sure if it would be any different than the other choices).
     
     Im not sure what to think about the VESA mounting options, as Im not sure if I would end up mounting a monitor so for now lack of VESA isn't necessarily a con.

HDMI is generally a problem with cheap monitors, as they're usually older DVI models...

Both IPS, but one's sadly one inch larger than the other. Hope that's not a problem.

CPU: No one really needs 12cores, especially when they only run at 2.5GHz. Here we have 10 Cores putting out 3.1GHz so that you get more processing power with each core allowing you to really make the most out of multiple applications at once.

RAM: 64GB of ram is more than enough to deal with your rendering and having a project compiling while you work on something else and the MOBO is upgradable to 128GB if wanted/needed so there is room for growth.

Storage: A 1TB SSD Allows for quick boot times and fast response when retrieving Small files. The two 6TB are for localized storage when working on massive media projects that require high file size without the need to pull from a server to improve productivity. I'm assuming most of your stuff will be sent to a server when you are finished. Still 13TB is more than most graphic designers/game developers will use in one rendition. You may even be able to get away with a Single 6TB HDD.

GPU: 2880 CUDA Cores per Titan will be used to do Graphic Rendering and Video compiling, meaning your videos and graphics should compile at Mach Speeds. These are some of the most stable and efficient Graphics Cards. If you are not Needing that kind of Beefyness, you can drop down to 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW ACX 2.0 Video Cards for about 400$ a pop saving you 1400$ in this build.

Case: I was looking at the other cases people were choosing as much as the brushed metalic is nice, This one provides both style and the proper Airflow you need to keep a rig like this at a decent temp without hooking it up to a dedicated water/Liquid Nitrogen cooling system for your CPU+GPU on top of being at a better price point.

PSU: 1300W Is more than enough, this rig takes about 900W to operate efficiently and this way you still have room to move up if you need to without buying a new PSU. I saw others throwing in 1500W, but that is just needless waste and will draw more power than it'll use, effectively being a power waster.

Monitors: 2 Acers which you can place Vertically and Two Asus which are horizontal will allow for a massive field of view while allowing you to work on any type of graphic. Alternitively you can go with 4x AOC i2367Fh 23-Inch IPS Frameless LED-Lit Monitor for 200$ ea. If you want to create a 4x4 square that is seamless (Basically one big monitor)

Keyboard: Don't need a Pro gaming Keyboard but the Cherry Brown MX switches with be very nice for prolonged typing and will withstand wear and tear.

Mouse: Deathadder is a gaming mouse but a High DPI is important for your job, some people use the zoom method for accuracy when designing but in order to hit those pixels in the big picture it is important to have a high DPI. The Deathadder also has switches on it that will allow you to increase/decrease DPI at will while designing.

Pretty cheap, and pretty solid all around, has speakers if thats a thing for you. Colors and response are price appropriate.

My friend and I both have this monitor. It's a good IPS panel with a 5 ms response time and 60Hz refresh rate. I don't have any problems playing TF2, CS:GO, Battlefield 4, and other fast paced games on it. Viewing angles are great, so watching media on this monitor isn't an issue from whatever position you're sitting in. I can't say much about color representation since I have no reference for it, but I have no issues with the panel.


My vote goes to this AOC i2367fh 1080p IPS monitor.
