Here is the 2070 version. I'm mainly posting to follow this thread as I don't know much about using the eGPU's through thunderbolt 3 and am intrigued.

u/boojit · 2 pointsr/eGPU

Ok well then it's pretty easy -- get yourself one of a number of TB3 eGPU enclosures and then get yourself a big honkin' expensive graphics card (I recommend a RTX 2080 Ti, because money is no problem, right?). You'll definitely see a performance boost. Take a look at this.

EDIT or you could do this and be done with it.

u/red286 · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

You think that's bad? ASUS charges $850 for the XG Station 2.. and that doesn't even come with a GPU, just the enclosure.

Which is really fucked up when you consider that the Gigabyte one for the same price comes with an RTX 2070.

What about an external GPU ?

x-kom updated they offer but i think they sold all unit for now

I did better option for me in my opinion because I bought XPS 13 (9380) for $833 USD (my company has 70% off on dell products) with specification i7-8565U (4.6GHZ), 16 GB Ram 2133mhz, 512GB nvme samsung 970 evo, 3YR pro support(better then razer support) and i bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NDZV2WC/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 with RTX2070 + external monitor 144mhz

AND FINAL PRICE FOR THIS PACKAGE IS $1600 USD so is not $3800 USD and im very mobile right now :)

I just bought this eGPU to use with my laptop (which has an Intel i7-8550U) for Oculus Link. That should work, right? I'd plug a USB 3.0 to USB-C cable into my laptop, connect to the Quest, everything's good?

Edit: So, my eGPU arrived, and I figured I'd give a field report. Getting the eGPU set up was much more difficult than I anticipated -- this wasn't plug 'n play by any means. I needed to update my BIOS, ME firmware, and Thunderbolt drivers, as well as bump my Windows 10 from v1809 to v1909, and it's still not working 100% (specifically, I need to power my laptop through a separate USB C port, rather than having the Thunderbolt 3 also power my laptop, because for some reason if the Thunderbolt 3 is the only power my laptop gets confused about it not being an official adapter and intermittently disconnects it). I also tried very hard to update my Intel integrated graphics drivers (which was said to improve the aforementioned intermittent disconnection issue), but between HP's driver download site deciding to completely die for a few hours and my drivers insisting that they were already updated, I'm not sure if this actually worked.

As for gameplay, it seems to work (in both Oculus Home and SteamVR), but the latter has some pretty significant lag if my screen is mirroring the content I'm seeing. I believe this is due to sending the uncompressed content from the eGPU back to the laptop's monitor over the Thunderbolt 3 connection, clogging up bandwidth (the Quest's actual content already being compressed on the GPU, and so sending it back over doesn't have this impact). I need to figure out how to stop the mirroring, or at least significantly reduce the size of the mirrored window, to see if that will help.

I've also encountered an issue where SteamVR thinks the center of my Guardian/Chaperone space is actually to one side of it, almost outside of it, so anything that depends on you being in the middle of your space breaks. I had a somewhat similar issue with Oculus apps where "recentering" the view actually pushed it over to the side significantly.

My last weird bug was during a playthrough of Vader Immortal: for some reason, my left controller stopped accepting button inputs (although it continued to be receiving thumbstick controls, as well as being 6DOF tracked). I didn't recreate that bug, so maybe it was just random; this is a beta, after all.

Edit 2: OK, this is really brittle. I tried downgrading the firmware to an earlier version which disabled the USB ports on the GPU to increase bandwidth over the Thunderbolt 3 cable, and then attempted to set up ALVR, but somehow that completely broke things, to the point where the eGPU wasn't being recognized at all. I even uninstalled and reinstalled my laptop's Thunderbolt software, no change. I tested the device on my work laptop (which also has Thunderbolt 3), and of course it worked perfectly there, no difficulties. Since I was able to get into it, I restored the firmware to what I had before. I then connected to my personal laptop, and everything was working again. So lesson: once things seem to be working, stop screwing around with it.

Hi, I have Xps 15 9570 top but without 4k display. Can you use Vr with this system, and do you recommend this eGpu?

Edit: Is this the one you have bought?

You can try and use something like this so you don't have to run on integrated graphics

u/Chewii3 · 1 pointr/Battletops

I absolutely love it. I really don't see how they could improve it for the price range it's in. Imo its the best they can do under 2k$.

Only issues i would point out is while gaming the cooling isn't great. Since all the components are all stacked so tightly and even with the fans at full blast it does tend to worry me how long it'll all last , bur so far so good. Maxxes out at 74°C. (Compared to a tower pc it'll be around 50°C).

It's one sexy machine..the only thing i can think of for the 9580 is them somehow making it thinner..which mind you will increase the $$$. But if you've got the $$$ to spend and are willing to wait..go ahead. You could be possibly getting thinner bezels and chassis.

However if you're on limited funds..like i am, i wouldn't hesitate for the 9570. My model is the 4k touch screen 1050ti, and i love it.

At 60fps using the laptop screen:
Play basic games lile Csgo at max graphics.
Siege, apex, arma 3, forza horizon, tomb raider at mid/high

Connected to my 144hz monitors my goal is high fps and smooth af 144fps. I really don't care about visuals.
Csgo at low to mid
Siege and apex, tomb raider low to mid

My next addition to this set up to top it off...is an eGPU.

To be specific: GIGABYTE AORUS Gaming Box RTX 2070 Graphic Card GV-N2070IXEB-8GC eGPU https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NDZV2WC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.bvUCbWV032X2

😎. One cable and skadoosh. Full on gaming pc. And when i need to go to uni and do some work with it..unplug the thunderbolt 3 and it's a portable laptop again. Just ugh it's orgasmic.

What I'd suggest is if you're going for a full out set maybe try Dells outlet, use some promo codes etc. And have spare money for everything else. But if you want a brand new one go ahead, those couple years garuntees are good.

Fyi total cost of the set up above would be abouttt..£2700.

Not all my money..with some help ofc 😅.

Anyways good luck with your decisions my friend.

Adios <3

I got mine from newegg but they are no longer selling it (this also ships to the UK from amazon US)

I was looking for more of a plug n play option in possible.

Link of what I'm looking at.

https://www.amazon.com/Embedded-Thunderbolt-Portable-External-GV-N2070IXEB-8GC/dp/B07NDZV2WC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=egpu&qid=1564262768&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Then using a adapter for the thunderbolt to USB

Is this option possible?

Thanks for the recommendation! Have you tested this on a mac before? I've heard that NVIDIA drivers are not supported.

u/SophisticatedPeasant · 1 pointr/razer

You could have used an external GPU and Windows 10 Boot Camp on your Mac and saved a lot of money with an external GPU enclosure you could have gone up to an actual blow-style RTX 2080 Ti if you wanted to with load temps in the mid 60's with all of that heat away from the motherboard and computer itself, meaning, less chance of component failure, battery warpage (see my last reply here with links) or multiple RMA fun.

Right now youre in a bit of a quandary if you actually need the laptop for work because the laptop can, and will likely fail in some manner in the next year or two. If it happens over the course of a weekend and you have a business meeting on a Monday...yeah you probably get the idea.

E-GPU enclosure + RTX 2070: $649.
