Personally I think you would be better off getting a 400w HID (Digital Dimmable) light with MH and HPS bulb. If price is a concern that should actually be cheaper as well.

cfl's suck and you will not get good yields even when throwing in a few LED lamps if heat is a problem HPS with a cool tube trust me on this one I know many people who started with CFLs but once they tried HPS they never went back...you get at least twice the size even with a 400w HPS and you can pick up a ballast with bulbs and cool tube for around 150.00 http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-GLK400CT24E-Digital-Dimmable/dp/B00547I5I8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418018537&sr=8-1&keywords=HPS+with+cooltube

this is the one I got, I guess it just comes with a cheap reflector, not a hood with a vent. maybe I should just send it back and get this one which is what I meant to get in the first place. I'll lose 16 bucks from return shipping but I guess that's not the end of the world.

Dude if you have 500 hundred to spend then for sure let me get some links for you. USA?
If you are doing Hydro get these depending on how many plants.

Then a good tent for around 100

Depending on what lighting you want I would do anywhere from 400-600w light that can do mh and hps light. (mh for vegetation and hps for flowering)

After that you will need fans definitely for the lighting, a fan for your plants and then grow nutrients.
This is to give you an idea the big 3 is your base either soil or Hydro, the lighting which is expensive and the tent.

Goodluck!

That fixture is out of the question now, I will be buying this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00547I5I8/ref=aw_ls__1?colid=3RUQGZ2JTBF5F&coliid=I3BXELVOEU3IR1
Anybody have a guide for venting? I plan on cutting a hole in the closet ceiling and exhausting into the attic. The real issue here is fresh air intake. Since I'm running it in a closet there's no real easy way to run 6 inch ducting to the outside.

I'd have to agree with Justin here, I own that light and reflector and I absolutely LOVE it so far, but my tent is over twice that size (36x48x72), and it fills the space quite well. the 400w should suit your needs well without all the heat of the 600w. My tent sits at 70F-78F with the veg bulb, the flower bulb that comes with this puts out almost double the lumens and presumably a TON more heat.

Edit: Amazon carries a 400w version of that light for $26 cheaper, if you want to go with the same type kit. Has good reviews and a 5 star rating.

I would suggest you get one with a "cool tube," it'll make things easier in the future when you do add a fan and ductwork for the light. Go with this instead. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00547I5I8/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?qid=1407286741&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Thanks for the insight. I think I may do this. I'm still in the return window time, and I may just opt for something like this to get more bang for my buck. I'll have to get some really good ventilation going on, but I think it may be worth it.

Just don't use the timer it comes with cause it's junk but I have the 600 version of this and it's great. This one if you have a larger room.

I'm gonna be getting one of these packages:

http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-GLK400CT24E-Digital-Dimmable/dp/B00547I5I8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1371828465&sr=8-8&keywords=400w+hps

It includes the cooltube, a ballast, HPS and MH bulbs, hangers, and a timer; for $150, I think that's a good deal. The ratings on it are good too.

u/Mitten_Punch · 1 pointr/microgrowery

Almost. The CoolTube version will be easier to cool, if you don't mind a bit more ducting.
