No. MIDI is not audio, and there’s no way to send MIDI data directly through the audio port.

You can use this lightning to USB adapter to connect to a USB MIDI device.

Source: I’m the author of MIKMIDI and have also written code to send (non-MIDI) data through the audio port, so I’ve got experience in both areas.

> Get the apple camera adapter, and use its USB to your modi, here you use your full stack but you need this more expensive camera adapter and your phone battery will drain much more quickly than with the 3.5mm dongle

The newer USB 3 version allows you to plug in a Lightning cable into it to allow simultaneous charging.

Yes it works but you need a lightning to USB adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Lightning-USB3-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM

Or you need to use a flash drive with lightning connector like this https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-iXpand-iPhone-Silver-SDIX30C-128G-GN6NE/dp/B01CIEBXZG

Yeah lightning to USB adapter works for USB hard drives and flash drives. Just remember to get the adapter with lightning charging in case the device needs the extra power.

EDIT: This one

So audacity is kind of a pain. If your computer is Mac, I’d just use GarageBand, it’s completely adequate. If it’s a PC, I’m not sure what free software besides audacity is out there... I’m sure there’s something, it’s just not a world of computing I’ve lived in for a while.

As far as recording into an iPad, I know Jason Snell does (or has done) this. Here’s a link to a post he made about it: https://sixcolors.com/post/2019/02/a-week-of-podcasting-with-only-an-ipad-pro/ . You may need an adapter... something like this: Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_0k9YCbK51VHET . Or the USB-C version if you have a newer iPad.

The best (and maybe only) app to do this realistically is Ferrite: https://www.wooji-juice.com/products/ferrite/ . It’s made specifically for recording podcasts and editing on iPads. I believe that there are posts on there site that can help.

Getting it on iTunes depends a bit on your hosting. Some hosting has built in ways of submitting the feed to iTunes, others you submit it manually. Do you know where you’re hosting?

Some options:

> If you have a Squarespace site, you can host it there on the site you already pay for and submit manually.

> You can host it on a top-tier site like Libsyn, which requires you to pay monthly for storage space. I believe they have some built in submission tools, but I could be wrong.

> I think you can still host for free on soundcloud, but pretty sure it’s limited and you can submit it manually.

> Anchor.fm is free and has really great built in tools for submitting your podcast. It walks you through it. Probably a good option to not spend money on hosting until you really know what you want your podcast to be! I spent a hundred bucks hosting a defunct podcast for a year, when I ultimately just rolled it onto anchor to (somewhat) preserve it and cut my losses. My two still running podcasts are both on anchor because they’re small (100-150 downloads an episode) and until (or if) they ever get bigger, it just isn’t worth it to me to pay for hosting. Anchor was just bought by Spotify though, so there is a bit of a morale quandary... being a fan of open podcasting vs hosting on a site owned by a pay walled podcast client.

Hope that helps! I’ll answer any other questions you have as you’re diving in!

What kind of keyboard do you have? If it has USB-MIDI, the cheapest way would be to plug it to your ipad with the USB Camera Adapter, and then connect the headphone output of your ipad to your amp. When you say "patches", what are you referring to?

u/Aperture_Kubi · 3 pointsr/sysadmin

So, anyone know of a USB3 > USB Hub + Ethernet adapter that works with iPads?

I have the one I linked, and with the Thunderbolt Camera adapter (which gives a full size USB port, and a passthrough Thunderbolt for power) I get a message that says it's not supported.

However I know a card reader, keyboard, and usb>ethernet adapter do all work, but I want to have as few cables and components as possible. Ethernet simplifies things for me as far as the network goes. I'm trying to replace a similar setup of which the hardware cost is $1k+ USD.

u/honkimon · 3 pointsr/synthesizers

That would probably work just fine but I bought the official Apple one to be safe

u/JasonDB55 · 2 pointsr/piano

I only included the braille in case you or anyone else that reads it later needs it, or maybe wants to print out to have next to their piano so they don't need to keep coming back to reddit for it. I tried to think of everything to help. I'm not blind, but I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to not have owners manuals in a form you can read being blind. I actually looked to see if they had a version for visually impaired. Sadly, they did not. This shows an obvious need in our world that we do not have.

Yamaha's Smart Pianist app for iOS allows you to control the functions of your P-125 with your iOS device (requires Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter and USB cable). The USB cable will be USB-A to USB-B ends.

Facing the back of the piano you have from left to right, USB to Host, Sustain pedal, Pedal Unit, Aux jack right, aux jack left and balanced, finally the power.

I hope this helps and was exactly the answers you were seeking. Good luck on your journey learning piano.

I use an ipad plus this adapter. You are able to use the usb to hook up the dac while also being able to plug in power for the ipad.

u/CryptoGreen · 2 pointsr/funny

Maybe people will start using the camera adaptor, which has a little side chain for charging with a lighting power adaptor. Then you can just use your USB headphones.

u/reiro83 · 1 pointr/headphones

Is it this the one?

Yeah I prefer the small one that one is so bulky.

Novation Audiohub 2x4.

I recently got one and it's perfect for pairing the OP-1 and iPad. You can set it up to send audio or midi between the two. You can power it with the 9v adapter or using the iPad charger and the USB3 camera connector.

u/wfltaylor · 1 pointr/teslamotors

You can get the offical Apple one from amazon: Lightning to USB camera adaptor. There are also some cheaper 3rd party ones, like this: Lightning to USB third party. These may not be as reliable as the Apple one.

u/anal__disaster · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I found this one on amazon but it's 40 bucks... apple... what...

But I found this one for 7 though, it does have some reviews saying its finicky but I could just resolder it if it stops working

I'll post back here later if this works, thanks

Here's the link if you didn't find it:

Apple MK0W2AM/A Lightning To USB Camera Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-i-TAbBJENT91

u/liquid1ce · 1 pointr/jailbreak

Incase anyone is interested - I got it to work! I started off buying this: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MK0W2AM-Lightning-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ which allows you to charge the phone and power the USB to Ethernet Adapter. Unfortunately, this only seems to work with newer versions of iOS (it says "Device is not supported" when I plug it into my iOS 9.1 devices).

I had to buy this one: https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-to-USB-Camera-Adapter/dp/B014VGHG0U/

The Apple USB to Ethernet Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-USB-Ethernet-Adapter-MC704LL/dp/B00W7W9FK0

And also buy a powered USB hub (any one should I work, but this one is powered by microusb so I can plug it into a car charger): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0192LPK5M/

Lastly, I had to buy an Ethernet to Wi-Fi Adapter (I bought this one, again because it is USB powered - any one should work though): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004UAKCS6/

So the extremely complicated solution is to have my iPhone 6S Jailbroken on iOS 9.1 connected over wireless CarPlay (uses Wi-Fi Direct) - so to get Internet data, I have the iPhone Lightning to USB Adapter connected to Anker USB Hub which is plugged into a car charger and the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter, then over Ethernet to the IOGear Wi-Fi Adapter. The IOGear Wi-Fi Adapter is configured to connect to my iPhone 6S Plus's HotSpot.

The bad thing with this is I cannot charge the Jailbroken 6S while I do this (I bought a lightning splitter to see if this will allow me to charge).

If I was on iOS 10.2 Jailbroken, I could use the newer Apple Lightning USB Adapter which can charge the phone too and get rid of the Anker USB hub. Maybe 10.3.2 will get jailbroken soon! :)

If Apple allowed Bluetooth Tethering like they do with iPads and iPod Touches, I could have simply tethered one iPhone to the other, but for whatever reason Apple doesn't allow that and there doesn't seem to be a tweak to fix this that I can find.

u/pi_slices · 1 pointr/synthesizers

This adapter works for my iPad, same MIDI controller besides the color. Doesn't work unless I am plugged in, unfortunately.

u/ScarletLark · 1 pointr/fieldrecording

I said I’m new to this, lol... but seriously, thank you for letting me know this is the issue. I’m 100% just barely figuring this out.

Am I right that this should fix it? (Lightning to USB3, USB to audio inputs; + external power)

u/Erukian · 1 pointr/mazda

Just an idea, can you get a USB 12V adapter, and combine the mazda center armrest USB with the 12V USB with something like this?

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MK0W2AM-Lightning-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1496604263&sr=8-2&keywords=lightning+adapter+camera

That way you can send the data over the wire to the car when apple carplay comes around and still charge it quickly.

u/DustinDortch · 1 pointr/ipad

Ordered... we'll see tomorrow. I picked up the 2m cable. If this works well, I would say that I would have to recommend this, especially if the new iPad Pro comes with a short lightning cable... get the 29W charger + the 2m USB-C male to lightning male cable:

Here is what I ordered:

Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter (MJ262LL/A) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VU2Z3J0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Apple USB-C to USB adapter (could be an issue) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VU2OID2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Apple MKQ42AM/A USB-C to Lightning Cable (2M) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DPSJQRG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also have this:
Apple MK0W2AM/A Lightning To USB Camera Adapter - https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MK0W2AM-Lightning-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497378927&sr=8-2&keywords=Camera+lightning+adapter

We'll see how the kit works out tomorrow with the new USB-C to Lightning cable.

u/DrNavi · 1 pointr/ipad

Because flash drives like that are made to only work through an app. You're better off buying this dongle and a regular flash drive + power source.

u/Poospray · 1 pointr/BedroomBands

I can help if you are using an iPhone. I believe garageband is free and records multitrack full quality with decent editing and mixing options. You can even use 3rd party plugin apps! You'll need an USB adaptor to connect an audio interface. you'd be best with this usb adaptor because it also get's power from your charger. This does two things for you, 1) your iPhone won't die on you 2) your iphone will have enough power for the interface. Then you can get something like this behringer. Then all that's left is grabbing a few SM-57 mics, or a shure drum mic kit](https://www.amazon.com/Shure-DMK57-52-Drum-Microphone-Kit/dp/B0002E51C6) to get a usable recording. Toss the big one on your kick, then one 57 on the mic, and then the other two over head pointing at your cymbals and toms. this set up will allow you to get pretty decent recordings, especially if your kit is in a good sounding space. Alternatively you can get an omni/stereo mic for iOS and mess around with placement to get a passable sound. This is cheaper, and still good enough for a more vintage vibe

You need a powered usb-a dongle such as this one. Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_24NADbGWR8WW9 you will need to also plug in a lightning cable into the dongle to power it.

u/Stranger-Sun · 1 pointr/synthesizers

So what iOS device do you have? The hardware you need is a bit different if you have a usb C or lightning connector device. If it's one of the newer devices that use usb C, then I think you can plug directly from the PC/Mac to the iOS device, though I always use a powered usb hub so that I can connect various other instruments and devices.

If it's a lightning device, then you will need the apple camera connection kit or one of the third party versions. I have one that allows for USB and power so that I don't have to choose between connecting to a device or powering my iOS device. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Lightning-USB3-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=lightning+camera+and+power&qid=1566220031&s=gateway&sr=8-2

Check out Jakob Haq's channel on YouTube. He covers a lot of this ground very well.

I've used this USB to Lightning adapter. Works great! $30

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Lightning-USB3-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/

If your iPad is one of the new ones with USB-C, it's an even cheaper adapter. $7 for a pair.

https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Aluminum-Compatible-Chromebook-Pixelbook/dp/B07BK2XL2F/

For two people, you'll need an interface to control two XLR mics. The Behringer UMC202HD is probably your best bet for about $100. This would plug into one of the USB adapters above.

https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-PHORIA-UMC202HD-Interface-Structure/dp/B079YBLNSX/

Your already have a Q2U. Grab another one for your other host.

I have the 204HD. What I like about it better than the 202HD is the ability to monitor in mono. The 202 will play one mic in your left ear, and the other mic in your right ear while monitoring. I find that annoying. The 204 can play both mics in both ears. The 204 is about $30 more than the 202.

You'll probably need to plug in the phone's Lighting power cable while using the Behringer. I'm not sure if the phone alone can power the interface without the AC adapter.
