Super easy.

My advice:

  1. Use only Rothco 550 cord, many other brands are junk, the Rothco stuff is the real deal, both in its ability to actually hold 550lbs, and in the fact that its softer feeling than the cheap stuff.
  2. Get some cheap quick disconnects for the clasp, but choose them well, this particular brand is VERY strong: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003R0RTEA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
  3. Learn how to tie the Cobra weave, it gives you the most cord-feet per inch of bracelet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbTrVcBzzGY

There you go, now you have everything you need.

I made bracelets, keychains, zipper pulls....hell I still have many bracelets in my stock because I made more than I was able to sell.

Warning: You may blister your hands doing this. I recommend you take it easy at first and don't try to make 10 in a day or your hands will hate you.

I think the part you are looking for is normally called a "buckle and slider". I don't know if you are missing the buckle end, or the slider, but they are usually sold in pairs. If you measure the size of your straps you should be able to figure it out. Maybe half inch? http://www.amazon.com/50-Side-Release-Plastic-Buckles/dp/B003R0RTEA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hg_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0CKMEGYHKDGMP4PQ7J4S

I think the only difference between the normal ones and the ones you might find on a helmet is that the helmet ones are shaped so as to have no protuberances or other things that might irritate your chin. So, if you go with a generic one you may have to modify it a little with some foam or some sugru or something.

I ordered these from Amazon, and though they might be shitty chinese made clips, they seem to be pretty sturdy and hold up well. I kinda wish I could find metal clips like that though. I feel like a good crack on a rock would bust ANY plastic one, no matter where it's made
