Art boxes are usually around 3 or 4 inches. In my own experience, I haven't enjoyed things under the bed: either it just spread the clutter to under the bed, or if the things in it actually brought me joy, under the bed was the least convenient place for them. I use art boxes with holes cut on the back on top of dressers to hide networking equipment and personal electronics/chargers. As such, I matched the box to the dresser. Underneath, I might go with clear so it would be easier to tell what's in there with multiple boxes.

I have the 12"x12" when I go see family. I also picked up a 6"x6" to take on an international trip. With smart planning I can fit 6 or 7 games in. The smaller box is pretty much just card games but I can fit a small board or two in the bigger one.
I use a plastic case made for scrapbooking like this taking board and components out of the box and can get 3-4 full size games and still have room for smaller games like diamonds.

For the Rules, Scenario books, and boards I use one of these
For the mobs, dice and tokens I use 2 of these
For the heroes, pets and angels I use 2 of these Note: You will need to contact them for more dividers. The box only comes with 1/2 the number to make all the compartments.
Finally, I store everything in one of these
This way I can store the boxes someplace else and not worry about them getting damaged. All and all a pretty good set up for AQ and Masmorra.
