This one is a pretty good deal right now (Although in some triple A games, if you crank up the AA 3gb may not be sufficient, but otherwise at 1080p it should do decent).

u/KnightlyVR · 4 pointsr/oculus

Original price was $1,249.00. That's $349.01 off (28% savings).

I must say this is the best deal for a VR ready laptop that I've seen. And I got a $40 Amazon credit for getting approved on an Amazon credit card (which I didn't use) which brought my total to only $945 with 2 day Prime shipping. That's a total of $400 savings for me.

It all depends on how soon you need it.

The 1050 hasn't been announced for laptops yet let alone a release date so it could be a couple of months before we see it. If you need need laptop ASAP that's not an option.

OTOH, Nvidia just started releasing 3Gb models of the 1060 laptops which should be quite the power houses.

You can find the bran new ASUS FX502VM for only $899! That's going to be so much more powerful than the 960m and almost the same price.

Sorry to say this, but your friend is either not knowledgeable about your budget, or laptops, or was just being mean, 10XX GPU series is very new and way over your budget, the lowest one currently available (which is a great sale and price) is at 899 you can check it here

I'm actually trying to sell a 10 series gaming laptop for $950. the model is Asus FX502vm-AH51

https://www.amazon.com/FX502VM-Gaming-Laptop-NVIDIA-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01LXO0PO2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505586180&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+fx502vm-ah51

I also upgraded it with a 500gb samsung evo 850 (~$170)

I bought it two months ago for college, but I'm finding the size and weight to be inconvenient (15.6", 5lbs). Cosmetically the laptop is flawless save for a little scratch on the lid. I would consider selling it without the SSD for $800.

The M375 Radeon graphics is capable of some light gaming (LoL, CS..etc) so your M365X is probably on par if not slower. For 880 euros? I think you could get a far better deal. Try to look for notebooks that have GTX 960m or newer. 970m, or gtx 1060 would be ideal for portable gaming. and there are many options available for that price range. I strongly advise you to go for gtx 1060. they are desktop chips.

and that 1GB of M365X isnt gonna help but bottleneck you.

The HP EliteBook 850 G3 is a nice laptop but it has no dedicated graphics.

So if you're looking for something nice for gaming and portable for around 800 euros. here is a list that will hopefully help you.

Well, anything with GTX 1060. Seems like some are available for $1000 right now.

No SSD on this one though https://www.amazon.com/FX502VM-Gaming-Laptop-NVIDIA-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01LXO0PO2/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480279842&sr=1-3

u/Orangematz · 3 pointsr/laptopama

No. Not for $1000. For an extra $100 you can get something with a GTX 1060.
Better selling price would be around $675 since the 770M is overall pretty close to a 960M. New 960M machine will cost you around $650-699 right now. Priced the machine a little higher than $650 for the build quality. They might get away with selling it for $699 if it is in seriously good condition and has an SSD.

One more point. If the GE62 from Newegg comes back in stock, that is a 970M machine for $850. Or you really wanted a good value, this is good too, bit for $100 more you can get a 1060 machine with an i7 and IPS display.

The Asus FX502VM-AH51 is the cheapest I know of.

Why did you buy a 965m 6 mos ago ?

I personally would rather have a better gpu than better memory as that can be upgraded.

I think people just don't know much about mobile GPUs sometimes. Here's a quick hierarchy or mobile GPUs right now.

  1. 1080
  2. 1070
  3. 980(mobile)/1060
  4. 980m
  5. 970m/1050
  6. 960m/AMD 7970?

I think this infographic could be really helpful for you in finding what you can get in each price range.

For specific suggestions, I bought the ASUS FX502vm this year for my freshman year of college. I play LOL and PUBG also and was worried about the aesthetics at college also. Its just a basic black laptop that you can turn the backlit keyboard off if you are really looking for a professional look. For gaming, this laptop runs very smoothly on both games and I haven't had any compaints about performance. It is a little over your price range. If you want a cheaper laptop that looks a little more like a gaming laptop, the Acer Helios 300 is a great choice but does have that "gamer" look you are trying to avoid.

As someone said, ONLY pick a laptop if you are moving. You can´t game on-the-go anyways cause these laptops are still heavy, get hot, and don´t have much battery. Desktop is always a better choice money-wise as well.

I, personally, have bought a laptop as well cause I need to move every 1-2 years+travel a lot. If it wasnt for that, I´d go desktop any day of the week.

With that being said, here are some choices that will prob last you a while and be a huge improvement. NVDIA´s new cards (the one with 10xx) perform close to desktop-level whereas the old ones (9xx) tend to perform much worse. My advice would be to spend the extra $200-300 bucks and get one with 1060. You´ll thank yourself later.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6X2Z4K/ref=twister_B01MCTXBEC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

These seem allright. Last 2 have an SSD where you can put your operating system on, which makes it much faster (also loads games faster if you chose to save them there).

If you need to stick to 1000$, that´s allright. Look at these:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE62-Apache-Pro-254-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01FG9XS4E/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478725092&sr=1-1&keywords=gaming+laptop+970m

I´ve just picked these ones quickly. They seem allright, but don´t take that as a guarantee and do your own research.
Generally, do not overpay. There are laptops out there on amazon with the old graphic cards for 2000+, while you should be able to get a high-end one for that kind of money.

Note: I probably wouldnt go with Dell, it´s the cheapest one, but it lacks RAM and the 960m is quite slow compared to the others. Just wanted to put it out there because of its price as a comparison

What kind of games do you want to play, OP? And at what settings? How much fps?

u/Lorben · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you're just looking for something to play BF2 and Counterstrike something like this laptop would work just fine. Kind of overkill, really. It would struggle with something like The Witcher 3, getting around 30FPS at 720p medium settings.

If you want to be able to play current games as well, unfortunately you should have asked yesterday. This laptop was on sale for $900. There might be something worthwhile on Cyber Monday though.

u/The---Technician · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

This ASUS FX502VM-AH51 laptop would do a fantastic job for you and is only for $1,249. IT has a powerful i5 quad core 6th gen processor, massive 16 GB RAM, a powerful GTX 1060 dedicated graphics card and a nice 1TB 7200RPM HDD for storage. This laptop also has a very nice build quality, great keyboard, good cooling etc. It will run those games you mentioned and even far more demanding games on their highest settings.

u/Lev_Astov · 2 pointsr/KillYourConsole

I'm sorry, but $500 is a pretty hard limit to deal with for any gaming laptop. Laptops in general tend to be way more expensive for the power you get due to things like miniaturization, thermal management, built in screen, charging systems, and battery regulation systems, etc. A touchscreen will easily add ~$100 as well.

If you must, however, something like this is probably your best bet and should play most games today nicely at at least low settings:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-GE62-Apache-Pro-004-15-6-i7-6700HQ-2-60-GHz-16GB-1TB-256GB-GTX-960M-W10-/282275541250

You really don't want any graphics card worse than a 960M right now, but if you must, try something like this with a 950M:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315423

Integrated graphics are getting better but are still terrible for gaming and can't hold a candle to a 360/PS3.

Something like this might be able to play games from 2014 at low settings:
https://smile.amazon.com/Newest-Acer-Aspire-WiFi-AC-Windows/dp/B01IOOBX3G/

FYI, this is an incredible tool for comparing laptop graphics cards and seeing which games can run on what graphics:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html

If you could splurge, this is actually amazing for the price and I've seen it even lower before Thanksgiving week. It'll play anything today at high settings, pretty much.
https://smile.amazon.com/FX502VM-Gaming-Laptop-NVIDIA-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01LXO0PO2/

Actually it seems to have sold out over the weekend... Most laptops with a 1060 graphics card sell for $1200 or more.

u/twovectors · 2 pointsr/laptopgaming

The top spec you can get for c$1000 is a 1060

The 1050ti is not really much faster than your 970m, so not worth it.

Some suggestions:

Acer Helios -
Review

MSI GP62 - Review

Asus FX 502 - Review

However I note that the screens on these models tend to be disappointing. I would consider that if you only have $1000 to spend and your laptop is still working, I would keep it for a bit longer, it is not really that out of date and the upgrade from a 970m to 1060 is not that large, and you would have compromise on other things to get that anyway.

u/Johnnyallstar · 2 pointsr/gaming

Unless you need real CPU horsepower for video/3d rendering, you can get by with an i5. If your major needs the aforementioned, you might want to bump up to an i7.

As for a gpu, I think a GTX 940 is the absolute bottom, while a 1050 or 1050ti is the real target, because they are very good for the price point. Make sure you have at least 8 GB of RAM. 4 isn't enough for modern gaming.

Also, most gaming laptops at this price point will be 15.6". If you want a 17.1" you will probably have to pony up a bit more, though you lose some portability. Up to you.

Also, some gaming rigs at that price point need to have an additional storage hard drive bought, else you'll be gimped to only 256GB of space. I'll give you a few examples of decent laptops, and note if it needs anything. You should look around, though. Examine options.

ASUS FX502VM Is a good laptop at the price point. Has a GREAT gpu for gaming, but no SSD, so it might boot up a few seconds slower than one with an SSD. It's big brother costs $100 more, has an SSD, and an i7 if you really want irresponsible power. Probably gets pretty hot under gaming load.

MSI GP62MVR248 Probably this price for clearing out, but has an i7, GTX 1060, and plenty of horsepower for anything you need.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 A good option at a lower price point than the previous two I mentioned.

Lenovo y40-80 A little cheaper, and uses a radeon gpu instead of nvidia, but still a good gpu. I'm not the biggest radeon guy, but it's not bad.

u/noudaniel · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

https://www.amazon.com/FX502VM-Gaming-Laptop-NVIDIA-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01LXO0PO2

Spend 100 more and get this. i5-6300HQ and GTX 1060

At your price range, you would be stuck with GTX 960M which far far weaker.

u/icebox56 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I have spent the last several days extensively researching gaming laptops in the $800-$1200 range. These are the top two that I've found during that (thanks mostly to this subreddit):

MSI GP62

ASUS FX502VM

The two major differences are that the MSI has an i7 as opposed to the ASUS i5 processor, and the MSI also has a 256GB SSD in addition to the 1TB HDD.

u/Michiganders · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

With your budget, your best value computer would be this Acer Aspire VX 15 for $900. It has a quad core i5-7500HQ processor, 16gb of ram,a 256gb SSD, and a very powerful GTX 1050 TI dGPU which will play Overwatch easily on high at 67.1 FPS. The display is a 15.6" 1080p IPS display, weighing 5.5 lbs, with a 6 hr advertised battery life.

Another option to consider if you wanted to sacrifice the SSD for a 1TB HDD, Asus FX502VM for $870 which has a worse display, but a gtx 1060 instead.

A third option would be this configuration of the Acer Aspire VX 15 for $800 with a GTX 1050 with 8GB of ram instead of the 16GB in the first model.

All of these options will play overwatch with your desired benchmarks.

regarding the Dell, the i7 HQ is way too lopsided toward processing power for most tasks, it only really is decent with actual high end cards, but yeah, it is severely overpriced, but it is the only "ultrabook" that i could find that could be used to play games reasonably, that's why i mention it, some people really cant deal with over 4 lbs, which is everything else on that list.

you didn't respond to the HP laptop at all

I will give you another deal anyways, i found a great deal on a 1060 Laptop that blows the others away in value, but you probably wrongly think that the processor is a huge choke, also, you should really define between 6gb 1060 and 3gb 1060, the performance difference is substantial.

Thanks for the recommendation, that looks really nice. How do you feel it compares to this ASUS? It has a GTX 1060 and also has a sleek look, but has a 6th generation Intel i5-6300HQ 2.3 GHz Processor. My understanding is GPU over CPU.

I will recommend an ASUS FX502VM. It has a solid quadcore i5 processor, 16GB of RAM and suprisingly a full desktop GTX 1060 gpu with it. You will have no trouble running modern games in 1080p on this badboy

u/Novenari · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Hm I don't know if there's any outside bundles beyond the 10% discount but I think you could get a much more potent laptop all around for less than the price there. Newegg and Amazon have had good deals and will likely continue to do so until Cyber Monday.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXO0PO2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Either version of the above is a good deal right now, don't know how long the sale is gonna last. A 960m may not max it out at 60 fps constantly but should be reasonable. A 1060 mobile version is practically the desktop variant, and should crush the game.

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE72VR-Apache-Pro-024-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01IS33QWY/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480139416&sr=1-5&keywords=msi%2Blaptop%2Bgaming&th=1

Meanwhile for more there's this MSI. A 1060 with the processors listed should be absolutely fine to max it, and out of all the games that benefit from being installed on the SSD I recommend FF XIV for that. This is definitely more punch than the one you listed while being in that kind of price range or cheaper.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8S14H07846&cm_re=eluktronics-_-9SIA8S14H07846-_-Product

Finally there's this one on Newegg. A smaller and newer brand but if you look around most of the reviews are positive, and it's a much more plain laptop aesthetically which may please you. Also seemingly no bloatware; if you were willing to go for a newer brand without a history one of their laptops might be a good bet, the one I linked is just a starting point.

I know portability weight and stuff is probably a factor to you too, but if you look around trying to find something with the specs of the MSI or Eluktronics ones would be a good bet. If you have further questions or want clarification from me feel free to reply or PM with specifics you want to know. Happy shopping and good luck.

The Acer Aspire VX seems like a good computer in the price range. Apart from the GPU I like all the system specs. I was thinking I should probably go for a laptop with a 1050 ti or 1060 as I would have issues running recent games on high with the 1050. Do you know of any reasonably priced laptops(under $1000) with either of those GPUs?

My friend got this laptop on balck friday for $900. Unfortunately its not that cheap now, but if you don't mind buying used, its still about $900 from the amazon warehouse deals. A 1060 is going to be better than any of the 900 series laptop cards, and im pretty sure this laptop has hdmi + miniDP. Its pretty big width/length wise for a 15 inch, but is fairly thin. This is the other one I was considering getting. The 1050 isn't too bad, is it? I'm not going to be running crazy games or anything on it. And yea I know I've seen a lot of really nice laptops with better specs around this price range but none of them appear to be slim enough. Yesterday I tried putting my mom's laptop in my bag (Toshiba Satellite c55t) and it was a bit too thick if that gives you any idea. I can see TN panels being different though, one of my monitors looks much nicer than the other, I don't know very much about displays though and I've read about people replacing TN panels in their laptops with IPS ones but I don't know much regarding it.

I don't know much about European deals, but it might be worth considering a USA deal (see the stickied thread) and using a shipping company like shipito.com . Be aware that you would still have to pay VAT for importing goods, so it really eliminates most deals.

Consider looking at local shops, too. Amazon of Germany (since there isn't Amazon of Austria) doesn't really have good deals from what I've seen.

EDIT: This is probably worth importing - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXO0PO2/

lol canada nobody gives a fuck about canada and stop trying to apply the canadian dollar to anything anyone is talking about here

1060 is $300- $200 more than the 960m on reasonable value laptops. No 960m non premium (aka XPS etc) laptop should be more than $700.

No 1060 should be much more than 1000.

And they aren't, only the shit value ones.

As of now, there's 120Hz laptops, but none on your budget sadly.

That said, I found this on Amazon. Perhaps I can't post Amazon links here, but what you want to look for is Asus FX502VM. It's got i5-6300HQ (A quad core CPU, non HT though, 1080p TN panel, 8GB RAM and the piece-de-resistance, a freaking GTX 1060 3GB GPU).

Graphically it goes toe-to-toe with your desktop while using less power. The CPU though, is far less powerful than your desktop.

My employer told me we had a good discount but it turns out its only 2‰ which is some bullcrap. What's your opinion on this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXO0PO2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_cQjfzbGXKFQK2

Hi,
With your specs and budget there aren't many options: [search results](https://noteb.com/?search/search.php?advsearch=1&bdgminadv=1000&bdgmaxadv=1300&exchadv=USD&launchdatemin=2014&launchdatemax=2017&nrcoresmin=2&nrcoresmax=4&cputdpmin=2&cputdpmax=91&cpufreqmin=0.9&cpufreqmax=4.2&cputechmin=14&cputechmax=28&gputype=1&gputype2[]=1&gputype2[]=2&gputype2[]=4&GPU_model_id[]=GeForce GTX 1060&gpumemmin=64&gpumemmax=16384&gpubusmin=64&gpubusmax=512&gpupowermin=16&gpupowermax=330&gpulaunchdatemin=2013&gpulaunchdatemax=2017&displaymin=15.4&displaymax=15.6&verresmin=720&verresmax=2160&capacitymin=0&capacitymax=4096&nrhdd=1&mdbslots=0&mdbwwan=1&rammin=2&rammax=64&freqmin=1333&freqmax=2800&batlifemin=1.4&batlifemax=20&acumcapmin=23&acumcapmax=116&weightmin=0.7&weightmax=2.5&thicmin=8.4&thicmax=25.1&widthmin=208&widthmax=569&depthmin=170&depthmax=339&webmin=0&webmax=5&wnetspeed=150&oddtype=Any&opsist[]=Windows 10 Home&opsist[]=Windows 10 Pro&yearsmin=1&yearsmax=5) .

I think the GL502VM is a good option, you can have it really cheap with 3GB vRAM: link or 6GB with better specs : link

Also the Acer Predator is a very good option (still haven't added it to our website yet): Acer Predator Helios 300

Consider Asus? I recently bought the i5 version of this on sale for $950. It runs great!

There are a few GTX 1060 laptops at that price point, such as the Predator Helios 300 or the ASUS FX502VM. However, to get the laptop so cheap they had to cut a lot of corners, the ASUS in particular seems to have a lot of defects going by the Amazon rating.

The Acer VX is not a bad choice, though the 256gb SSD will fill up really quickly. BF1 takes up 58gb on my drive and adding more games and Adobe applications will see a 256gb drive maxing out really quickly. The VX range does not allow you to add a second drive without ordering a cradle and the connectors from Acer and this means waiting for a kit to arrive.

You will have better luck looking at the ASUS FX502VM-AH51
It might have a Skylake CPU rather than the newer Kaby Lake i5, though they are fairly similar in performance. The biggest draw card of this laptop is its GTX 1060 GPU, this offers better performance than the GTX 1050. While this GTX 1060 only offers 3GB of video memory it will still handle any of the latest games with ease. You also get 16gb of RAM and a 1TB 7200rpm hard drive, though you can easily add a M.2 SSD and wipe the 1TB hard drive.

Mine is not an affiliate link unlike the other two replies and is an honest opinion of this laptop from a gamer and not to make a quick buck.

Thank you so much for your reply! Knowing which specs to consider is incredibly helpful because to be honest, it's all Greek to me.

Based on your comments, and the comments of ichbinjonny, can you please take a look at this model for me? (I hope it's alright to be asking feedback from both of you on the same model!)

Asus Gaming Option

I like what this model offers, based on the informational link ichbinjohnny sent in his post for the Asus Gaming Option, as it is meant to handle heavy use for gaming and video, and seems to have a good cooling system; again, I'm not very knowledgeable, but it did highlight these as key features.

From what I can tell, it has 16GB of RAM. It has an I5 processor; do you know how I might locate the same model, but with an I7 processor? I was also unable to find the information on the graphics card.

Do you think an MSI laptop would be better than the ASUS?

*Sorry for any confusion!

The i5 7500 runs at 3.8 GHz with 6M cache, while the i7 6700HQ runs at 3.5 GHz with 6M cache. The i5 definitely is more powerful for gaming. However, while I know the question was about VR, having an i7 with 4 cores 8 threads is useful for other computing tasks such as streaming or video editing, and there is a hefty price that goes with it. So again, it's a good value getting an i7 in a laptop for this price.

As far as Windows 10 for $10 on Ebay - yes you could do it. In clicking on your link, I'm seeing a lot for $30 and such. However I don't know how savvy OP is with the reseller market and I don't generally recommend something like this to new builders. If anything I would first recommend running Windows 10 unactivated until he had the money to buy an activation key. Either way, the fact that it is included in the laptop contributes to its value, and you can take it for its full price, because that's what you're getting - a new copy of windows.

I thought was able to find the laptop for $900 on amazon, but now I realize that is the i5 6300HQ version, which I would not recommend as much for $900. I'd much more highly recommend that one for $1050 as it's a better value.

In general, there are a lot of spots you can cut corners on a build to call it cheaper than buying a prebuilt or a laptop, and it definitely is normally. However, with the currently inflated RAM, SSD, and GPU pricing, it's not that much cheaper. And we don't really know what OP needs or already has. If he has a monitor, there's $100 off. If he wants to wait for some sales and knows a bit about PC building, he could save even more. But the thing is, if OP wants to order something, get it tomorrow, have it be portable, all-inclusive, and VR-Ready, the laptop he posted is perfectly acceptable, and not that much more expensive. And laptops are very convenient, let's not forget =)

I just picked up the Asus FX502VML for $867 "Used - very good" because it was the only 1060 laptop I could find under $1000. I guess it was a Black Friday deal that got a lot of returns because it was mistakenly advertised as having a 3.1 port. I also purchased a M.2 SSD to speed it up. I haven't received it yet, but there are plenty of reviews on the Amazon page.

Well mobile gtx 1060’s do not exist as it is soooo....

But I assume you are just ignorant to the fact that desktop graphics made their way into laptops recently so here’s a laptop with a 3gb 1060
