Black friday tends to be a time for crappy laptops to go from cheap to super cheap. I don't think you'll find any of the really good ones available for a serious discount.

If you like the ASUS ROG laptops, go for the ASUS ROG G751JT which has a great 17.3" 1920x1080 IPS display, the brand new Nvidia GTX 970M graphics, the best build quality around, and the best coolin o any gaming laptop on the market.

u/Orangematz · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

For $1200, the base model of the Alienware 15 wouldn't be a bad choice. It has a fast dual-core i5, dedicated 965m graphics, 1080p IPS display and overall very good battery life.

For $1500, I'd suggest the ROG. It has a fast quad-core i7, dedicated 970m, fantastic cooling and solid build quality.

For something a bit more portable and expensive, the Razer Blade would be cool. It has a dedicated 970m, very good build quality, a 1080p display, quad-core i7 and overall is a very solid option.

u/CyberJeeves · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The Asus ROG G751JT-CH71 would be a fine option. Here're the specs:

  • i7 quad core 4710HQ processor
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB HDD 7200RPM
  • 1920x1080 17.3” IPS screen
  • GTX 970M w/ 3GB DDR5 memory
  • 3-4 hours of battery life (estimated)
  • 0.9” thick / 8.4 pounds heavy

This machine uses the latest generation GTX 970M, which is a notable improvement over the 8-series chips. Perhaps even better, it's a rarity among 17.3" laptops, as it uses an IPS screen, which will provide excellent colors and wide viewing angles. Since it doesn't come standard with an SSD, and the upgraded model costs significantly more, you can just add a Samsung 840 EVO SSD yourself and save the difference. There is a second HDD bay.

How about this

u/Zerosa · 3 pointsr/CFBOffTopic

This seems to be my best bet.

u/BigBootyIsTheName · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

MSI thin and light

Cheaper and nearly same specs

ASUS big and bulky

u/SaneBRZ · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If weight isn't an issue take a look at the Asus ROG G751JT-CH71:

  • 17.3 inch, 1920x1080p IPS display
  • Intel i7-4710HQ + 16 GB of RAM
  • 1 TB HDD
  • Nvidia GTX 970M with 3 GB of GDDR5 RAM
  • Price: $1499

Otherwise I would go for a Sager NP8672, which packs a even more powerful GPU:

  • 17.3 inch, 1920x1080p display
  • Intel i7-4710HQ + 8 GB of RAM
  • 1 TB HDD
  • Nvidia GTX 980M with 4 GB of GDDR5 RAM
  • Price: $1550 (without OS)

I'm looking for a similar laptop with the same price as you. I came across the Asus ROG G751JT http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G751JT-CH71-17-3-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00NVV2B98/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414711980&sr=8-1&keywords=g751jt. It's got insane RAM of 16 GB. But the best part is it has a GTX 970M that blows away the older 800 cards performance wise so you'll be able to play most games on ultra settings. The only con I can think for you is the lack of SSD which you can buy separately. It's 1499 on Amazon right now. I'm waiting to see if there's some discount for black Friday (highly unlikely as it's a new model) before I buy it.

If you want to use it for a long time into the future, you need a newer 970m or 980m. The first one i can think of is a new Asus g751. Great value for an Asus (top level cooling/build and awesome warranty) It has variants with the 980m, but they may be out of your price range. If you need that boost in performance that a 980m offers, then look into Sager/Clevo resellers that ship to CAN.

$2200+ http://amzn.com/B00NWE9RPA that one is overkill,

this one would fit your needs for just $1400+ http://amzn.com/B00NVV2B98

u/TacoPie · 1 pointr/pcgaming

This one. (I wouldn't buy it from amazon right now, they used to have it listed for $1,499, and now its $1,700 from some third party)

I was looking around and the ASUS ROG laptops were about the only thing next to the razor blade that looked like they were built with quality in mind. Though it isn't as thin as a Blade, but I don't think you'll have any issues with performance as it touts a 970M.

u/chocolatecloud12 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

To be honest, I don't want to give up that sleek black look.

What I'm really worried about is the CPU, and the potential bottlenecking that might happen. Or am I just being paranoid?

I'm playing Final Fantasy 14 nowadays, with the same laptop I bought 2 years ago, and I usually get 40fps on the highest settings.

u/rev_me_bro · 1 pointr/fo4

This one works great on ultra settings.

Have a ASUS G751JT 17-Inch can give you specs later if your interested has windows 10 and its been great for me but Im looking into a custom micro atx build instead for my portable station. Looking for 850 shipped

u/sorator · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

That's the sort of thing I was looking at on my own already; I'd probably go with this instead, simply because I don't feel the need for an SSD. (I don't know tons about graphics cards, but I'm guessing it's not a huge downgrade?)

My only concern would be maintenance issues a few years down the line; I'd rather not run into the same issue that I did with my ROG G75VW and not be able to find parts for it. It's entirely possible I was just in a weird situation with that, though, and that it's not typical for Asus ROG.

u/ImBusPlsNo · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Ah, didn't see that it was a 980 gotcha. Okay the frugal person in me is telling me to go for this without the SSD and add my own if I decide I need it. Talk me out of it lol

u/NightWolf098 · 1 pointr/mildlyinfuriating

I may have mixed up the 4710HQ and 4800HQ (This one doesn't exist. Oops). It's still stupidly powerful for a laptop, pumping out as much power as a desktop FX-8320. But here are two ideas, right off Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G751JT-CH71-17-3-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00NVV2B98

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT70-DOMINATOR-2293-9S7-1763A2-2293-17-3-Inch/dp/B00O4ORQ3C/

If you're budget is stretched, check out 880M and 870M laptops on Amazon. Lenovo's Y50 is also a decent laptop to look at, it's a lot cheeper, but has an 860M.

Edit: If you want to get more opinions, you can ask /r/pcmasterrace for ideas from more people or the laptop expansion of /r/buildapc

u/RedBeardedT · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Yeah mate, not happening. Two desktops, yeah, definitely, a desktop AND a laptop for gaming, no go man. I would do the buy gaming laptop now built desktop next year thing. Here's a great one Just wait for a christmas sale and it'll fit your budget. Save up some cash for a desktop for next christmas.

u/JustVan · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thanks! There are so many choices! I've been looking more or less nonstop all night. I came across this one by Asus as well, and it's drawing my eye for some reason. I keep comparing all the numbers and things back and forth. I wish I really knew what everything meant. I mean, I'm not completely an idiot, but I can't easily compare and contrast some of these machines as well as I'd like, or always tell why one is superior to the other.

If you or anyone else reading this comment has the time/inclination, let me know what you think of that Asus, especially if compared to some of the other recs in this thread.

u/hodgeka · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thanks for the suggestion!

The np8651 definitely is one of my top options right now.

I'm also looking at an Asus Rog:

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G751JT-CH71-17-3-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00NVV2B98/ref=zg_bs_565108_29

The Asus is appealing to me because I have owned one before, and had great luck with it. Is there anything about the np8651 that would be more compelling to me than the asus?

I should have mentioned(and will edit my original post), that weight isn't really an issue, as I will mostly be using the laptop at home, and also screen size isn't an issue since I will mostly have it hooked up to my monitor.

u/Vertisce · 1 pointr/blackdesertonline

I run BDO on this laptop...

ASUS G751JT 17-Inch Gaming Laptop

It runs great. The laptop is fantastic as well. Great cooling for the card and processor in this beast!

u/zerofold · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Thats the one I am leaning towards. One issue that is holding me back is the processor. On some sites it is listed as an i7, but on others its a apple a4. Exact same product number. Do you know which one it actually has? And if one is better than the other?

In the product description at the top its an i7 but at the bottom in the product specs its an apple.

Goal: Build an upgrade to my current computer for under $800 primarily for gaming (Rust, WoW, OW, CSGO)..also for work (spreadsheets, writing, etc.).

Current computer: https://www.amazon.com/G751JT-17-Inch-Gaming-Laptop-model/dp/B00NVV2B98

If you don't want to click the link, here's a few specs:

  • CPU = 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
  • RAM = 16 GB DDR3
  • GPU = NVIDIA GTX 970M 3GB GDDR5

Since my gaming computer currently is a laptop it gets hot af, like 90 deg C while playing Rust

Problem: Can't afford what I want, not sure where to cut corners, mainly with GPU, CPU, and RAM. Crypto mining has totally effed up GPU prices.

Can anyone recommend what would be an upgrade? is the GTX 1060 enough with an i5 8400 or do I need a 1070 or 1080? Is 8GB RAM enough?

(Note: if this is too detailed a question for this thread just let me know and I'll start a new one)

Touch pad works fine, it's the right mouse button under the touch pad that does not work. I also just sold this on Amazon for 850. New price it's still 1300$, even on ebay/amazon the lowest price was 930$. To get the touchpad repaired, required me to pay shipping/return shipping. Almost 100$! To me, considering I've always used a mouse. It never bothered me.

It was the ASUS G751JT with the optional 256SSD Included. If 850$ is near new price, please link sources, here is mine..

https://www.amazon.com/G751JT-17-Inch-Gaming-Laptop-model/dp/B00NVV2B98

Please note, that one does not include the 256GB SSD. It was an optional feature when I purchased it.

Please, know what you are talking about before you come in here and start bad mouthing people.

ASUS ROG G751. It can't run The Sims?

u/cheesestrings76 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Here, this can be purchased for $1,100. If you don't mind parting with the $100 that you're under budget, i'd get 250 gb 850 EVO SSD. Supposedly it has a second drive bay so it'd be a super easy installation.

Absolutely no clue about international shipping rates etc. so apologies for the American ignorance. But if you can get this within the ballpark listed price. Also get an SSD in there and you should be good to go. Ive looked at a lot of laptops and this one is pretty good price / (performance + features)

I can't tell you about GTA V as I've been waiting for the price to drop some more, but modded Skyrim runs like a damn champ on my GTX 965m. I have a G751JL with an i7-4720HQ, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB HDD with a second hard drive slot, and a GTX 965m. I paid $1200 which I regret mostly because the GTX 970m, which is advertised as 65% more powerful than the 965m and at the time $1500, dropped down to $1200 (and my model to $1100) when the new G752s came out. But tech gets cheaper every day so I try not to get too riled up about it. So I'd recommend the G751 with the GTX 970m (not sure if this is the exact version I was looking at) if you got the $1200.

Now, it is a huge laptop thanks to the fans. Regular 17.3" bags won't fit it. I had to buy a $160 Everki Titan bag for 18.1" laptops which I love. As for the laptop itself, it's very fast (especially for an HDD), runs dead silent thanks to the fan, and never gets hot. I did accidentally leave it in my backpack twice running when I thought it was off (I'd have it in the backpack charging because I was afraid of my cats fucking with it) and it was fucking HOT. Like scolding burn your hand hot. But it still works, though I don't know how long of a life it has now. I definitely give it more care now.

I went with ASUS because my HP that I got in 2011 had 3 or 4 major issues over the past 4 years while my girlfriend's ASUS that she got also in 2011, had no major issues except a bad battery which can easily be replaced.

P.S. Just checked, my [G751JL with the GTX 965m]https://www.amazon.com/G751JL-17-Inch-Gaming-Laptop-model/dp/B015QZV9H6/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468932347&sr=1-1&keywords=g751+965m) is on Amazon now for only $1000.
