That's a shame about the CPU, but i'm not exactly buying an upgrade in the time it takes to snap my fingers, i'll upgrade my motherboard eventually.

What about the RAM, should I not really care about upgrading since all I plan on doing with my PC is gaming @ 1080p 60hz or would it just be something nice on the side?

Also suggestions on a better cpu? current motherboard is a z270-A

Looks like you have found what the issue could be.

If you can return the motherboard, looks into getting Asus Prime z270. It's in about the same price range as your previous motherboard, maybe a little bit more expensive. You'll need new RAM though, but it would be for the better.

Edit: I just remembered that you upgrade from i5-6600k so the motherboard was probably from the old system then. Go ahead and get Z270 board with DDR4. It'll do you justice plus you can overclock that 7700K to your heart content.

My personal favorite that I think would go with your build is the Z270F from asus. It's a higher end motherboard with a full feature set including RGB lights. If you want something less flashy (i.e. without lights), I'd go for the Z270-A or the Z270K. I like asus :)

Back again with more dumb questions, I've just been reading up a lot and researching to better understand different pc components and stuff.

  1. I'm asking this for the second time as I got mixed answers the first time I did. I'm pairing an i5-3470 with an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW. Will my CPU face bottleneck issues? I know the best way is to check with MSI Afterburner but I cannot access my PC now or before I make the purchase of a new CPU (I'm looking at the i7-7700k).
  2. I know Amazon reviews aren't the best way to learn about parts, but I'm looking to purchase this Asus Z270-A and the reviews mentioned TONS of issues (not compatible w/ the i7-7700k out of the box, defective, etc). Some terms I don't even understand! Should I be worried? I won't be able to find out if the board I purchased has a problem until I get back to my home country and build my PC.
  3. Can someone break down what speed affects when it comes to RAM (e.g. 1.6k mHz v 2.4k mHz, just throwing out numbers)? In general and for gaming. Very curious.

Thank you again in advance for the help!

I can't even get a signal on my monitors...I'm pretty upset
*edit do you have a i7-7700k though?

>If you mean the 7700 rather than the 7700K: the cheapest B250 motherboard that you can find from a not-shit manufacturer. There isn't much difference if you aren't using the features. If you mean 7700K, then the same, but Z270 instead.

Hmm yeah, I meant the 7700k... $300 on ebay is too good of a deal to pass up. And an extra $13 to get on thurs ain't so bad.

As for the Z270's, holy crap does it come in a lot of flavors. As for good manufacturers, some random article I clicked on (by toptengamer) seems to think the ASUS is a solid choice. There are some other options that are a bit cheaper, like these from MSI but I dunno, maybe you're getting more of something out of ASUS.

>However, there are significant differences between SATA and NVMe drives: the latter are significantly faster and significantly more expensive.

Current one is a 250gb SATA. Happy enough with it. Will probably stick with SATA for the time being. Thanks for the info.

If you are looking at the z170-a asus board that you linked, you might as well get the newer version (z270-a):

Any recommendations? Looking at these 2 -

ASUS

MSI

Is THIS the board you're talking about? If so, go for it. It looks pretty swood.

u/HeywoodJablowme · 1 pointr/buildapc

I see massive amounts of money being wasted.

$900 for solid state drives?
Buy one ssd and a couple TB Hdd for hundreds less.

32 gb ram?
16 gb would be more reasonable and probably still too much for a gaming rig.

You could get a great MB for around $150: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PRIME-Z270-LGA1151-Motherboard/dp/B01NGTYV2Q/ref=pd_sim_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01NGTYV2Q&pd_rd_r=BC1ASX7RTG2PANHCNZMZ&pd_rd_w=wPoSE&pd_rd_wg=wNsN8&psc=1&refRID=BC1ASX7RTG2PANHCNZMZ

Would THIS - THIS - and THIS work together?

The mobo is Z270 and the RAM says Z170... issue?

u/gnxrly · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ok so I've done some research and added the Asus Prime z270 and it seems to fit everything and for one of the lowest prices out of the z270 mobos, how does that sound ?

u/Robbbbbbbbb · 1 pointr/EtherMining

Have you read the wiki? Plenty of options listed: https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/wiki/hardware/mobo

I personally run the ASUS Prime Z270-P in all of my miners. It supports 6 GPUs natively, 8 with m.2 to PCI-e adapters, and 9 total with PCI-e port replicators.

Here is the table from the wiki.

Lastly, please ask these kinds of questions in the mega thread stickied on the front page. It helps to keep the sub uncluttered. Thanks!

Yeah, I figured that part out, but only after the mobo had bent pins anyway. I just ordered a new motherboard. My question is really regarding the health of the CPU being ran with bent pins on the socket.
