The common processor that gaming laptops use are i7-6700HQ's but it still is a kickers laptop if you got it for any discount

u/Dread- · 7 pointsr/ffxiv

https://www.amazon.com/Asus-GL702VM-DB71-17-3-Inch-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0W4R0

How about this one? the processor is a generation older but it has a GTX 1060, which is enough to run FFXIV in max.

u/TerminalShadow · 3 pointsr/laptops

If you can get this, then get it:
https://www.amazon.com/Asus-GL702VM-DB71-17-3-Inch-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0W4R0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479178362&sr=1-1&keywords=asus%2Bgl702vm&th=1

If this is too much out of your budget, then I would just wait for the Pascal-based GTX 1050ti (laptop) to release and replace the GTX 960m

u/Yagermeister · 3 pointsr/laptops

It's not bad. But! You can get it the cheapest through Amazon

Well with such usage the more VRAM you have the better and the faster your work will get done, and there is several options that come with just that right outside your budget, like The Asus ROG Strix GL702VM 7% off, NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB, Intel Core i7-6700HQ, 16GB DDR4, 1TB 7200RPM HDD( no SSD, but can be added which is recommended which might up the price a little more)

and The Eluktronics P650RP6 that has GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of VRAM 15.6” Full HD IPS screen (which is also a plus for your work( 512GB Pure SSD for faster booting and and overall performance, 16GB DDR4 RAM for great multi tasking, and an i7-6700HQ which is also wanted for your work.

or even this config of Eluktronics P650RP6 with smaller SSD(usefull if you already have an extra drive that you can install on it rather than paying more for the other config) and half the ram at 8 GB (still good enough ram for smooth multi tasking)

u/The---Technician · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

With that budget and based on the programs you will be running as well as the tasks such as gaming that you will be using this laptop to complete, I would recommend you get one with a quad core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM and of course, once of the newest graphics cards available. In your budget range, this Asus ROG Strix GL702VM-DB71 17.3-Inch laptop AND but a decent SSD later on.

u/Michiganders · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Assuming you're using it for gaming, you're overpaying quite a bit for a 960M.

For just $200 more you can get the new something like the 17.3 inch ASUS ROG with a much more powerful GTX 1060 graphics card. In fact the GTX 1060 is 250% more efficient than the 960M.

If you're trying to play graphic intensive games and can open your budget a bit, I would strongly recommend the ASUS rog over the Acer ASpire.

u/8ack_Space · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Got it at Microcenter; RAM is 16GB and it had no SSD by default but I had some spares at my house so it's been swapped out.

Model is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Asus-GL702VM-DB71-17-3-Inch-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0W4R0

Looks like it's down to $1300 for BF.

It's a pretty good gaming laptop that's portable since your gonna be bringing this to school. Has a 1060 so it should be pretty good for 1080p 60fps. I wanted to find a 1070 laptop but they were over 1500

u/SeniorFallRisk · 2 pointsr/laptopgaming

Well, I've used Asus before so I stand by their products. Also just bought a GL502 with 980m.

Gl702: Skylakex1060. Decently thin/light with just the right stuff. My previous Asus was the gtx 660m and these things are built damn good for the price.
https://www.amazon.com/Asus-GL702VM-DB71-17-3-Inch-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0W4R0
$1348.

GT72VR: Skylake x 1060. I'm not too keen on MSI but people on Reddit love emm. Seems like it might actually be at a better price point.
CUK MSI GT72VR Dominator Virtual Reality Laptop (i7-6700HQ, 12GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB, 17.3" Full HD, Windows 10) - 2016 VR Ready Gaming Notebook Computer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JMDH7LU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cyJJybMNM02JY
$1300.

Predator 17x: Skylakex1060. Acer's super fkin sweet laptop. Don't know much about them but damn do I love their lineup. About the same price point as the MSI.
Acer Predator 17 Gaming Laptop, 17.3 Full HD, Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GTX1060, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, G5-793-72AU https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZMFF0Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_lFJJybP0MJHRX
$1344

I didn't shop around for the best prices, you may get lucky on Craigslist or eBay for a second hand. Maybe you can find an openbox.

How are these?

I think your best bet will be something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B01KB0W4R0/ref=olp_tab_refurbished?ie=UTF8&condition=refurbished

Or if you want one thats a bit smaller:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B01KB0WJ1G/ref=olp_tab_all

Its referbished, but it should be basicaly the same as a new one, and the GTX 1060 in it will manage 1080p 60fps on max settings in modern fames, and should hold up pretty well for 2-3 years, or 3-4 if you're willing to play games at low. its battery life wont be great though, especialy the smaller model

u/Orangematz · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Something such as this should suffice if you're wanting something cheaper.

You may also be interested in this.

You don't need a 6700K for your usage. You can upgrade the RAM and such if you need.

Asus recently released a few laptops with the new GTX 10-series chips. The cheapest of the bunch comes with the new GTX 1060 chip and a 6th gen i7-6700HQ, but it's still quite expensive ($1229.00 for the 15.6" variant, and $1248.99 for the 17.3" variant). This laptop will definitely run BF1 perfecrly on ultra and it is no doubt a great bang for your buck.

If you don't want to spend that much, there is a slightly older version of the same laptop with the GTX 970M chip, which is still quite expensive, but it will also run BF1 perfectly.

u/Liudeius · 1 pointr/starcitizen

You can get a 1080p monitor for ~$100, a mouse and keyboard for less than $60, and Windows 10 for ~$100, so even with that, an equivalent PC will be cheaper.

The cheapest laptop I can find with a quick search which is probably SC-capable is a $1229 Asus with a GTX 1060. For that money with a self built PC you could get a 1070, a better processor, an SSD, and still have enough left for everything else.

The specs look good. Although I recommended MSI earlier, they do come with a lot of MSI bloatware and the flashy lights may not be for everyone. Plus your friend might not like only 15.6" screen.

You might look at ASUS ROG GL702. It is a bit cheaper than your MSI, but 17" screen and my last cheap ASUS laptop barely had any preinstalled crap.

u/CTRL_S_Before_Render · 1 pointr/oculus

Yes, currently on a laptop Asus RoG Strix.

The new build will be a desktop, the mobility was necessary for work.

u/thepangolin59 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Can you provide the craigslist link or not?

It sounds like a decent deal, although for about $1,300 you can get it brand new. Months of ownership turns me off. If someone had it a few days or even a few weeks and changed their mind thats one thing, but to wait till after return period and something came up that they dont want it anymore? ehhh..

The warranty registration may be a problem rather than a bonus - i believe some warranty options require the product to be registered within a certain time frame from date of receipt. If thats the case with asus, you may be more screwed than favored.

Okay thanks for all your help. With your information I found this laptop that seems like a good fit. Is there anything I should know about this laptop before I consider it my final choice

Forgive my ignorance in this but what site would you generally buy from?

You're best bet is to find a laptop running a GTX1060 that has either a i7 or i5 skylake (6th generation) cpu and about 16gb DDR4. That should future proof you for about 2-3 years. Big players in this market are MSI, ASUS, Alienware and Clevo/Sager.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IO9Y9MI/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B01IO9YBM6 about 100$ above your price point but meets all the suggested specifications.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KB0W4R0/ref=psdc_13896615011_t3_B01IO9Y9MI?th=1 $1400USD, but lacks a SSD for the OS meaning slower boot up and load times but does have a G-Sync display.

Hopefully one of the Sager/clevo gurus can fill you in on possible options from that manufacturer

u/-x-y- · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Maybe this?

17" screen, GTX 1060 6GB, Intel Core i7-6700HQ, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB HDD. In your budget.

u/filofil · -1 pointsr/ableton

If i were you, i would definetely buy this instead of Macbook Pro; https://www.amazon.com/GL502VS-DB71-Full%C2%ADHD-Gaming-i7%C2%AD6700HQ-Windows/dp/B01K1INYD0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479065516&sr=8-1&keywords=gtx1070+laptop

If you are not going to jerk off looking to touch bar, just please dont spend your money to overpriced Apple products.

If that 1650$ is too much for you, buy this instead; https://www.amazon.com/Asus-GL702VM-DB71-17-3-Inch-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0W4R0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479065516&sr=8-2&keywords=gtx1070+laptop .

These 2 is more powerfull than low/high priced Macbooks.
