I use an Amazon Basics USB3 extension cable with mine and have zero issues with clicks or pops.

In fact here's my whole chain

I'm pretty much doing the exact same thing as you!

Im upgrading from a FX8350/990FX/970GTX to a 7700k/Z270 as well.

I spent some time researching Z270 motherboards last night and eventually chose the ASUS Strix Z270G Gaming Motherboard as my mobo of choice.

It has all the bells and whistles you could ask for; M.2, lots of USB, Wifi/Blutooth, a nice HD audio setup with optical out that's isolated from the rest of the board, RGB lighting controls, and a nice GUI BIOS.

This Youtube video review on the Z270G is what really sold me though. ASUS's has an awesome software suite for overclocking if you plan on going that route.

Does anyone know if the 2.75 slots would fit on this mobo without running into an m.2 drive at the bottom?
