Tried my luck in r/monitors but to no avail, not sure which one to go with for a 4K monitor.

I have an XB1X but haven’t upgraded to a 4K Monitor yet.

I’ve found a few and would love some advice!

Basically just looking for a simple 4K 27-32” monitor, not too strict on all the other fancy stuff that jacks up the prices!

I have this one and love it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074PK4R2H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you want the best picture a TV is a better option but monitors tend to have better reaction time.

If your willing to spend more money on the chair you cant go wrong with the Ikea Markus. Gaming chairs tend to be generally less ergonomic than regular office chairs so you may want to keep that in mind. For the desk, Ikea is also a great choice with the Linnmon* as a great affordable choice. As for a 4k monitor I’d probably recommend this-

something like this is an affordable option:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-23-8-inch-Adjustment-Speakers-VH240a/dp/B072M34RQC/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=monitor+hd&qid=1557848666&s=gateway&sr=8-6

or this one if you want the higher resolution similar to the retina display:

https://www.amazon.com/VP28UQG-3840x2160-Adaptive-FreeSync-Monitor/dp/B074PK4R2H/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=monitor+4k&qid=1557848709&s=gateway&sr=8-6

Either one doesn't make a difference for normal use, in the end its nice just having a larger larger screen to watch videos and such.

Sadly r/monitors does not provide console gamers much love sometimes, but as I've now done the research to be at least a little knowledgeable I'll share what I know.

So the short answer to your question is what you're looking for does not exist in your price range. This is because what you're looking for is a 4k monitor with true HDR at 60 Hz. Those run in the $600-$800 USD range.

The good news is that if you're willing to make a few sacrifices then you may be able to find something.

A bit of knowledge for you, consoles wont output anything over 60Hz so getting a 144Hz monitor is useless. That saves you some money.

Sadly the monitors with "fake" HDR are out of our price range (I've been looking for three months for the same thing you're seeking). Those run $450-$500.

So were left with a 4k monitor running at 60 Hz. I'll link what I've found in our price range. That seem to be worth anything.

  1. ASUS VP28UQG 28 in monitor. Current Amazon price $329.99:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PK4R2H/?coliid=I2JFHR2Q0IYGDM&colid=257OK8USMTMG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

  2. LG 27UD58-B 27-Inch Monitor. Current Amazon price $297.94:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IRQAYPE/?coliid=I3RNZKMRJCXRLS&colid=257OK8USMTMG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The ASUS monitor is a TN monitor so the colors will not be as vibrant but the performance will be better which is what you're looking for in FPS games. The LG is an IPS monitor so it'll have the opposite.

I will be getting the ASUS. Having missed my opportunity earlier this week, I'm waiting to see if Monday brings the price down below the $300 USD price hold again.

I hope this information helps. If something I've said is wrong, hopefully someone will speak up and correct me, but from what I've found, it is accurate.

4K monitor on the low:

No, my question is why there are no monitor-ified versions of all the cheap 40" 4k TVs. You can buy a pretty decent panel from any number of manufacturers for ~$300. Hell, vizio sells one for $250. These are panels that you can get right now - and in some cases, have been able to get for years.

Some panels have issues that make them inherently less-than-ideal for PC use (BRG subpixels, poor up-close viewing angles, etc), but others just need a decent controller with low latency, high refresh, displayport, and adaptive sync to make a good (if not amazing) monitor.

If Asus can make and sell a 28" 4k 120hz 1ms freesync monitor for $300, the controller needed to drive that 28" panel can't be all that expensive. If LG can make and sell a 43" 4k IPS TV with RGB subpixels for $300, the panel itself can't be all that expensive. It seems insane that nobody has bothered to stick a good-but-cheap controller on a good-but-cheap ~40" panel. They could charge much higher margins simply because there is no competition in this space, and it would still be an excellent value.

It's being advertised as 1ms response time.

It looks to be a kin of the MG28UQ but without the speakers and all. Reviews say that there are quality control concerns with the MG28UQ that probably would occur with the VP28UQG I bet since I would bet they use the same display panel.

I'm also looking at a few different options and have come down to a few. Any feedback on these is much appreciated because it's been mainly solo research into new territory for me lol.

  1. LG 27UK850-W 27" 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity and FreeSync. This one is the most expensive of the three I've looked at. I'm mainly looking at it for the USB C port on the back because I'm going to be getting a new Macbook soon so it'd be good to be able to charge it right from there.

  2. BenQ 28 inch 4K HDR10 Monitor (EL2870U), UHD 3840x2160, FreeSync, 1ms Response Time, Eye-Care, Brightness Intelligence Plus, HDMI, DP, Built-in Speakers. This one is my favorite, but it is sold out nearly everywhere. This has had a lot of great reviews and is not at a killer price point.

  3. ASUS VP28UQG 28" 4K/UHD 3840x2160 1ms DP HDMI Adaptive Sync/FreeSync Eye Care Monitor. This is the fan favorite from most articles because of the price point, but I believe it doesn't have HDR.

Ultimately, you're going to have to figure out what's best for you and what you are most interested in, but those are the three I have my eyes on.

Also consider an external monitor. You can get a decent 4k display for $300: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PK4R2H/

Any TN panel gaming monitor will do, Freesync lowers input lag so you will want that enabled, though the range of the displays below are only 40-60Hz so really just 60fps multiplayer games will get the benefit but the major PvP titles are 60fps.

Idk if posting this is not allowed but here is the 4 k 1 ms monitor I purchased.

My only gripe is there are no display ports on the one Xbox. Any way around this?

Found two very quickly for you. Both have solid reviews and are roughly within budget.

This 27inch ASUS monitor is 1080p, 144hz and has a 1ms response time for $279.00. Granted it's a little higher than you wanted but it also comes down to $189 for a 24inch and I believe 40-75hz. 144hz would be great for next-gen too.

This ASUS one is currently $259.99, is 1080p, 144hz and 1ms response time, 24 inches. I have personally see this and it has some great colors. Currently have one in the house.

Both have exceptional reviews (4.4/5 stars with 1000+ reviews).

Like I said, look around and see what deals there are but you can't go wrong with these.

My 4K ASUS monitor is currently available for 299.00 on Amazon, too. 1ms response time and 60hz. I personally love it.

Possibly, but that GPU is literally 4x the price of a good 28" 4k ASUS 1ms monitor. Balance, peeps...
