I nominate PANIC! UNIX System Crash Dump Analysis --- SPARC assembly, live system patching with Adb, and kernel programming, in a book targeted for sysadmins. A staple of the bookshelves of security geeks from the mid-90's.

This observation of books having meaning outside their content, as "badges of honor", is an evil. We all know people who spent hundreds of dollars stacking their shelves with stuff they knew they'd never read, as if simply owning Atomic Transactions meant you knew how to write a quorum commit.

In fact, the bare word "consistency" is not very meaningful per se, without a bunch of words clarifying the context. A good hundred of pages in "Atomic Transactions" book is devoted to this very subject not without a reason.
