Audio Technica AD900s: I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I love listening to music. And, my word, these sound GOOD. I don't know if I'll ever need another pair of headphones.
Your first step should be to get off onboard sound. The two easiest routes here would either getting a dedicated sound card or a USB DAC/amp combo.
If you decide on upgrading your sound card, something like the Asus DG/DGX will do fine to start with; they'll clean up the sound nicely and will be good enough to drive an efficient set of headphones. Later when you upgrade your headphones, you can then upgrade to the ST/STX and get yourself a proper amp like the Matrix M-stage or 02. That would imo be the better option in the long run.
The USB DAC/amp combo like the Fiio E10 will be a better option if you plan on getting slightly harder to drive headphones from the get go, e.g. Senns, Beyer...
That leaves you with around $250-$300 for the headphones. For your uses(movies and rock), an open pair of headphones like the AD900 would be a great all rounder; great comfort and very efficient. Also have a look at the Beyer DT880, also a good choice within your budget. These would have a wide soundstage perfect for movies and be versatile enough for most music. An open set will generally sound more natural than a closed one.
If you really need closed, the Brainwavz HM5 would be a good choice and way under your budget, enough left over to get yourself a set of Grado SR80. Grados are known as the hardest rocking headphones around, with a fast energetic and upfront sound that goes great with rock/alternative/metal/anything fast paced.
As some others mentioned, the Beyer DT770 are a nice set but a bit too bassy for my liking. I much prefer the DT250-80, which have a great smooth midrange.

Probably not the best bet for classical. They are too bass oriented in my opinion.
What's your budget? For around $100 the Audio-Technica Ad700 are great. For $200ish I would look at the Audio-Technica Ad900. If you can spring for about $250 the AKG K702 is widely considered one of the best options by classical lovers. Plan on looking at an amp for the K702s to really let them stretch their legs.
If you want to spend more let us know. Classical gear can get real pricey, real fast.

I think the main question you need to answer is: Do you want open or closed headphones? If you want bass, closed will most likely be what you want but that's not always the case.

~$108 Audio Technica ATH-M50s are always recommended in your price range.

These are only a few options. I would check out the InnerFidelity wall of fame and the head-fi recommendations by price range. I used to have the skullcrushers as well and I know for a fact that every one of these headphones will sound unbelievably better.

Looking for a quality pair of headphones for mainly pc gaming but also for music. My budget is around $100-$150. Also, I prefer a slightly heavier/more pronounced bass on a pair of headphones. This is because I mainly listen to rap, rock, pop, and electronic music.
I am not sure whether I should go for open vs closed. I want to get a pair of open headphones, but I heard that sound leaks in and I do not want to hear background noise. I never used an open pair of headphones, so I could be over/underestimating how much noise leaks in and out of the headphones.
The two pairs of open headphones that I have been looking into are the Sennheiser 598 (I prefer the black special edition) and the Audio Technica AD900 / AD900X. Both of these are open headphones. Are there some good closed headphones that sound great at this price range?
In games, I want a little more immersion and less distortion. I feel that my Logitech G430s fail to do this and take a lot away from the game.
