Audio-Technica ANC7 Very favorable reviews on Amazon compared to Bose. Good if you want value.

If you want top of the line noise cancelling headphones where money is no object then get the Sennheiser PXC 450

Then look up guides on how to overclock your cpu, it gives it a boost in speed at the cost of higher temps/voltages.

If you like the Bose Quietcomforts, I invite you to try a sound comparison with these Audio-Technica noise-cancelling headphones Whenever I let one of my Bose-owning friends try them, they never want to give them back to me. They want to trade. And they're only about half the price of the Bose headphones.

if you're looking for a not too expensive noise reduction, have a look at the audio technica ATH-ANC7, they may not be perfect, but at least they're not as expensive as the bose

A bit pricey, but totally worth it. Passive + active noise cancelling. Detachable 3.5 mm cord. Got me through college.

I have these headphones. I lost the original cable and I can't find any 3.5mm cables that are slim enough to fit. This doesn't fit for example.

Which cable can I use?

I personally use the Sennheiser PC 350s and love them! They do not use noise-cancelling technology, but the cans seal off the outside world so completely that you will hear nothing else. Here is what other people said about them

Passive is simply blocking the sound by physical objects, active is what's in "noise canceling" headphones. So in other words all headphones are passive sound isolating to some level.

If you're looking for good isolation + portability, then I will suggest in the ear headphones. I suggest Sennheiser's IE series, I own the IE8s, but you can get the IE6 and 7 for under 200. If you prefer over the ear headphones, you can get some really good active noise canceling headphones like Audio-Technica's ANC7 for about 150 online, and they are by far the best noise canceling headphones that I've used(better than much more expensive brands and headphones), I work at an airport electronic store and we sell all kinds of noise canceling headphones. Plus with the anc7s you can attach the beats cord to, if you have one.
